Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, it’s time to watch some Cartoon Network Christmas Specials. In this video, I recap and rank (nearly) every CN Christmas Special made from 1999-2000 on my merry Ranking Tree, and then pick one special to be the shining star at the top of the tree. Is Olive the other reindeer an enemy of the working class? Is Tweety Bird dead? Is Grandpa going to sue the pants off of Santa? Let’s find out together!

When Adventure Time was originally airing, finding out who Ice King really was literally Earth-shattering. Largely because up until that point, the show was mostly just a silly, little romp though a weird but fun world. Seeing Ice King as his true, human self, suddenly gave the show consequences and depth.
It was THE shift in the show that changed it into what it is today
I went from hating IK to relating to Simon so hard he’s literally one of my favourite characters ever. I also have DID and relate to the whole alter ego thing and coming back to a body you don’t know in an unfamiliar place not knowing how long it’s been since you where conscious, him and Betty where heartbreakingly real too. Ice King went from my least favourite character and an antisemetic trope to one of the most deep and powerful characters ever to me.

Heck I’m still in the northern hemisphere but I live in Florida. It was 74 degrees Fahrenheit outside on Christmas I’ve never had a white Christmas and probably never will here and I remember sometimes feeling left out when I would see all the Christmas specials and all of them had snow in them and I couldn’t get snow so I’m happy that there’s representation out there that

I had an elementary school PE teacher who was obsessed with cup stacking. He made us do it almost every class we got instead of doing…actual PE things. He started a club with TRY OUTS (where only the best cup stackers could join) and everything. I assumed that cup stacking was a very niche thing he specifically was obsessed with, not an actual trend.
He was fired a few years later (after I had left the school) due to the fact that he was not certified to teach.

I had a somewhat similar thing in elementary school where a lot of our PE classes would just be cup stacking. It was always so disappointing to walk to class and just see those wretched colorful cups waiting, instead of us doing literally anything else. No hyper obsessed teacherwith a club though hahaha

I showed my mom Jingle Jingle Jangle this year to share my love of Ed, Edd n Eddy. It’s not as good as the show’s Valentine’s Day special but it is really fun. The Kankers’ subplot is hilarious. I love the way they so casually go along with everything. “What is it?” “It’s a sign, stupid”

Yeah it wasn't till I got older that I got the Three Wise Kings reference, that whole Nativity shot at Rolf's shed perfectly tied everything together.
I can't believe the only episode I saw of Robotboy was the Christmas episode because for years I just remembered the double cheeked up subplot that never goes anywhere.
that frosty special is probably my favorite objectively bad cartoon special. as a kid i was so weirdly engrossed in the psuedo-footloose plotline and the kid whos mom wanted him to hit intruders with a can of corn (its not a vegetable, its a starch).

Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer is such a classic. i was 100% ready to be slightly offended by what Li had to say about it, but i ended up agreeing with basically her entire assessment. it's such an insane, campy movie and it's not good at all but is so fun
the chowder christmas special will always be top tier in my mind, because while i only know one lyric of “o christmas tree,” i know *two* lyrics of “o gingerbread house” from that episode, which means every time i try to sing that song, it auto fills with the chowder lyrics.

God this video was everything. You mentioning the commercials took me back and made me realize when it was December shows would go all out on the Christmas theme, it made you feel like you were a part of the festivities that just aren't there anymore. Man, I miss childhood.
I have to say that the Adventure Time holiday special is probably my favorite because...wow. I almost cried just watching this short recap of it, haha. But I understand how it doesn't have that same impact for everyone.
Also, the Class of 3000 special looks super good! Somehow I haven't seen this show before...I need to go watch it! :)

If this list had other christmas specials I gotta say the phineas and ferb christmas musical special is one of my favorites. The songs are good I liked the theme and the show is in general fairly good

It is so strange looking back now on these shows. So many of them were so ugly looking XD I was actually fearful of them as a kid. Yet now I'm begging for this type of creativity from shows. You truly don't know what you have until it's gone. Every show had such a drastically different look and feel to them that I truly appreciate now.
Fun fact, after watching the Foster's Home special, I myself pulled a similar trick ("praying" to Santa to give me a specific, innocuous present to prove he existed) and this was how I made myself an official unbeliever of Santa lmao

About Robotboy and Atomic Betty:
While the main villain of Robotboy is Japanese, the scientist who invented Robotboy, Professor Moshimo, is also Japanese and is one of the good guys. It kinds evens out...? though the yellow skin and broken English is pretty bad, and Kamikazi appears more often than Moshimo.
Also, Maximus from Atomic Betty is based on Ming the Merciless from Flash Gordon. He falls prey to quite a lot of orientalist and "yellow peril" tropes, and those carried onto Maximus. But Flash Gordon began in 1934 and Atomic Betty began in 2004, when society at large realized that racist stereotypes are bad, actually, so there's no excuse for Maximus.

Oh my god I’m so happy you made this video! Exactly what I wanted to see during the holiday weekend. I remember when I was a kid (I’m 27) Cartoon Network during Christmas was my absolute favorite. I would get up early just to watch all the holiday special marathons they would have. One of those that for some reason stuck with me till this day is “Cartoons networks Holiday Rush”. Every time I see the commercial for that i get such intense nostalgia.

I beg to differ; it's really easy to set a Christmas special in space. So many planets are cold iceballs, gas giants can have ice rings, all the ships can have their blinky Science Fiction Lights replaced with festive colors.... it should be almost impossible to fail at Christmas in Space!
It doesn’t specifically have a Christmas special but Transformers Animated aired on Cartoon Network back in the late 2000’s. It had 2 part episodes called Human Error where the Autobots are turned into humans. The only other holiday episode was Along Came a Spider and that is a Halloween episode. Most kids who grew up during the 2000’s and watched CN know what I’m talking about

hi li! i wanted to say thank you for your videos being such a source of joy for me this year. you put so much love and effort in, even if it's a topic i don't know anything about beforehand i always have fun watching. if you're ever taking ideas for video topics i think the 2005 reboot of the trollz franchise would be something that would be something you'd have fun with. it had dolls, a tv series, and a very memorable website and the character designs are all very strong and super 2000s. not a lot of people talk about it these days tho. anyway i look forward to seeing your videos in the new year. happy holidays and thanks again for all you do 💞
