  • What's it like living at Lake Chapala? We're going around town to the stores, restaurants, dentists, & more!

We've been living in Ajijic for over a month now and it's time to show you guys what daily life is like. What is the culture and lifestyle at Lake Chapala all about? Today we're going around town to see what the local mall is like, the movie theaters, stores, restaurants, dentists (and dental prices) and some more details about the culture and life in Lake Chapala.
    ABOUT US (MADDIE & JORDAN)
In January 2018, we sold everything we owned in the US (except our husky Laska & what fit in our tiny, tangerine Prius C3) to travel the world-starting with Mexico. Since then, we've been making travel videos about our life in Mexico and the new experiences we encounter while traveling the world. If you'd like to join our shenanigans, subscribe to our CZcams channel. You can also poke around our social media to find out what we’re up to each week.

Dont listen to the negative comments. Show us the good and bad. In my home town in mexico to me it beautiful, but theirs also bad things about it. But that is anywhere. Here in phoenix its the same. We have our good things and bad things about it. Summer suck but drive to sedona and summer is awesome. Anyone who moves anywhere should want to know as much as they can. And yall are doing a great service. Keep it up!!!!

Very good guys, I’m with you always support local venders and markets, I don’t go to Walmart unless I absolutely have too, I’ve seen many mom an pops businesses go down across the country here in the USA when Walmart shows up. I’ve traveled across the country and have seen it first hand. I’m also totally with you on giving money to people that earn it and are working for it, not the beggars that just come up to you for money. One more thing somethings that we sometimes think as bad things coming from the USA might just be different and we can’t come on as arrogant people thinking/acting like we are better.. not saying this is the case at all with you guys but somethings are just different in Mexico. Not saying México is perfect cuz it’s not and there’s stuff I don’t like either. Regardless good job on your videos, keep up the good work

Love your videos about my hometown, Chapala, now that I'm stuck on Saba Island in the Dutch Caribbean at my vacation home for the duration of the pandemic until we get vaccinated and I can return for this summer...I hope. Couldn't go back for last summer/fall as I would normally do. Enjoyed seeing all my familiar places, my malecón, my Walmart, my restaurants, the LCS where I help teach line dancing (I'm 72 and most of the class memberts are older than I am,) and my neighborhood just 1/2 block from the Casita del Molcajete where you ate once. You likely noticed that there is little to no graffiti in Ajijic and Chapala. There are four of us, two in each municipality, who go out once a week and clean it up. Many citizens come up to us and thank us for our volunteerism and even give us money for supplies. We are supported by the Ajijic Garden Club for purchasing materials. We've been doing this since 2011 and once the towns were totally cleaned up, there has been a lot less new tagging. Of course murals aren't considered graffiti. Your videos have given me the urge to visit more parts of my adopted country. I used Spencer to upgrade my RT to a RP in 2013 when they had just first changed the rules and it took 6 months, now about 2-3 weeks. Isn't he the best? You are both good examples for North Americans coming to live in Mexico with the effort you've put into speaking Spanish showing the naysayers that it indeed can be done. You've developed good accents and you can say "rr" too! I've lived outside the US for 11 years now, also from Phoenix where I was a family doc for CIGNA most of my career, but have no reason or intention to return. I suspect you'll find a way to spend most of the rest of your lives headquartered somewhere in this beautiful country among its wonderful people. Keep on posting, I look forward to each new vid!

Do you have any recommendations for (in Guadalajara) nice walkable areas/neighborhoods with good restaurant and bars, not a flood area (WTH), great (high speed, unlike around the lake...) internet, social areas w/ things to do, and people generally in a mid 20's to mid 50s crowd? Suggestions are welcome, we are here for 5 more weeks to check things out!

Another great video. Thanks for keeping it real. Couple questions. Is it difficult to cross the street when walking? Is there a cross walk? Is it true there isn’t swimming and boating in Lake Chapala due to danger of underwater barbed wire and random old fishing nets? Barbed wire from old cow pastures when water level was low. Thanks from Ca.

    • @jackb1803
      @jackb1803 Před 5 lety

There are 4 intersections in town where you can cross with the lights, but none of them have a working pedestrian button and light. A large number of people simply walk across the street wherever they are, which takes a certain amount of skill.
As far as the barbed wire fences and fishing nets, it sounds plausible. I've seen fisherman use casting nets to fish, and I've also seen sectioned-off pastures when the water is low. But this is not everywhere particularly in the towns.

I'm from GDL and personally, I thought you were kind on the city. Don't me wrong I love it there, but I also don't put on blinders. My main issues are:
    1. Traffic. Ay güey...So much of it 🤯
    2. The smog near the city center
    3. The noise
    4. How long it takes to get to a destination that really isn't that far away.
I'm really enjoying your channel so please keep up the good work.

The mosquito-like bugs are called midges in English and they commonly swarm near water or marshy areas where they breed. They're all over my home on the shore of Lake Erie.

Uggh! I just paid $240. cdn. for a cleaning & de-scaling & that is after paying $114. for X rays to see if I needed any fillings or extra work done. We are considering Lake Chapala area as soon as the travel restrictions make it a little easier to leave & return to Canada.

I don´t know that kind of insects but I think sometimes down there are called "bobos" ( traslated as silly bugs), here in Sonora sometimes in rain seasson we have this kind of anoying swarming bugs but the ones we have here are teeny tiny bugs, as small as a head of a pin, we call them "bobitos" (teeny tiny silly bugs)
