  • This series of videos is all about the restoration and fit out of the Dutch Barge "Neeltje" and hopefully the journeys we get to make with her. This episode is about the survey, problems arising, and the fixes for them.

Nice to see some barge conversion from the beginning!
You still have quite some work ahead of you, but will be very rewarding.
If you choose to have polyurethane sprayfoam insulation (which is good for many reasons), you can't weld later on the insulated surfaces.
In either case it's best to keep the metalwork and interior finishing separated as much as possible, so my humble advise is to get all the metalwork done first (robustly).
As for the through-hulls/holes: obviously have as few as possible, and try to avoid seacocks. I opted for 150mm diam. standpipes out of thick (>10mm) steel where all the discharge is routed to (toilet/shower/bilge etc). It should be standing from the bottom until at least 200mm above the waterline. Then, if you use a small ventpipe from the top to outside you will also never have issues with cycling pumps as there will be an air gap.
You can use a similar standpipe for your grey water intake (toilet / deckwash), and combine this with a depthsounder that you can lower inside the pipe on a stick (although you might want the depthsounder at the front of the boat
Also, for better sailing (motoring) performance you probably want as much ballast as can possibly fit below the floor while making sure the rear of the keel is a bit lower than the front of the boat.
There's my few cents. You have a very pretty ship with lots of options to cruise comfortably!
    Looking forward to more episodes.

Looks like a great result from the survey, plenty of steel left😊😊

Great to see you’re progressing with project Barge. This just shows how much work needs to be done behind the scenes before the interior work can even start!
Could it be an old depth sensor underneath?
    Keep up the good work.

it would be great if you could hear it all.

Great video. Wonder why the overplating of the turn of the bilge didn't go above the wsterline.

Only found your channel today, so playing catch-up. If you haven't already, will you please consider getting a separate mic, preferably with a wind cover? Your content is so interesting, but a lot of the time it's very difficult to make out what you're saying.

This would have been a fascinating episode - if I could have understood a word of it...

Well to be honest this is the first boat I’ve owned/restored, and one of the first vlogs I had ever done and I was more interested in the former than the later, but stick with it because I think I have got better over time.
