Just you wait.... Things will get better once the fad dies out b things will go back to be more grounded and artsy. I suspect in the next ~10-15 years we'll go from things like Barbie, Nike Airs, and, yes, even the Kleenex movie, no matter how good it is, to much higher concept pieces focusing on more everyday items. I'm talking a rope movie, likely a comedy based on talking kitchen appliances, and the one I'm really excited about, Actors Camping Together. This can't come soon enough. I really hope they do a good job with casting a good group, they'll need good improv artists. But can you just imagine how awesome it will be to watch actors camp for a couple days!?
Theater today is at a low point, but my hope is keeping me alive.

@@GamingintheAM0801 I legit used to have a series of viewer discs when I was a kid. The only one I distinctly remember having was an episode of The Adam West "Batman" series, but not what it was about.
Here is how you do Viewmaster. A young boy finds a viewmaster that shows scenes from a parallel universe. In that parallel universe there is a girl that finds a viewmaster that connects to the boys universe. They find that they can add pictures and start communicating through the 2 universes. Either they fall in love or they have to prevent a tragedy that will affect both universes. Dependning on if you want a romantic comedy or an adventure movie. Hire me Mattell.

I like how every week I see new reports on how everything is bombing. It’s just funny. Movie goers are in their grubby era or something and don’t want to leave home
It doesn't help if the movies are either generic, something we've all seen before, or they just generally look the same because of CGI. Last point kinda encapsulates the first 2, but I digress. I wanted to go see the Flash and Indiana Jones, but after seeing Spider-verse and Transformers, I'm just going to wait on Openheimer. Don't want to waste my money on something I'm not going to enjoy.

It’s because most people can’t afford to go to the movies every week anymore, so they are going to pick and choose, when something worth it comes along like Spiderverse people will go, but when you have movies like Dial of Destiny and the best reviews are like “well it’s kinda better than the one everyone agrees is the worst.” Sorry but I’m not gonna spend that money and time to actually go see it.

Straight up, I listen to you guys while I go to sleep. If i know a movie is out it's 80% of the time because of you.
The only way Hot Wheels works as a movie is if they just make a Fast and Furious movie with Hot Wheels tracks from the 90s. Cars doing loops and jumps over volcanoes and hairpin turns on orange plastic tracks that are barely strong enough to hold the car? I'm in theaters opening day.
The obvious thing to do with all those Mattel movies is to make all the various things magical, such as James’ Viewmaster idea or magic Uno cards, future-predicting Magic 8 Ball (like the Nic Cage movie Next) etc etc… then in the final film to be released you suddenly reveal that all these movies take place in the same universe. The Mattel Cinematic Universe, or _MCU_ if you will.
This would then lead to a huge team up movie where each films’ respective kids/protagonists would unite along with their magical Mattel product to fight a villain (maybe the Bratz dolls reimagined as aliens?).

The box office for these films isn't the problem, it's the budgets.

Yup! Raiders of the Lost Ark cost $20 million, adjusted for inflation that would be $70 million today. Indy 5 cost $300 million. If they had made Indy 5 for less than $100 million it would have made money.
Too many $200-300 million movies are being made.
@@Michael_ORourke I'm glad you explained that. When talking about older movies, we need to adjust for inflation their budgets. I just looked up ROTJ's budget which is 32. 1 million and adjusted using a calculator I found. It would be around the 80mil range in today money compared to Rise of Skywalker which 416 million.
There isnt really a way to do something like the Flash for any cheaper given the effects it needs. Indy5 makes no sense though. But even if Flash was budgeted at 100 million it would be underperforming.

I know it’s juvenile but I enjoy watching Disney a multi million entertainment giant get humbled, Just for a little, it sucks because I know the underpaid staff are going to be the ones who pay.

It’s funny you bring up that Rick and Morty episode because that encompasses what I DO NOT like about multiverse stories, because to me even if you “replace” your people with copies, I’m still sad for the ones who don’t get saved. To me that episode is proof that Morty is more like Rick than either acknowledges. The fact that he doesn’t insist on Rick fixing things for the universe they left is proof he is just as selfish.
I think it's generous to expect that someone just made an oopsie with the Barbie Map, I'd wager it was more of a deliberate addition since Vietnam and Phillipines populations combined only amount to 1/7th of China's population. They probably rather lose these markets than risk losing China.

In season 4 of Atlanta there’s an episode where a scene opens with Paper Boi in the recording studio with a bunch of guys smoking and drinking and playing cards. He starts arguing with the guy he’s playing cards with and the reveal is they’re playing Uno.
I burst out laughing when I watched it, and apparently someone else saw that and thought it was a good idea for a movie

The problem with the multi verse in movies is actors. Whatever rules are put into effect will have to cater to having people that require large paychecks playing these roles. Let's look at No Way Home for example. There are 3 Peter Parker's all with different faces. That isn't how Marvel's multi verse works, but actors were catered to and now everyone expects different versions of the same chapter to have a different face. This is retroactive continuity being rebranded as plot progression even though when those movies were made it was not a part of any ongoing narrative.
They could make some kind of VR or AR tech for view master. And get contracts from major brands for the "pictures"

it is ok. lsd does wonders for this sort of thing if your selfconscious about your episode length. the episode can still be of very high quality and even better than the longer episodes. but nothing beats a good long episode that is just amazing from beginning to end

When Maso says he thinks there are only 52 universes currently in DC, this gives me an idea for fixing the multiverse problem. What if you have only 52, but legendary characters might just not exist in the others. Batman exists in his own universe, Superman and Wonder Woman exist in another, and when the Justice League needs to get together it's a huge event since characters need to cross universes
I have also thought about an idea like this for DC's team up movies. They could just make standalone movies like The Batman, and then when it's time for a team up movie, they just yank people from any DC movie or series they need for the team up, and they lean into the background set up from each of their original universes for the character building moments. Then when they go back home at the end, the standalone movie series that were involved can choose whether they want to have their characters remember the team up or if they want to ignore it and move forward with their planned movies like The Batman 2 and 3 or whatever.

I think the discourse about age gaps is important. There will always be humans who want to control and manipulate their partner (usually it’s subconscious) and they will always gravitate to dating younger people, because of the inherent power imbalance that comes with it. It’s never going to go away, it’s not a societal issue, but a human failing made acceptable by society. We need to actively work against it by having these conversations.

If you don’t want to acknowledge that, you’re just being naïve. That’s reality, sorry you don’t like it. Also, we still need to talk about abusive relationships, because we need to protect victims from it. If it makes you uncomfortable to talk about victims of abuse, I really don’t care, it’s not about your comfort, it’s about protecting victims. Sure there are people who are in a healthy relationship with older people, but we also have to talk about the negative ones. This is a stupid argument.

When talking about New Mjtants, you should ask "why was it a mind bear?" A lot of the problems with movies that have good source material being bad is that we have WAY too many writers in Hollywood that think they are better writers than the writers that wrote timeless stories. Hardly any of the story from the actual comic is in the movie, but they still try to shoe horn the plot after it has gone through a rewrite from 17 different people.
