Don't forget that you can actually also adjust the effect on the footage for the iPhone even in post which will allow you to get a more natural kind of look for your footage because the cut out usually ends up lining up better and it ends up ignoring straight hairs and such

Often times I actually turn on cinematic mode but set the simulated f-stop effect to like F5 and sometimes all the way down F9 because the colors comes out way better and you can also have that less over sharp look from the Cinematic mode not have to worry about the ugly cutouts not matching up issues
The scary thing is that , yeah the Red looks better and that’s only cause I’m watching on my 60inch 4k TV but at 1000 v 30000$ it sure as hell isn’t 29 times better than the iPhone and when you consider the flexibility that an iPhone camera system gives you for making movies and picture easily…well..I’ll take the iPhone and spend 29k on a good international exotic holiday,which I would film and shoot all on the 14pro😎
RED isn't 15 times better than a $2.000 camera either. But the possibilities with a RED is endless where it's limited on an iPhone. But I get your point and I'd much rather see an iPhone compared to a $1.000-$1.500 camera setup. iPhone would still loose big time in most categories - but at least it's within the same budget.

Iphone's bokeh in cinematic mode might not be noticeable on smartphone screen, but one can definitely find it unnatural on bigger screen. And that action mode kills the bokeh, so a gimble + cinematic mode is still best mode for 30fps.
I would choose a mirrorless camera, like the Fujifilm X-H2 instead of either. With a super 35 (aka APS-C) sensor and wide aperture interchangeable lenses, it can shoot 8k and has great colour science.
Red definately looks great, but is it worth a 29k surplus, would be no to a regular person. 1000 dollars for a phone camera to be compared with a red, is just dope, Its a great value 😊 thanks for making this happen

I think for the action mode shot you could've just left it on cinematic mode because it already has sensor shift and OIS which would've been good enough and you would have gotten a very stable 4k cinematic shot. Action mode is only used when it's like really bumpy. For example when you're running quite fast and filming.
Man those cases are amazing!! Not only does it save your phone but it also puts it back into the case on its own when the phone comes flying out of the thing! 🤔
to me both looks great, but a cinematic camera it insane, because you can use 100 different lenses, to create every type of video, im sure it performs 10x better in low light, compresses video to a fraction of file size, and creates a dreamy backround that looks natural, and not artificial as it is on iphones. but price wise, ill use the phone X)

@@Tesla25173 yep, it’s still catches up with the latest iphone 15 features. but don’t expect too much in the difference of pictures from 14 to iphone 13-11. They’re almost the same. The 14 just gives a few details, pixels and color to it. But overall, the best feature of it is the video, cinematic and wide lens.
it's a little bit unconfortable the movement of the red camera but besides that considering the high gamma of options that allows in post production the camera shots the answer is: both works on different situations. red camera it's for cinema and search of more perfection on images. in case of a casual trip where you need really good images iphone works perfectly. greetings from chile, really nice video! :D

well, I think the iPhone surpassed the camera in terms of color grading in some shots, especially in cinematic Mode. But the camera is still better in terms of 8k shots and slow-motion obviously. iPhone has put some adjustments in the 14 Pro max, to find a phone with this quality is such a great thing fr.

There’s not even comparison between those two. Red stabilization isn’t bad at all.
If you screenshot and look at the cinematic detailing on action mode of iPhone vs Red, the exposure, contrast and bokeh is awful on the iPhone. You would be better off with the new Sony FX 30 if you were going for something in the cheaper price range which still gives you 4k@120p

Bro, I'm about to pull the trigger on the Pro Max but, could you tell me if 256gb will be enough or I should take the Pro with 512gb? I shoot CZcams videos primarily on Iphones just like you with the Filmic Pro LogV2 in 4k, and will be willing to make use of the Pro res thing as well. Do you think 256gb will be enough for that application? I found both around the same price here in a local shop.
if you are uploading it even the 128gb is enough and there are so many cloud services that you can use if you dont want to delete the original video.

for something that's a fraction of a cost I'm taking the iphone unless my job requires me to have a pro kit it's iphone all the way.
the only problem is that the iPhone cannot simulate gradual depth it's either the back ground is blurry or not so much it supposed to have a gradual blur like when a person is close to an object it's not supposed to just blur the whole thing out its supposed to blur depending on the distance if they can do that it would be awesome.
The gap is narrowing. If only we could dial down the HDR on the iPhone it will be comparable.

But, I am sorry to say, the comparison is not fair on the iPhone 14 Pro because the need to show the Casetify case does limit what could have been achieved with the iPhone.
You would get much better footage with the 14 Pro if you had added a cage, Beastgrip lens and a VND filter or just a Freewell case (which is rubbish) and a VND filter. Okay, it would not be a "naked" phone anymore but then again the lens on the Red does have a filter on it in some shots. Besides, one of the shots was 2.8 K versus 8K. Not fair. And it is not clear but is all footage from the Red 8K ? If so, then this comparison makes little sense. Or was the Red footage 4 K all along?
I watched the review first on my Mac but then I watched it on my old HD TV for a more accurate viewing. This because everything looks more beautiful than it really is on the screen of a Mac or, even worse, the tiny screen of an iPhone. The images from the iPhone look good on the screen of my TV set ( a Loewe) but do have a video look. The images from the Red don't. But, as I said before, the comparison is not fair.
I have a Blackmagic Ursa Broadcast G2. Its images are clearly better than the images from my iPhone 14 Pro. I will never delude myself with the fantasy that iPhone is a state-of-the-art camera. It's not. But if I can choose which camera to use then 8 times out of 10 I will shoot with the iPhone.
But those numbers would change to 10 times out of 10 if I had to choose between an iPhone and a Red V Raptor.
I would always choose an iPhone 14 Pro over a Red V Raptor.
The Red is too complicated to use, it is awful from an ergonomic point of view, more things can go wrong with a Red camera than with an IPhone, its interface with a Mac will not be as straight forward as it is with my iPhone etc.
And, very , very important: I can't fit a Red camera in my pocket.
I know, I can't fit a Blackmagic camera in my pocket either but the Blackmagic is much better than the Red from an operational point of view.
As for the price difference: The first pro camera I worked with was a Sony Betacam BVP 5. It was the very first model of that camera in South America ( I am from Brazil but live in London ) so its cost at the time was $70,000. The images of the iPhone 14 Pro are better than the images from that $70,000 camera.
It's all a matter of perspective.
It will be all iPhone ten years or so from today . Apart from high budget productions.

Very good observation . The comparison is not far because the Red camera was at its best set up whilst the iPhone wasn't. A Beastgrip lens and/or VND filter would have made a big difference.
