Can we just get an animated Halo TV series? This was evidence that it not only could've worked but also allowed the lore to be explored at a very affordable budget.

Halo doesn't need to be super complex, it just has to be made well and with the tastes of the audience in mind. Not half assed and dismissive in favor of "expanding their audience."
No I completely agree. I'd rather see something be refined, instead of completely reinvented (especially when the reinvention hardly resembles the original). Since each episode is at max around 20 minutes, its hard to pull off anything more than what we got. If we ever get another Halo anthology, I'd like to see fewer episodes and stay with characters longer so that their stories can be even more impactful.
The simplest stories are the best ones.

I’ll always stand by the idea that we NEED a band of brothers type of show about marines or odst and have Spartans be a special appearance done by the studio that did prototype..

"Is animation the best route for Halo?" Well I mean given how well the reception was for Halo Legends was I would venture to say absolutely. Oh and let's not forget the stellar work that Blur Studio did on the Halo 2 Anniversary and Halo Wars 2 animated cutscenes. I mean those speak for themselves.
I know you kinda made a joke out of it but hilariously and unironically, Odd One Out actually did have a much better version of Chief than the Paramount show did, hahaha XD

also cant forget the fall of reach and mona lisa movies but on the topic i would say the best halo live action would have to be foward unto dawn movie shows a great depiction of my favorite non spartan lasky and also a great cheif depiction and a good spartan depiction for live action in general (i.e brutally efficient mostly silent but sympathetic ) when he fights hunters in that and not what ever we saw in the tv show but i will say it was nice seeing some of the things in the tv show be brought to live action

Prototype was my favorite... I feel it capsulated everything Halo perfectly..and they didn't even need a Spartan to do it.
Well tecnically there was some spartan presence in prototype this being the hrunting/yggdrasil MarkI power armor or the Mjolnir mark I protype of the armor spartans wear which was reacondosioned to make a regular marine fight like a spartan.
Plus the prototype armor is in Minecraft so that also adds to it being the best episode.
I love calling "Odd One Out" the "Levity Episode", because in the DVD it hits you with The Duel and Homecoming back to back, so OOO just provided that beautiful break from "ouch, my flippin' soul". Before Prototype follows it and brings you right back to "ouch, my flippin' soul". For twelve years, ever since I first heard it, Ghost's last words have stuck with me through thick and thin.

I prefer watching it last since it's the only one that's not canon. Plus I love tragic/depressing stories, so doing homecoming and prototype back to back is a given for me.
@@CulturedCrusader I watched it back when I was like, 11, so Homecoming skated just above my head for it to hit as hard as it does now, but I remember Prototype and the Duel were the two that really stuck. I almost cried myself to sleep that night because the Duel made me so sad.
I feel like that's something that the new Halo series failed to understand. Halo's about hope, perseverance, and sacrifice. And Prototype especially captures that sentiment perfectly. You have a marine, an absolute survivability write-off in most situations, but he takes the suit to defend his fellow marines that he's responsible for. He's giving them hope, perseveres through a horde of Covenant, and makes the ultimate sacrifice in the end. It just feels so... Halo, to me.
Also, completely off topic, that Punisher joke about Cal was phenomenal. Well played, friendo.

I love that Crusader focuses on Ghost's need to "do it all" in spite of the fact that he's only human and not a Spartan, because of how Lord Hood closes the episode, changing Ghost's status to "Missing in Action," just like they did for Spartans.
Ghost finally does what he set out to do, and he's enshrined with the Spartans for it.
Basically a comedic interlude.
The Babysitter and Homecoming are perfect with how they show the strengths, weaknesses, and humanity of the Spartans. Take notes paramount! This is how you write Spartans!
9:14 Fun Fact: Johnson in Halo Wars 2 has a variant of the Prototype armor. The HRUNTING/YGGDRASIL Mark I [J] and, while some of the leaders may not be canon, the units showcased in Halo Wars 2 are canon so there exists a variant of this armor, however we have yet to see more of it. Also, I kind of want to see the Mega Bloks Cyclops Variants get some love in canon.
Fun Fact: Daisy had a charm in a form of a Teddy Bear that she cherished. This very same Charm can be bought in Halo Infinite for your Armor. 8:02
Halo was all about humanity's struggle against insurmountable odds and the episode prototype perfectly encapsulates it.
Man, I never get tired of finding more people that share my love of halo legends and actually just.... get it. Hell yes we need more halo anime, especially now that anime is more mainstream and profitable. Besides, after what we've gotten in the past few years, it honestly can't be any worse to at least try and see what we get. And yes I am willing to tempt fate like that; Halo Legends is just that good.

Didn't actually watch the show, but I saw the reviews of the Halo TV series. I think this one quote basically sums everything up.
It started off decent enough (even though MC showed his face in ep 1) but by the end you'd be forgiven for not realizing it's a Halo show.

I watched this as a young teenager, maybe even kid, idk it was a long time ago. I've since rewatched some of the episodes because it left an impression on me. All the dope action, tragic moments of futility and the Arbiter soloing an army are what stuck in my mind. 1337's low squat he takes hyping himself up, Ghost fucking liquefying that Hunter, Fred drawing his knife, "Let's sprint this," etc, etc. There are just so many moments I feel nostalgia for.
It's just a cool little series that captures what I love about halo. It's a shame 343 has lost sight of what made the series so great.

I remember Origins would always make me lose a tear simply because of the sound track and the nostalgia that it made me feel. I always go back to it every now and then.
The prototype ending is even more hard hitting when you find out what the name of the frigate was that his men were evacuated on and what happened to it not long after.

The cgi in the package was my favorite!! That was so fun to watch.
As a halo fan it was my wet dream watching the chief wrecking stuff on a covie ship, and the energy sword duel was so cool, it was awesome back then and still is

Ever since I first watched it as a kid, I've loved this movie with ever fiber of my soul. This show represents every good thing in the Halo universe and then some. From tragedy and horror, to the brief respites between the battlefield and the the lives the people were defending back home, this show provides a peer into the lives of the Sangheili, Forerunners, and Humans. The tragedy of loss and sacrifice is rampant throughout the runtime and bring an air of sorrow as well as a sense of agency for the warriors that were still fighting. While two of the episodes broke from this concept, they were necessary to allow the viewer a bitter and sorrow experience and to lighten the mood.
Very few things in Halo can masterfully tell the stories this one has in such interesting ways.
Please, Microsoft, make things like this a standard.
Ghost receiving the "missing in action" at the end brought me to tears for reasons I still can't explain
I would love to see a official Halo Anime done in the prototype artstyle set at the start of the Human covanant war from the average marine squads perspective.
Modern Halo desperately needs to show more love to marines and odsts

@@CulturedCrusader I think they could as long as they keep the paramount crew away, they done a good job building up how unstoppable Spartans are, now just imagen if they stuck to that with a Spartan being a main antagonist through a large portion of the show instead of being viewed as the hero. That would be a compelling premise at least for me as these average joe people have to take on a Spartan, kinda like the whole if Superman turned evil thing.

The Duel: just shows why the Swords of Sanhelihos were formed to put an end to the Covenant.
The Package: I really love this one due to the fast paced action and makes me wish that John and Locke fought eachother with energy swords.
Origins: This one made me understand the Halo lore even before I got my first Halo game(Halo 5 sorry not sorry) and did some great foreshadowing for both Cortana going rampit in Halo 4 and her bringing up the whole war thing shows one of the reasons she goes rogue in Halo 5.
Homecoming: Rest in Peace Daisy. Also this is why I hate Halsey to the point where I was grinning ear to ear in the scene where Master Cheeks almost kills her in Paramount Halo episode 6.

The odd one out: Next time on Halo Ball Z
Conclusion: this was the first Halo content I have experienced that got me into the franchise the second being RvB if that counts. And even as a Halo fan who likes the Paramount Halo Series I agree this is a better Halo series.
As bad as Halsey was. I still believe what she did was right. Was it morally right? Absolutely not. Was it nessacary for humanity's survival? Yes. I'm with it. I see your point of view though.

The one thing I wish I could see referenced in a lot of Machinimas would be the opening of “you ever wonder why we’re here?” But then the joke would get stale.
Still, it’s pretty funny if it would get referenced.
And to pair, yes, this was awesome. Halo Legends just is Halo but an animated and cooler form. Which is why we can tell our kids this was the Halo TV show and not this bullcrap.
Dr Halsey isn't even the worst person in the Spartan Program. Admiral Parangosky and Franklin Mendez are even worse in what they did.

@@keithedwards499 You also need to keep in mind that Halsey didn't actual make the Spartan II's to fight the Covenant, they were made to fight the Insurrection, other humans. So it's less that her actions are justified because they were to save humanity and more that they saved humanity despite the original purpose of the Spartan II's. Hating her is 100% justified and if anything is how most people who go deep into the lore feel seeing as if you really look at her as a character she's kinda insane. But I do get what you mean by it was necessary just not for what she intended them for and now she mostly just uses the whole "my Spartans saved humanity" as a way to justify what she did, she even tried this in the opening of Halo 4 when being interrogated.

I remember watching this when I was like 8 (I'm 14 now) but the duel was probably my favorite episode because of how obsessed I was with the elites. Can 100% guarantee Halo:Legends is infinitely better than the live action tv show seeing as the directors were woke feminists who literally refused to study or even play the games.
I first played Halo when I was about 8. It's been a decade, and I've been in love with the Elites that entire time. It's a more mature love now, but kid me definitely only liked them cos they looked cool

My favorite part about prototype is that ghost isn't declared dead. He's declared missing in action, just like a Spartan.
Prototype hands down is my favourite, it’s got the nice touch of sadness, being a badass, and having a great ending. 10/10.
The Package was weird. All members of the covenant have green blood, which is at odds with the games since none of their blood is green. And Halsey's age is unnaturally young at its point in the timeline.

Halo was born with anime in its DNA which is why everything translates so well over to anime, from the stories to the soundtrack to the graphics. Look at the concept art for the Halo CE and it just screams 90s anime. I'm pretty sure the artists at Bungie at the drew inspiration from anime and were fans of it as well.

The rivalry is actually because an ODST commander ordered 6 ODST elite troopers to attack John 117 before he got the Mjulnir armor and cheif killed 4 and severely crippled the other 2. It was immediately after his augmentation so he had no control training with the augmented strength. Despite knowing the details, the ODSTs still hold that grudge, but also the Spartans took their spot light, the ODSTs were rhe top dog and now some of their best were beaten to death by a 13 year old.
God I loved this series as an kid The Babysitter, Homecoming and The Prototype especially cause the fact we followed the stories of soldiers in the halo universe especially the Babysitter Being the ODST's who don't mix well with Spartans (due to Spartans being super soldiers and the incident that lead to the death/disablement of multiple ODST's leaving the ODST's rather resentful) having to work together to assassinate a prophet and how in the end they come to respect Spartans as they realize that underneath those suits and the augments that they're not these humanlike machines... They're still just humans just like they themselves are

It’s difficult to do Spartans properly with Live Action. ODST’s and Marines on the other hand: That’s what the live action series should have focused on. Just imagine going through the entire series following a group of ODST’s, and somewhere towards the end throw in a Spartan Cameo just to display the sheer power difference.
Fuck it: That’s how Spartans should’ve been introduced; Marines faced against a Scarab, when all seems lost the scarab begins counting down and then explodes in a hail of glory: Walking out of the rubble is the man himself: Spartan 1337.

This is the only Halo show I remember. This shit was bomb each and every episode was such a damn good time.

I got this as a present one year from a family member who knew I liked halo and I thought how did this find this obscure knockoff anime. Little did I know I’d rewatch it a 100 times and they’d never make a sequel to it.
Also pretty neat to note, the Prototype armor project eventually led to the invention of three things. The MJOLNIR project for Spartan armor, the Mantis mech suit from Halo 4, and it indirectly helped lead to the creation of GUNGNIR armor.
Edit: Whoops got my stuff backwards. The prototype armor is the result of merging MJOLNIR with several weapons platforms which turned the suit into a mech. This is the Mark 1 with the Mantis being the Mark 9. Apologies for any confusion, that was my bad.

Legends was a random DVD on the shelf when I was home sick from school in fifth grade, it’s what got me into games that my brother was playing and brought us together through halo 3 split screen. If they made more anime type stuff I would buy it so fast

Honestly an anime style show would really work for Halo, especially how in halo legends they cared about pleasing the fans unlike a certain TV show. That and figure it would be easier for the covenant then using cgi with actors

Tbh Halo Legends made me so confused when I was a child, I thought someone had mixed up all the cds into one, because legit every episode looked so different. But I remember loving the anime version, it was awesome seeing a spartan operating a mech just firing a minigun upon those foolish heretics!

Prototype is one of my favorite pieces of Halo media in general. Its so well done, and as you said, shows some of what the average person in the Halo universe would feel like and of course, how unforgiving war is.

I rewatch this a LOT. It really takes me back to when I adored the Halo lore. Love every episode (except the package), but if I had to pick a favourite it's prototype

I remember getting my parents to allow me to watch this, as they were highly protective of me regarding TV, movies and video games (I couldn't play Halo until I was at least 14 or 15 iirc). Has since become one of my favourite movies of all time. Of all the episodes in the movie, I think my favourite was actually "Homecoming", largely due to the fact that it deals with a Spartan's realization of the ugly truth that is the SPARTAN Program. It also introduced me to "Under Cover of Night", arguably one of the best songs from the original game (which I now have had the pleasure of playing in its entirety thanks to MCC) and in my opinion, one of the best songs in general from the franchise.
If I had to pick a second and third favourite, it would be "Prototype" and "Odd One Out", respectively.

I never looked into it, but you could 100% feel the same vibes between Origins and The Second Rennaissance. Decades after watching the latter, it's still a fun watch.
