Ryan, Channing and Fred are back for another Friday conversation heading into the wknd where the guys cover trending topics in sports from Draymond Green’s antics to Cam Newton’s comments, to Lebron criticism to NFL to parenting and get inside scoop on Channing's Improv comedy performance.
Before diving into the conversation...the guys want to know if Channing is ready as he prepares to try his hat in the comedy business with his first Improv show and he tests his material, shares his approach and plan for publicly telling his unfiltered stories, Fred and Ryan are excited for him and can't wait to use his "safety" phrase.
Turning to sports, Draymond Green’s indefinite suspension came as a surprise to nobody given his actions against the Suns, but Ryan has a unique perspective on if Draymond is “crazy” or not. He deserves punishment for his poor impulse control on the court, but will counseling help a man who has a clean record off of it?
One thing is for sure, Draymond was a game-changer for the Warriors’ championship teams, but the guys discuss whether or not Cam Newton’s game-manager comments regarding four of the NFL’s quarterbacks had truth to them. Beyond the words themselves, Ryan, Channing and Fred break down the backlash one of the game’s most dynamic players ever is receiving.
Some sports personalities played the game, others didn’t, but very few had the type of success that Cam had during his MVP-caliber seasons. So when Superman calls quarterbacks game-managers, why does he receive more negative feedback than other analysts?
On the topic of MVP’s, LeBron James’ in-season tournament victory with the Lakers had fans questioning his celebrations. The guys compare LeBron’s ecosystem within basketball to that of Jordan and Kobe, breaking down the difference in their careers and legacies.
A few weeks back Channing made some remarks about Giants quarterback Tommy Devito, and since then the Italian has been a baller for New York. Chan still thinks that he shouldn’t be living at home, but the guys talk about Tommy and his agent’s recent fame. Meanwhile, Shohei Ohtani’s record-breaking contract has taken over baseball news, but Fred and Channing disagree on whether or not deferring the bulk of the money was a smart business decision.
Fred shares his latest endeavor becoming a part-owner of the JAX USL soccer team as he talks about the importance of giving back to the Jacksonville community and his hopes for the team.Ryan wraps the conversation reflecting on his role as a dad, and the guys talk about how important it is for parents to show up for their kids. The Pivot hosts all have love for one another, but Chan’s new comedy performance “Uncensored” has a safe word that the guys have to drop as well.

I agree with RC (one hour mark), however, he left off one important part about parenting - apologizing. Even though we show up and may not be at our best, saying “I am sorry for . . .” is so powerful and liberating. Because they are individuals and their feelings are real. I was not brought up that way. All I got was the “it is what it is because you were not (insert food, shelter, clothes etc) without. It was not the best, but I did what I knew how to do”. As a mother of two beautiful adult daughters, I have learned to listen and hear the memory of their pain. Most of all, I can say “I was there AND I apologize for not having the presence of mind to recognize their pain in the moment”. I do that to free me and them from repeating the intergenerational shit. Those are very difficult conversations and creates work for all involved. Adulting is hard. However, the reward is immeasurable.
Ryan I just want to say kuddos to you for always being there in your children's lives because that's important whatever the case may be. Fred n Chan the same for you 2 as well, God bless all of you!!!

I’m not bragging just relating to RC about showing up for your child. I had my kids young. My first was at my high school graduation. Anyway I told my son one day. There’s some things now that I’m older I would do differently. My son looked at me and said he wouldn’t want me to change a thing. He said all a kid wants is to feel safe and love and I always felt that. I made it back to the house. Went straight to the bathroom, took a shower and cried.

As a proud Black woman, with a Journalism degree, current Educator, & soon to be Ph.D., graduate, when I listened to some of the insults, particularly by my own people of color, I was livid. Never attack the man! That’s what happened this week. We can akways disagree respectfully! This is why, as people of color, we will continue to go backwards. We often will hurt our own to try to make ourselves appear to look good. In all actually, you diminish your own character. Let’s be clear, if Cam where white, the comments would have never been an issue. Analysts, start sticking to the facts! Do your research! RC stood on FACTS, not feelings, and you should do the same! As a father, I was always there. The results of that are so gratifying as I look upon my grown up adult “children “ ! Definitely did it right.
This why i love this channel. Logical perspective.
Channing is 100% correct you put 2015 Cam Newton on those teams it would be insane . He never had anywhere near as much talent around him as Tua , Purdy, Dak. With Steve Smith he threw for 4,000yrs. If he did have their teams, he may have won that super low scoring Superbowl, when Payton Manning was literally the worst QB in the league, more interceptions than touchdowns. If you swap Peyton Manning to the Panthers and put Cam Newton with that Broncos team they still win the Superbowl and Panthers would not even make the playoffs , they would of had a losing record. Cam Newton lost 1 game in the 2015 regular season and League MVP . Cam Newton won a national championship coming out the SEC with subpar talent compared to alot of Power 5 teams. All the Qbs he named have teams that are absolutely loaded. Cam Newton is right.

Listening to y’all conversations, I’m thinking, they all have talents we loved. They are all winners, in their own rights. I loved and watched great basketball, down through the years.

RC you hit it on the head with regards to raising kids at least I can say I was there it is something that me as a 53yr old woman to a young adult son.
