We know that the Pixel 7 costs half of what the iPhone 14 Pro Max does, but with Google's computational photography being so good, we thought why not compare it with one of the best. So, here we are! she always goes for the bright ones not considering details and proper HDR, I chose the pixel most often especially in the outdoor images

All portraits taken by pixel looks so natural and at the same time look like they were taken with DSLR and the edge detection on the pixel is just superb🤒👍
thats what I tought. Also the ultra wide pictures looked better on pixel because it kept more details on the shadow, so you could see the details on the builds better
After watching this video the conclusion is that " We are in era where we have to purchase all brand phones for situation/subject based photography" 🤣

Actual winner for me is pixel, with smaller sensor and half the price..it still holds with iPhone..u can easily see..the advantage of having larger sensor when it comes to the indoor shots .but wht surprise me is that..even with smaller sensor the pixel holds to it..
The bigger deal is, she was just choosing the brighter pics, since iPhone tends to overexpose.
The detail in the iPhone photos was just blown out often, and just "bright", and it was also highly artificial, like with skies, or skin tones
She already knew which was iphone and which one is pixel , and she only picked the iPhone images

I'm neither a apple fan Nor a pixel fan but the pixel 7 is generations ahead of iPhone. The color is more natural, the dynamic range is better. And yeah , brighter image is not equal to good image.

3:56 Dynamic range is actually poor on the iphone here, the highlights on the building outside are all blown-out.
*The iPhone is over-exposing to get that brighter look and then over-sharpens the textures....kinda reminiscent of Samsung's older image processing.* You'll see a lot of bright-spots in iPhone images wherever highlights are present.
That extremely controlled sun highlights, saturated skies and bright subject (shadows lifted) kinda gives away that the photo is taken from a smartphone.
*Pixel keeps it soft and natural like a DSLR without over-brightening the subject and highlights.* You can always use the dual-exposure HDR sliders on the Pixel if you want brighter faces.

You can always turn up the contrast on the GP7 Pro (or any Pixel) to make it look brighter, but on its own, it's going to capture the moment as is.
This video has made me realise that when it comes down to it all of this really is just personal preference.
I tended to disagree with her choices for my own reasons, but it's made me realise that I guess I need to buy a pixel because I chose the pixel's shot for almost every single one!

I have both these phones right now and i can tell you 100% that hdr is much better on pixel and if you have pets or kids go for pixel it takes much better pictures of moving subjects... Also it can get much closer to objects n flowers than iPhone for macro photography...
Did you take images as Raw format in iPhone 14 pro?
Just an observation, i think you use the iphone on a regular basis and therefore you are more inclined towards the way iphones processes images. I am a pixel user and i choose the pixel 7 image about 70-80% of the time. So i guess we subconsciously choose what we are used to looking at when the difference is marginal. But overall a great video !
that was my thought as well, i think she knew more or less which images were from the iphone simply because of personal preference. I do think the iphone was better but mot by much.
I come from a Huawei p20 and I chose iphone usually more than pixel but often undecided, so what does that mean...? ;-)

In a couple of instances you clearly chose the wrong image, and almost always in favor of the iPhone. For me it was about 50/50.

You seems to like a brighter photos for selfies & potraits. For me I prefer the pixel. Iphone selfies & potraits are a bit too warm & have a yellowish tint. That makes it a bit wash out. I dunno know..maybe ladies like brighter photos of their face..IMO.
It's all subjective but yea there were quite a few comparisons I thought the pixel 7 looked better I had the score much closer almost a tie if not pixel 7 the better performer 👌🏾

I find the contrast, and the darker shots much better than the full on, a bit overexposed shot from the iphone!
They should meet in the middle and then it would be perfect. But how does pixel do with sunset images? Shooting directly into the sunset sun? My Huawei p20 does that great, colourful but warm colours and not too much lens flare...or what is it called vignettes? Don't know, the circles and dots...

Most, not all, of the pictures were very close. Either would be more than OK. The problem with this test is you were choosing the best looking, most appealing picture. I say that is a problem because I really want a picture to capture reality. I want the picture to represent exactly what I see with my own eyes. Not enhance it or make it look prettier or more colorful than what it really is. Computer enhancing or editing is OK for high school yearbook pictures. But not desirable for real life.
Unless photo editing occurs on a laptop, most photos are viewed on phone camera screens. Samsung phones have amoled screens. So i like this video as the photos are compared using a common screen.
Pixel 7 is NOT mid range phone
I picked pixel 7 every time apart from once, typing this in 14 pro max might get the 7a as a second phone for camera
I personally don't like wide angle at all anywhere, it distorts everything and looks strange...

The result is completely subjective and is not based on objective measurements. Of course, it doesn't mean that the brightest is always better.
When I was watching the video and keeping score, the result was 14 Pixel 10 iPhone. It's completely subjective.
It's a personal choice I agree with you but for me Pixel shots looks more natural and the dynamic range is better in pixel.

The iPhone photos were in fact less detailed, less accurate with artificial coloring in skies and skin tones, and most importantly, they were blown out and faded in many areas.
She just identified the iPhone photos and just chose that. Keep in mind she took most of them, and was a part of it. Also, she was obviously rooting for the iPhone to win.

Also, the sensor is 1/1.28" vs 1/1.3", that is negligible. For reference, iPhone 14 (non-Pro) has 1/1.9". That is "smaller".
The Pixel 6a, even at less than half-price will take better photos than an iPhone 14 Pro Max in every scenario and iPhones don't ever win in any real blind camera test. Its just hype driving people to praise iPhone cameras, or the normie preference of overly bright photos.

I'm not an apple or pixel fanboy but to me the pixel images were closer to natural, the iphone brightens and make the images more saturated which appeals to some people, i prefer the more realistic look from the pixel for some of the images. In low light and portrait i think the iphone was better though.

pixel is definitely better. Iphone is better when it comes to video, but the pictures' sharpness and details on pixel are better.
It should not be " which photo is look better " but should be " which photo is closer to actual scene " and pixel 7 capture better what our eye sees..
I think compare pro version with standard - was wrong. Pro version need compare with the same one - Pro.

Pixel 7 has better colour accuracy and hdr in almost all the pics. iPhone is too bright and washed out in some scenarios. Look at the sliver shine on the skin on the iPhone pics which look so unnatural whereas pixel keeps skin tones almost like seen with naked eyes. Even the sky in iPhone is too bright hence artificial. So pixel is a clear winner
