You didn’t mention The LEGO Movie.
The lego movie not getting a best animated feature nomination has to be the biggest snub in oscar history
@@Ethan-zq7lv Exactly, the biggest snub in history, much bigger than the recent snubs for Barbie.
Fuck the Lego movie bro where is dawn of the planet of the apes?
You Capitalised LEGO correctly 😭
Damn, 2014 was a loaded year for movies holy shit
Kingsman: Secret Service also came out in 2014 and was a rather unique experience. I remember rewatching trailers to both John Wick and Kingsman countless times in anticipation.
Some real good action films this year!
Kingsman is to this day my favorite action comedy
The amazing spider man 2
Agree with you on interstellar - people often say its a basic favorite but it's just so good
egjackly
No simple people see like complexity but we people like to burst of brain to understand that complexity....not every actor , director are passionate about immersion under world you create. I want Nolan to work on space film but he said no...so I've to satisfy myself with this piece of Interstellar the real masterpiece....now don't compare with inception.
2014 is great, but in my opinion 1994 is the best year in film history. The Shawshank Redemption, Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction, The Lion King, Léon: The Professional, ETC.
Its nearly up there for me! León tooo
Wait till 2034
Let's hope 2024 might be good
Also…2004 had The Incredibles, Spiderman 2, Shrek 2, and Prisoner of Azkaban.
2024 is shaping up to be another solid year with Dune 2
Coincidence?
@@Luke_SkywaIkerI feel like 2024 has been pretty meh so far, only highlight was Dune. I’m not at all positive about the new Crow movie, and I haven’t really seen much about other movies coming out this year.
I got this feom reddit, but for reference, this is what 2014 produced:

Damn it was the best year for film
Mention fight club which changes according to your age ...means for teenagers it's diff. For adult it's different and for age it's diff ..but film never age.

You forgot some other awesome movies from 2014. Movies such as "HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2", "THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2", "TRANSFORMERS 4: AGE OF EXTINCTION", "X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST", "TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES", "THE LEGO MOVIE" and my personal favorite... "GODZILLA".
Definitely X-Men: Days of Future Past
He said good movies not blockbuster. The only good one you listed is lego movie
@@keaganterry6916 HTTYD2 is a lot better, the second is by far the best in the thrilogy and one of the three best animated movies, including Up and Wall E
@@sebastianwarmbrodt6725 no way you left out the spider verse and studio ghibli movies in the top 3
Bro sneaked in Spider-Man 😂
2014 movies were awesome. You got Godzilla who finally makes his proper entrance to Hollywood, Guardians of the galaxy, And a lot more.
me realizing how many of my favourite films came out that year, "dang it was a good year"
2014 was something special, 2019 also had some hints of that. But 2023 felt like it revived cinema with so many bangers and 2024 is shaping up to do the same
2019 was also a great year for movies.
Rise of Skywalker, Dark Phoenix… sure we did have Endgame.
@@wxo_5057those are only the blockbusters
we also had movies like Knives Out, Jojo Rabbit, Marriage Story, The Lighthouse, Uncut Gems, Midsommar, Portrait of a Lady on Fire, and Parasite
@wxo_5057 yeah endgame but also Joker, Once upon a time in Hollywood, knives out, Midsommar. Plus plenty of other bangers
@@wxo_5057If you only limit yourself to Blockbuster movies than I guess 2019 wouldn't be a good year for you.
Otherwise 2019 had the strongest Oscar line up in years.
We had films like Parasite, 1917, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Joker, Jojo Rabbit, Little Women, Ford v Ferrari, The Farewell and many more.
@@kingkiller5325 Man, I forgot about Joker! That movie is awesome, easily one of the best.
Maze runner is such a fun movie
1999 was a good year for films, even 2009 was pretty good.
i miss this era of movies, there were like 5 incredible years there. i think 2017 might’ve been even better - get out, blade runner 2049, call me by your name, florida project, 3 billboards, etc
I agree! 2017 was a great year too
2023 is also up there for me too
I do appreciate your honorable mentions.
just rewatched interstellar (for liike the 10th time lol) and yup, still my fav movie of all time (i convinced most of my little amount of friends to watch it and they all LOVED it!)
Love to hear! We gotta get all our friends to watch it haha
@@DavidVision528 ikr it's so good lol. I've just convinced another friend to watch it lmao
Good job on the video!
great video, can really feel your passion for film. also totally agree with you
Thank you 🙏
Nice video. 2014 was definitely a good year, but I would argue that 2013 was as good, if not better: Wolf of wall St, HER, Prisoners, Gravity, Inside Llewyn Davis, Snowpiercer, 12 Years a Slave, Under the Skin, Lock, Captain Philips, Dallas Buyers Club, Ida, Blue Jasmine, Lunchbox, Only Lovers Left Alive, Before Midnight, and some crowd favourites like Walter Mitty, About Time and The way way back.
Honestly, It's annoying that people say the 2010s was a bad decade for films. It was great!
We need that respect for the 2010’s! 😂
I truly believe that Birdman was the best movie of the decade and perhaps, the 2nd best was Whiplash. Truly shows what an incredible year it was.
I need to give it rewatch 💀
That last movie montage almost made me cry
That was truly the last year of good movies. There have been gems here and there, but otherwise nothing can match 2014
Awesome video man! Subbed
Thanks brother!
Great video man!
Appreciate it! 🙏
Honorable mention: Predestination
If you haven't watched it... You should.... Such a fantastic movie
I need to rewatch it, its been a minute
that twist 😭
I agree! Just watch the roster of the Best Picture Nominees of that year.
Maybe I'm biased too because it was my first year of college.
Great video
Great video! And the best thing is, some of these movies (or one of them at least) are gonna be re-released in theaters for their 10th anniversary this year. I'm definitely going to watch Interstellar for a 3rd time in a cinema. But this time hopefully in an IMAX.
Whiplash is my favorite film, period. I haven't realised how good 2014 actually was until watching this video, even tho I've watched all but Boyhood. Wow, amazing video!
Whiplash is just one word, Masterpiece!
*Western film history
good stuff man
Appreciate it!
unironically.... a great take on films over the years
Keep up, it's awesome
Appreciate it!
I personally found 2019 to be a better year.
While it was a little short on Great Bkockbusters. It over delivered in good drama/Genre films.
Just look at some of the films that came out in 2019.
Alita Battle Angel
How To Train Your Dragon 3
Endgame
Long Shot
John Wick 3
Booksmart
Godzilla King of Monsters
Rocketman
The Fairwell
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
The Peanut Butter Falcon
Ready or Not
Ad Astra
Joker
JoJo Rabbit
The Lighthouse
The Irishman
Marriage Story
Doctor Sleep
Honey Boy
Ford v Ferrari
Dark Waters
Knives Out
Uncut Gems
Little Women
1917
Just gonna say, if you made this into a series where you give a retrospective of every year (yes even the ones where they didn't release any films good enough for your ranking), you'd have yourself +1 sub. A well made video, thank you sir
Haha I just might. Appreciate u watching!
Bro i think you are gonna blow up you are in my recommended
Thanks for watching🙏
2014 and 2018 have been the best years for movies🎬❤

1939 Mr Smith Goes to Washington, Wizard of Oz, Gone With the Wind, Stagecoach etc
1957 12 Angry men, Paths of Glory, Bridge on the River Kwai, Sweet Smell of Success, etc
1975 Cuckoo's Nest, Jaws, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Barry Lyndon
1999- Too many movies to count. Matrix, American Beauty, Fight Club, Sixth Sense etc etc etc
1982- The Thing, ET, Blade Runner, Gandhi, Tootsie, Sophie's Choice, First Blood etc
2007- NCFOM, There Will be Blood, Superbad, Ratatoullie, Zodiac etc
Love this list. Honestly didnt realize how good ‘57 & ‘75 were!
oh my god 57 is actually stacked
I was looking through my library and didn’t realize how many of my favorite movies came out in 2014, I was like, damn, 2014 was actually a great year for movies wtf?
1994 has three timeless masterpieces: Forrest Gump, The Shawshank Redemption and Pulp Fiction, that's the best year in my opinion.
1984 had many classics like Karate Kid, Terminator, Footloose, and much more.
These are very... lowest common denominator lists everyone is making.
I used to think 2013 was probably the best year for film (Gravity, Man of Steel, Catching Fire, Wolf of Wall Street, to name a few) but now you got me thinking
X-Men days of future past was also A legendary movie from 2014, nice video though
2012 was just as good 👌🏼👌🏼
Argo was probably the best imo!
Okay what?! I was literally saying this to my sister! We wrote up a whole list of movies from 2014 and most of our favourites are from that year. I'm so glad you mentioned the Maze Runner! I think people don't appreciate how good it was😄
I know there are too many to mention in one video but here's a few that need a mention.
The giver
Unbroken
Godzilla
Amazing Spiderman 2
Water Diviner
A Hundred Foot Journey
Testament of Youth
Star Wars Rebels
How to train your dragon 2
Star wars Rebels is not a movie,
And although you are entitled to your opinion, The Amazing Spider man 2 was... disappointing and a step down from the previous movies.
@@danielruud224
I know Rebels isn't a film but the show is soo underrated I wanted to mention it. And I do agree that the amazing spider man 2 definitely wasn't as good as the first but I don't think it deserves the amount of negativity it got 😁
Definitely some more good flicks!
This year could potentially be a great year too; we already have Dune Part 2, a spectacular film. And if Joker 2, Furiosa, and Alien: Romulus live up to their predecessors, I think it's safe to say this year could be on par with 1994. And don't forget Megalopolis by THE Francis Coppola; he's been "retired" for awhile, but I have hope.
Coppola is coming back!
great vid
Much thanks!
Days of Future Past is also from 2014 and it's definitely my favorite super hero movie after Winter Soldier
That and First Class were real good!
Godzilla that year cemented my love for kaiju movies. The scale of the supermassive monsters and the fight scenes just blew me away when I first saw it. It was also the first time (not 1998) Godzilla was properly introduced to the States. Gareth did a great job with it and made a new era for Godzilla fans to live in
2014 & 2010 are the goats years since 2000
xmen days of future past is one of my favourit movies
Twas also the year of I, Frankenstein, Robocop, The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies, Hunger Games Mockingjay pt 1 and Into the Woods
Damn 2014 was amazing… damn all in one year…
I'm telling you right now, 2024 is going to be better.
This video really makes you realise just how stale most films are now. But with releases like Dune, I'm starting to feel hopeful again.
Villeneuve’s Dune is what cinema needed!
Just a few extra films from 2014 in case anyone needs some more persuading:
Kingsman The Secret Service
The Interview
Unbroken
Big Eyes
Annabelle
Theory of Everything
Lucy
Rise of the Planet of the Apes
22 Jump Street
Edge of Tomorrow
Neighbors
Lego Movie
What We Do in the Shadows
X-Men Days of Future Past
Ride Along
Dumb and Dumber 2
It Follows
A Million Ways to Die in the West
Godzilla
Predestination
Inherent Vice
Mommy
While We're Young
Girlhood
AND Sharknado 2!
Banger of a year.
I don't disagree with this video, but I feel like we can't overlook last year :
Oppenheimer
John wick 4
mission impossible 7
killers of the flower moon
iron claw
anatomy of a fall
poor things
the killer
guardians 3
american fiction
thats stacked bro
Nah 2023 wasn’t anything, but I can’t believe spiderverse didn’t make your list
mission impossible 7 was ass
@@pokeybear3904 I mean compared to fallout it was a step down but that movie beats 90% of all the action movies of the last few years
@@fsproductions1760 why are you comparing fallout to mission impossible. fallout was 2024 too
@@letravioisvonqueshadequiquiquo mission impossible 6 (aka fallout), not the tv show my bad
2019 would like a word..
The Judge (2014) Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall.
great video....I guess my age is creeping up I would say 2014 was the best year in film since 1999 😶...give BIRDMAN another chance
Haha, thanks Jonathan! ‘99 is for sure up there
A lot of people are gonna exclude this because of anti CBM bias but X Men Days of Future Past is genuinely one of the best comic book movies ever made and it doesn’t get enough recognition amongst this great year. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is another one I don’t see enough people talking about. We were in different times back in 2014
2019 is also an amazing year of movies for me too but 2014 had the most varied instant classics
Yo David, can you recommend your top 15 movies that are a must watch? I feel like I am a bit behind on film culture.
If possible, you could also mention some of your top must watch shows.
Absolutely brother! Ill probably make a vid of my top films to watch. But in addition to the one’s in this vid lol, i recommend any David Fincher, Social Network, Se7en, and some other random films: Warrior, Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, Argo, North by Northwest
Americans talk about cinema once again ☕️☕️☕️
2012 is also 2014 level.
Django Unchained
TDKR
Skyfall
Hobbit
The Avengers
Silver Lining
Skyfall, Django, & Argo, sooo Good!
@@DavidVision528 yoo just checked out your channel you put a lot of effort man I thought u had a mill subs 😭 Keep it up man this video is going viral.

2019 was also pretty great ngl.
The Equalizer 👌
Extremely good movies that weren't mentioned:
Fury
Edge of Tomorrow
When Marnie Was There
Predestination
Ex_Machina
The Raid 2
The list goes on and on. 2014 was amazing.
You forgot The Babadook, that I think was one of the most successful horror films that didn't rely on cheap jumpscare but actual horror. Also an honorable mention, Creep, the viral hit from Netflix, which honestly took me by surprise (like I literally didn't even know what it was about before I watched it) and was a genuinely good thriller/horror.
Oooh, never watched the creep, but on my long list of horror films to watch now lol
Dont forget 2019: Joker, the two popes, the irishman, little women, marriage story, ford vs Ferrari, knives out, midsommar, 1917, once upon a time in Hollywood, and of course END GAME.
I feel like its a perfect time to reflect on the flawed but incredible Godzilla (2014). This year we got GxK which rerouted the Monsterverse into the absurdity and into a more familiar territory with dumb, campy, zero-stakes fun, but we really lost a awe-inspiring and immersive version of this cinematic universe that was ushered in by the incredible Gareth Edwards.
2019 was the peak in my opinion
I would say 2014, 2017 and 2019 were the best years for film in the 2010s decade.
Don't go disrespecting 1999 like that
Haha i try not to 😂
2017 was awesome too
i love godzilla 2014 and always will!
The 2014 Godzilla movie before they butchered the icon turning it into a franchise.
Underrated Gareth Edwards flick
Another great one was When Marnie Was There from Ghibli
I need to catch up on those Ghibli films lol
The Fault In Our Stars 🌟 ❤💫🌟
Damn i didnt know 2014 was my favorite year, here are additional movies you couldnt include:
• the purge anarchy
• httyd 2
• transformers age of extinction
• the lego movie
• penguins of madagascar
• the interview
• ride along
• Ex machina
• A million ways to die in the west
• Divergent
I suppose these arent all good movies from the movie making aspect but they were all my favorite child hood movies. Ofcourse myfavorite for the year is interstellar
Yeah many more fun watches! Btw, dig your edits 🙏
@@DavidVision528 woah thank you very much sir, but edits I upload on youtube aren't meant to be good I just do it cause I have friends on here who are still going at it
@@DavidVision528Ex machina ia one of the best sci fi movie of all time. We’re the same🎉
I definitely felt like something was missing. I remember that 2013 and 2014 had some creative and good flims that the following years had lacked or only a few good pieces. Good to know I wasn't then only one.
Good, now it's time to look outside of Hollywood
2007 is goated
I kinda wanna make a video by myself about 2019 now lol
Make it! Great year in film

2024? Idk
Fr! Started off strong with Dune 2
your very underated. good job.
Thanks Harrison!
Idk if you know A Most Violent Year, but it's such a pretty underrated gem of a film set in 1981 NYC starring Oscar Isaac & Jessica Chastain.
I did watch it! Pretty decent film. I dug the 80’s NYC aesthetic, and also that ending was quite thrilling
@@DavidVision528 Oscar Isaac especially gave off 70s Pacino/Michael Corleone vibes.
The success of Guardians of the Galaxy shouldn't just go to James Gunn but also Nicole Perlman (she wrote the screenplay alongside Gunn and was the first person to envision the characters that we know and love today). There's a whole behind the scenes drama when Gunn tried to take her name out of the movie but ultimately failed.

This video does a good job explaining that.
Hmm interesting, will take a look into that
I think 1993-94 was the greatest year of cinema history
