- I know I pronounced nearly every name of anything foreign in this video wrong so I'm sorry in advance. This is the story of that really mysterious creature that terrorized France in the 1700s. That killed upwards of 100 people. What was it? A wolf? A hyena? A lion? A CRYPTID??? Tell me what you guys think!

I'm a brit, the beast of bodmin is a supposed large black cat that lives round the moors of Bodmin. When you look it from a practical side, not a supernatural side it makes sense that there are some large cats in uk . In 1960s the real upmarket store called Harrods sold any animal you wanted to anyone who could afford it. People had cheetahs, panthers, leopards etc in their home. Then the dangerous animal act was introduced in 1976 and many owners released them rather than destroy them and in the large cat genus there are only 3 main families and many of the species in each family can reproduce (pantherinae have the lions, tigers, jaguars, leopards etc; acinonyx has cheetahs and puma has the cougar and caracal etc. Many of the pantheras can interbreed and not all are sterile(though some like the lion/tiger cross are sterile and can't reproduce but the majority can create hybrid young that can mate) and it was found that black coloring is very dominant in these panthera hybrid species) so these large black cats are more than likely different types of the panthera family of cats that have met and mated and managed to keep making enough young to live to this day. Lately there have been some very clear videos of large black cats in UK and instead of thinking cryptid and fantasy/magical beings people should realise its likely a real large cat from a family that loved it too much (and too stupid) to euthanise it and its ancestors found many others who shared their fate
If they killed it, why couldn't they taxidermy it so we could actually see what it was 😭
Never heard of Google?
Because they were multiple of them
@@fiorettiduseigneurcapybara2492you don't say, I thought animals just existed as 1 of each species.
We need a new name for the hollow Earth because people think it's actually like a completely hollow Earth when really it's referencing gigantic enormous caverns.
Agartha has always been a term lol
Why? It's obviously not real. It all started cos of admiral Byrd who said he saw a sun inside the earth, which obviously makes no sense cos they're huge and very, very hot. He said there were trees, which we all know can't live without the sun. I wonder why he ended up in a mental hospital lol
So interesting! Awesome research!
This is a cool video my guy
Saw your fb video about this and it brought me here. Cool beast
I remember I read about this in a book when I was younger and it terrified me
To me many of the details might describe a lion, but that doesnt explain why every drawing shows an elongated canine-like muzzle. It also doesnt explain how it could withstand being shot SO MANY times and somehow not dying.
I remember this, most people believe it was a pet hyena, someone brought a hyena and train and raised it to hunt people, they would then loot the bodies and hide the hyena away again untul later.
Wild dog / Hyenas/ Wolf
Remix
Great man eater story!
I remember hearing somewhere that the taxidermy specimen was. Big hyena which was unknown to this area in the 1700s. I don't remember where I heard it.
Gotta watch'em all 🫀
Could have been a Wild Wolf/Dog Hybrid.
Yes is definitely could've been!
Hyena
I think the movie The Botherhood of the Wolf is loosely based on this story.
Maybe some type of animal we thought were extinct, or some animal we haven't discovered yet? ozark howler vibes.
Yes I agree but if it was a extinct animal I would say a dire wolf
It was definitely a hyena
@@taranrichard8452 dire wolves are not much larger than grey wolves tbh, in fact dire wolves were still smaller than big dog breeds like irish wolfhounds
This story has mystified and terrified me for many years by far one of my favourite true horror stories I wish that the Pelt was preserved so we could find me solve mystery but oh well
You're safe mate, it was in 1770s
Whoa 😮😮😮
Hear me out,
What if those two beast is just the same species and there's much more of them out there
i definetly think it couldve been some sort of hyena
Wow ❤
i think it was a werewolf! bc of the longer hind legs
I think its Hyena
BTW, "slayed" isn't a word. The beast was slain. Someone slew the beast.
Understandable. As a fellow grammar Nazi good point, I think he may have confused the words 'flayed' and 'slain' and spoonerised it lol
❤❤❤❤
I thought dire wolf too. 😅
Yeah but they were said to have gone extinct 15 thousand years ago it’s not likely that it would have been a dire wolf
@@taranrichard8452 yea it was probably a lion I figure.
@@mayhemx9 yeah but they aren’t really native to gevaudan France but it could have been an escaped pet lion
@@taranrichard8452 yes I agree
@@mayhemx9 I think I could have been a pack of wolves following the leader and killing towns folk all around
Heyena?!?
Yeah the leading theory is that it’s an escaped pet hyena that got hungry
@@sssssavannahballpython2048 I heard the tiger theory to
Hyenas wouldn't go crazy and randomly kill that many people. Would they?
@@samlesserofficial wild animals are unpredictable. They seem to have a set behavioral pattern and suddenly deviate from it for seemingly random/no reason. That hey Ana could’ve been injured and/or hungry. Which would’ve driven it to hunt “easy” prey. Hence why it snatched young and old.
@@Damarcus123 it could have been anything but what is a funny theory is people say Lycan/werewolf
