How to foil using a Patsy May toner Foiling machine.

- This short clip shows how you can add foil to any artwork printed on your laser printer using our foiling machine. The image must be created using a laser printer or photocopier. Place foil over the artwork, cover with a thin piece of paper and feed through the machine. Peel back the foil and the printed image is covered. It gives a wonderful professional finish to your hand made cards, wedding invitations, business cards, certificates etc.

It is stamped or cold or hot stamping
This is a hot foiling system. It is not stamping but foiling onto a laser printed image or text. The Foil It machine remelts the toner which acts as the adhesive for the foil.
hi, I have a problem, when I peel the foil some of it stays on the white paper (not on the prinring) and on the other hand not all of the foil stays on the printed area. what should I do?
A normal laminator is unlikely to reach the temperatures required for foiling. It has to be toner foil for using with this method.
so if i took my white paper and printed it a mint colour on my inkjet would a copyshop print my 'black' image onto it even though it isn't laser paper?
Hi Katie, if you wanted the mint image to stay, you can print over or beside it with a laser printer. However, as I explained when we spoke recently not all copy shops use laser printers or copiers, some are now digital and they woul dnot foil.

This is a great video. We have just purchased a laser printer and the foil machine. We have found that the samples provided with the foil machine worked beautifully but with the new laser printer of our own the foil does not seem to stick. Have you got any recommendations on how to print the image on your laser printer? Setting and whether the print has to be in back and white? Any help would be mud appreciated.

firstly not all laser printers are compatible with the foiling. I need to know which printer you are using. Also it needs to be good quality print and not on draft. Then you need to look at the temperature you are using for the thickness of card and are you leaving it to cool before pulling the foil off.

Will it take 250 gsm card which the maximum thickness I can run through my laser printer?
The maximum thickness it will take is approx 350gsm, taking the cover sheet into account you can easily use 250gsm card.

From customer feedback, we have found that Samsung, Brother or HP printers work the best while using the genuine toner. The black spots may not be caused by your printer. Do you have the Foil It machine or are you using your laminator? Black spots can be caused by the temperature not being high enough or on the other hand with the temperature being high and not leaving the card long enough to cool down before pulling of the foil, which pulls of the toner that has not set again.
+Alan Perry Hello, yes we are using the machine we got from yourselves, I have purchased a new HP mono laser today so will test tonight - crossed fingers as we tested your samples and they were perfect so we have the heat settings right and foil works but not our prints...will see how we get on later! Thanks

Hello the reason is, its the wrong type of foil you are using.
The foil you are using has a adhesive on the back which releases with heat and pressure to be used with a die.
You need toner foil sometimes known as laser foil or sublimation foil please see our web site as we have a large selection of foils look at the Toner foil folder.
So if id print an image with an injet printer, and then id print some text on top of it using a laser printer, id be able to foil the text without spoiling the image printed with the inkjet printer ?
Yes thats right. The foil will only stick to the text from the laser printer without spoiling the inkjet picture.

It will not work with inkjet printer, it must be a laser printer. It is the toner that melts and acts as the adhesive for the foil.
I mean the foil must be for laser printer which is normally used

Go to patsymay.co.uk/contents/en-uk/d110_Foiling_Machine.html on the 20th of this month and you will be able to buy it there for £120 + £9 postage for the A4 model or £150 ( I think ) for the A3 model. They are the only people that sell this machine in the UK.........that I know of anyway.
