Damn! Had no idea about this dataprep thing!! Great video!! Cntrl + Shift + D to select all the children of the Datasmith scene actor in the world outliner in unreal! At 42:39 .
Re: Dataprep workflow... Do we have to reimport the datasmith files every time we want to bulk edit materials? For me this isn't workable. It is perhaps better to export from revit to twinmotion where you can import using 'collapse by material' option - like collada/lumion workflow. And then from there export datasmith files and import these to unreal through twinmotion content plugin (currently ue 5.1 compatible). This way you can easily batch apply materials. If however you need to maintain object hiererachy and metadata etc for VR then stick to dataprep. But if you're only using unreal for simple archviz then twinmotion as a middle man is a decent time saver - at least for materials. It's also beneficial for import of various library assets that aren't available in unreal - like people.
@@luisandre2750 it means that in order to get the vr preview working inside UE, you need to fire up steam vr prior opening the engine. The button will not show up otherwise
This is great content, we just start using Unreal, love the dataprep part, gonna save us lot of time. Can i ask you one question, when we apply megascan material to revit model in unreal, the scale is really small, do we need to set up Revit unit before export via datasmith?
I cant speak for my guest, but I have had inconsistent results with the texture scale coming in from Revit (even with the FBX exporter). I have heard people say exporting to metric will get better results but I've still found it inconsistent. I usually end up scaling my textures up almost 15x in TM using the scale slider in TM.
I'm facing an issue in Unreal after exporting the Revit Arch Model into Unreal via Datasmith export process. Basically when i apply other materials on static mesh of Datasmith Arch Model they are so tiny/micro. in order to solve this i have to use textureCoordinates node in Material editor and change 0.12 or 0.01 values for (x,y) for all the materials. i dont want that ....
I have a question, when I try to "Export 3D View" I get an error saying "Cannot Export the 3D view: Object reference not set to an instance of an object" Any way to fix this? I'm sure it's easy I'm most likely just missing something. Thanks!
unreal is free for architects and 3d artist.. it paid for game developer once you publish the game, and the game makes $100k then there is royalty on the published game
Great video!! just a quick question, isnt it better to first export to twinmotion, changing materials, lights, etc and then exporting to unreal for better quality?
@@TheRevitKid No, there are times I try downloading software that people would say it’s safe to download but my antivirus software would flag it as dangerous. Also I just to be safe that’s why I asked if it was legal to download.
I have been working in UE4 for 3 years in arch viz and never knew about Data prep, loving the channel , thank you, thank you, thank you!
Glad to hear it!!
great insight - thanks! and now there is lumen around. got some great results in a very short time.
For what its worth... Lumen is also now in Twinmotion, too! :)
Data prep is super, super useful. Really surprised that this is the first time I'm hearing about it after hundreds of tutorials.
Well, I am glad you NOW have heard about it :) cheers!
Thanks for the great video Jeff.!
cheers man!
Great stuff. I'd only recommend that motion blur be disabled for webcasting.
Still valid webinar, maybe even more valid now than 2 years ago.

Yeah! That was an AWESOME tip! Cheers!
Great video. Have you tested trying to use Unreal to render a BIM 4D visualization?
Great for experts, however experts wouldn't probably watch this level of instruction.

Goodjob
Why would you use a Revit model in UE? Revit geometry is like crazy unoptimized
When I open a saved project, I can’t interact with the objects I saved, only the landscape. Has anyone else experienced something like this?
Couldnt see what he was clicking, in down left corner
Sorry! Live show... I try my best to make it a good experience but technical issues happen!
@@TheRevitKid no worries, the vid was good, but many newcomers to ue4 missed does click.
If I change something in my model, how can I reimport model by Dataprep?
The problem with UE and VR is that you need to load steam prior to open UE to see it. I went mad until I discovered that.
What does it mean ?

What UE could bring more than twinmotion for exemple?
An online multiplayer video game inside a BIM model with artificial intelligence telling players where to go?
awesome channel great show

I believe you have to export in cm units for Unreal
only catching up now... so is it worth it to pay for twinmotion if you can get the engine for free?
If you are looking for an out-of-the-box library, UI, materials, etc... yes. IMHO.

That is one potential way now that the bridge is BETTER !! The TM to Unreal bridge was barely Alpha during this livestream.
I haven’t gotten working very well with UE5.1.
Can we get a updated one for hoe to do this for unreal egine 5 beta ?
What software was used to import revit to (like blender and Maya/ 3DS Max) unreal engine 4?
Mark, there are a few different ways but this tutorial shows using the "Datasmith" connector which essentially brings Revit right into Unreal.
