    Ken,
Would you be kind enough to do a “second look” at this lens with consideration of using it on the XT3?
I also shoot with the Nikon 200-500 on my trusty d750 with really great results. But, now I often take my XT3 when hiking and I am considering purchasing the Fuji 100-400 for this purpose.
    Thanks in advance. 😀

  • @pegshealth

Regarding IS modes: I actually think that the camera body should detect what your shutter speed is and compensate by automatically putting the lens in the appropriate IS mode - so, behave like a smart system that it could be. Who wants to be shooting and have to stop and consider what IS mode they're in?

Hi Theoria, What do you think of getting Fringe EF-FX Pro2 Adapter with Sigma
100-600mm Sport-final price almost the same as Fuji 100-400mm but with
extra zoom of 600mm? Plus open up whole cheaper varieties of Sigma/Tokina/Tamron

Hi Theoria, a new friend here. I was thinking of buying long lens for my X-T4. I am considering between 2 lenses - 1st is the 50-140MM or the 100-400MM. I dont which one should I buy. I love both landscape and wildlife or bird photography or any nature photography. I am a beginner in photography and just learn it from youtube and attending some full courses. Which do you prefer for me to buy and why? Thank you.

I just bought the Fuji XF 100-400 and the rubber zoom ring has a little bit of lateral play. There’s zero lens creep, just a little lateral wobble. Is this normal? I’m not used to massive zooms so maybe it’s totally normal.

OK, full disclosure. i was on a 12mi hike in Patagonia in Oct. carrying my 5D MK III thinking it is time for a change. I ran across one of your videos on Fuji (i had a Fuji MF years ago that produced beautiful negatives). To make this already too long post brief i bought a used XT-20 kit with three Fuji lenses, then the xt-2, the fuji 16mm and 100-400. This week i bought the voightlander 58mm and zeiss 85mm, and nikkormat 200mm. All this gear has been fabulous and re-energized my photography. Love the Acros and shoot mostly in BW.
Your videos are entertaining and filled with pearls of wisdom.
Thank you so much. (sending more substantial thanks via PayPal)
PS stop recommending lenses for Fuji
PPS should i sell my only remaining Canon lens 500 f4?

Hi Ken. really like your vids very informative. have an x-t2 with a 100-400 mm .. the 5mtr to infinity or Full switch at the back end of the lens. can u explain that please. I normally shoot way over the 5 mtr mark [thats why I got the 100-400 mm] and mostly I shoot birds on the fly. does any position make a difference. 5 mtrs being the closest you can get to a subject for focusing right?
    thankyou.

    • @JaimeHammett
      @JaimeHammett Před 4 lety +3

yes. 5 to infinity mode make the focus work faster, but not the focus speed itself. The barrel have to move less distance, and so the focus is better. 5 means you are not going to be able to focus less than 5m.

    Hi there,
I own the 200 500 that I use on my D4, D700, D810 and I love it ... BUT, i can't travel with all my gear and I also got a Fuji X-H1 that I bought in order to travel lighter but no to compromise that much on the image quality. My use for this 100 400 mm would be 80% of the time to shoot aviation stuff. From fast moving jets to airshows with prop driven planes, stunts etc and 15% of the time to shoot equestrian and horse events.
Is this lens a good option for this type of shooting or should I just stick to my 50 to 140 with the TC 1.4 on it, loosing reach of course ... ?
What can the people that have used this 100 400 for aviation and airshow can tell me ? Thanks a lot :)

However this version is referred to as an 'IMPORT' while the regular fuji 100mm - 400mm lens that is priced at 1,507 chf is not. I love my D500 with 200-500mm for bird photography but here's my question...
Given the D500 with it's 20.1MP sensor, would I get more cropability with the 26MP X-T3 and the 100-400mm?
I mean given a small bird, will the X-T3 @ 400mm give me more pixels covering the bird that the D500 @ 500mm? (Let's not worry about the D500's better dynamic range for now). I'm only keeping the D500 and the 200-500mm for bird photography but if I can get 'as close' with the X-T3 and the 100-400mm I may consider selling my Nikon.

Hi. I appreciate the video and the good info. One suggestion - I thought there was a little too much repetition of several points. Maybe tighten it up a little? Thanks!

  • @Jessehermansonphotography

Probably wont get answered but you only said VR and Image rendition. How is sharpness, which is very important to wildlife of action photographers. How is weather sealing of the lens compared to the 200-500? How does the auto-focus acquisition compare? Tracking on the 200-500 is superb, is the 100-400 superb as well? I have rented the 200-500 a few times and recently sold my Nikon kit for XT3 kit. the 100-400 is on my short list, but curious if you could touch on these points? So far, I have never been disappointed with your recommendations, but I am wondering how sharpness and acquisition are compared to the 200-500. It might be a bummer to have to buy a used D750 and use the 200-500 for wildlife vs having the 100-400 for wildlife. (I shoot mammal wildlife so mostly static subjects. Acquisition accuracy matters more to me than speed.)

I dont think so 200-500 is weather sealed n sample variation is big.
But u get more reach with 500 n not to mention big weight almost double the weight of xf100-400.

At 400mm there's no reason not to get a sharp image, to test your steadiness use a tripod with is off, and es shutter keep it above 250ss, or higher, if your seeing your images sharper then you know it's in settings or your hand holding, use continuous mode with is on, I've found I get more consistent shots in continuous mode as the is works better if in single shot your is depending how you have it set up may only work when you hit shutter and you'll get out of focus shots. Good luck.
