PEAK DCS! Counter-Insurgency Strikes in the F/A-18C Hornet

- Hey guys! Huge thanks to Oreo for creating this mission for us and the rest of the DCS F/A-18C Hornet squadron on the Spuds Buds Discord Server!
This mission is a change from our usual because it only had 12 pilots, all of them in F-18 Hornets and flying more of a counter insurgency or COIN type mission and we got to use some of the very rarely used weapons in the Hornet's vast arsenal. I for one had no idea how useful Cluster bomb units had become in some recent updates and that was awesome to see.
And I finally got a good trap on video in a mission haha! So that was nice!

Lol gear malfunction after cat shot is a euphemism for "oops I oversped my gear." 🤣
When you're at the outside of a four-man formation you have a longer distance to travel in a turn away from your aircraft. In essence you have to speed up to keep up, and probably why you feel like they're speeding up when they roll out of the turn.
"Camelot " is the actual radio call sign for the VFA-14 Tophatters. I was CVW-3 maintenance/logistics officer in the early. They were VF-14 then. Still flying the big sexy fighter!!❤❤
Spud in a F/A-18C is a perfect lunch time watch.
Great job Spud. I recommend on your Overhead break you give it a few more seconds after your lead breaks ( recommend 17 sec)and you were very long in the groove.

The one thing I am learning about DCS in my short time using it is that no matter how many times you tweak and fine tune your mission, DCS will do what it wants when it wants. Like that tanker just going on holiday for no reason. I am sure Oreo has ran this scenario a dozen times and the tanker AI worked just fine. Maddening.

Good to know other people are experiencing the GPS/INS bombing issue. Hopefully they'll get that fixed sometime so we can do older mission dates.

@@Spudknocker wow, that's so surprising somehow. I've been an f-16 player almost exclusively so getting to know the 18 is a lot.
@@therocinante3443 The 18 isn't scary, once you get to know her more she plays nice. The LITENING pod is pretty nice, I'd say it's better than the newer ATFLIR. The ATFLIR just doesn't have the clarity at range.
@@fangboston4997 F-18 is just too hands off for my liking where as the F-16 and the upcoming F-15E are much more hands on the controls.
@@ImperiumLibertas interesting that f-18 is more hands off. I've started looking at tutorials today, takeoff/ landing etc. I'm excited to start learning the fun stuff after some more practice!

About the CCIP issue, the Viper is the same, I just aim at the Steerpoint mark in the hud. TGPs go to Snow plow mode the second you switch to CCIP. Good mission!
I missed the fix for that though, in your second run the ATFLIR pod was on target. I really enjoyed watching you fly! Can't fly tonight cause I have a killer migraine.. hope to see more of this quality stuff.

Hate to ask here, but hoping for help. F18 carrier launch issue, mostly related to missions pre update. Seen a couple instances on new missions.
All AI planes crazy afterburner climb to 10k, ignoring all waypoint commands until done. Very mission breaking. Wastes fuel and forces following craft to chase it, rather than a leisurely rejoin. I've even seen this on Raven One M01, along with any tested mission I created pre update.
I've gotten this on two fresh installation of DCS on two computers. Can anyone test to see if they get the same AI results?
I've looked on the forums and even asked, but no answers yay or nay. Either somehow only I get it on two computers, or everyone is missing this is happening.

Je vais encore râler ;) mais étant français je ne profite toujours pas des missions et de DCS a 100% comme les joueurs de langue anglaise, et c'est dommage. En 2023 je pense qu'il serait possible de traduire plus de chose dans d'autres langues. Et ne me dites pas qu'en aéronautique la langue de base est l'anglais, ici, c'est un simulateur et non la réalité
