As someone has already mentioned, it’s based on Animal Farm by George Orwell, where animals take over and rebel against the human farm owner but it ultimately ends up worse than it was before. The song and lyrics might make more sense now 😊

The beauty of Ren is that even though the music sounds different, he is still telling a story. This song is much deeper than it appears at face value.
In the video, at 0:43, you can see humans being imprisoned by the animals, and on the wall, there's a reference to the book Animal Farm.
“Animal Farm" is a satirical novel written by George Orwell and published in 1945. The story depicts a farm where animals rebel against their human owners in search of a more just and egalitarian society. While it may seem like a fable about freedom and the struggle against oppression, the book is a scathing critique of totalitarianism and the corruption of power.
The story begins with the animals of Manor Farm, led by the pigs, staging a revolution. Under the leadership of two intelligent and articulate pigs, Snowball and Napoleon, they oust the human farmer and establish their own principles known as the Seven Commandments of Animal Farm. These commandments advocate for equality, collective work, and the absence of animal exploitation.
Initially, the farm thrives, and the animals are excited about their newfound freedom. However, over time, Napoleon, a cunning and manipulative pig, seizes power for himself and corrupts the initial ideals of the revolution. He gradually increases his influence, establishing an authoritarian regime and surrounding himself with privileges.
As the years pass, the animals face increasing hardships and witness their rights being systematically restricted. The pigs begin to violate the commandments, manipulating language to justify their actions and consolidate their control. Eventually, the animals can no longer distinguish the pigs from the humans who previously oppressed them.
The initial revolution transforms into tyranny, where the animals are exploited and subjugated by the pigs. The story culminates in a scene where the animals look at the pigs and humans sitting together at a dinner table, realizing they can no longer tell who is who. The struggle for freedom and equality becomes a sad reality of oppression and inequality.
"Animal Farm" is a powerful allegory that criticizes totalitarian regimes and warns of the dangers of abuse of power. The book addresses themes such as propaganda, manipulation, corruption, and the fragility of freedom. Its simple and accessible narrative has made it a literary classic and a relevant work in any era.
Now, armed with this information, go back to the beginning of the video and observe the graphic references, especially the pigs, which take on a different meaning in the narrative.
Animal farm on the wall for the theme, Clockwork orange for the outfit, many classic film elements mixed in, callbacks. The amount of thought and planning not just for the verses but to set up the one take video. Oh and "dogs playing poker" and animals eating animals in the end but when the animal was butchering there was a human head hanging. There is so much going on in this one. He's not going technically lyrical he basically made a short film

As mentioned The song and Vid are related to George Orwell's "Animal Farm" Which I think you know, was a giant Satire based on the Russian Revolution. Relating to Animal Farm, the biggest clue was the black black writing on the white wall. It's the 7 rules the Pigs came up after overthrowing the farmer and taking over the Farm.. I watched Ren live, on Twitch, doing a reaction to Knox Hill, doing a reaction to Animal farm, which as usual was spot on Ren was making comments as he went along. Ren agreed about animal farm, and just as Ren said the idea is we are all animals. and are led easily, The Pigs in the vid represents, Napoleon & Snowball from animal farm. Napoleon Represents, Stalin, Snowball all the other Russian leaders.. The last scene in the vid, Ren represents the Fascist leaders. and with the 2 pigs just behind the rest of the animals form a triangle. Ren said the pigs are the generals representing Authoritarian rulers. BTW Ren said the dogs playing cards scene is a direct reference to the famous dogs playing card picture. He said we took a lot of trouble to copy the picture as best they could. even the hanging light. 😊

The thing about Ren is most of us are seeing an artist in reverse. Most musicians when their first songs come out we grow with them. Hi Ren and similar songs from Ren are not what he is, but what he is capable of.
Everything Ren does, in my opinion, is a masterpiece. No specific genre can describe his art, and there is a story in every song he does. Thanks for supporting him.
If you as a singer want to react to singing, this is not the song for you. I would try ”How to be me” or ”Chalked outlines” live with Ren and Chinchilla.
And if you really want singing, pleeeease do Chinchilla ”Fingers” live…😍

Wow I believe you are the first to ever mention the 7 D.S., that which makes us human, some are more human than others. As Mr. Andersson mentioned, would Love to see you react to "How to be me". Strong singing technique and serious harmonizing. Brings out some strong emotions. I believe they really put there all in the live video version. Will not be a waste of your time.

Grin! It is what you get from it. There are many facets to Ren. The only genre I havent seen Ren do is country/western..... No one knows what the future holds though. May I suggest you react to the band he is in "The Big Push" or some of his other non-band busking. Maybe some collaberations he has done with other artists. Never know what you will discover. The Ren Rabbit Hole is long and wide and deep and will lead you to other artists you may enjoy, too.
Love the reaction, seeing anyones face when he sings mary had a little lamb is class 😅 Id love to see you react to Ren and Sam Tompkins - earned it/mans world/falling, its honestly incredible. You should check out Man of the year by Dance Gavin Dance. This song will send you on a roller coaster ride and has some amazing vocals.
I think there has been a theme in Ren’s cinematography…we saw the Pig Butcher in “Hi Ren” and “Sick Boi”. In “Sick Boi” he very clearly shows the Pig Butcher juxtaposed to his therapist. I personally believe that this is how Dark Ren (in terms of the dichotomy expressed in “Hi Ren”) sees the medical professionals. Both songs have demonstrated the bifurcation of his psyche. I think that “Animal Flow” is told solely from the Dark Ren perspective. This is how Dark Ren sees the world…cynical and cutthroat. It could just be a song, separate from all others. But I don’t think so. He is using these animal masks as a common recurring theme in these recent songs, and I think that’s intentional to make sure the viewer knows they are all part of the same opera.

This is best understood by the well read and the politically astute. It is difficult to decipher for people that avoid these topics or partisans Ren pretty much hates both sides sees them both as hypocrites who betray and corrupt themselves and others when they get power.

Good but not great tune. While he gets poinst for a different approach, I like Ren when he 's signing from a psychological point of view about an individual or a small group rather than a sociiological view of sociery as a whole......its all been done, but his individual vignettes are personal and unique.......plus Een should be seen only in jeans or a gospital gown......nit a silk outfit and a walking stick with cheap simplistic sets......this was almost too elaborate a production.....again, its great he went for a different vibe here, but to me its a good, not a great tune likw his other stuff.
