very true. I used to love most of these tricks when I was skating, just because they were incredibly difficult, and the difficulty of a trick made it good. I guess things have changed now. pretend to hate something because you can't do it, seems to be the new norm.

90% of the time they are. If you cant catch a trick at waist height, it's ugly. Down gaps this is obviously different since you have more time to catch but at least 90% of the time, they look terrible on flat in a line. You also really cant do one onto a ledge unless it's really short

They're impressive but not exactly graceful. I'll still give props if I see someone in a park do any kind of laser but in a pro part, it's just kinda 'meh'.

I'm really amazed by how much has changed since I use to skate (late 80s Thur the 90s) don't do these tricks, don't skate goofy foot, don't carry your board this way! Never when I use to skate did I hear anyone complain about stupid rules or skater norms!

That’s my point though, you *could* just call it an already existent trick with a slight variation or, you can just call it a different trick. Double kickflips *are* just kickflips with another flip but that doesn’t mean it’s not a different trick.

I can varial flip and do a lot of no complies but I understand the way I do them, i'm in the 99% of people who do them badly so they're shit. It shouldn't be next to impossible to make a trick look good. And no complies, there's no saving those. I do them as well as anyone and still hate them. On the flip side, i can't tre flip or hardflip but I think they're sick. Not hating on those.

I agree somewhat, however I'm pretty sure Rodney Mullen used rapid monster walks into an hugely popped impossible (nosehook impossible maybe even?). The way he did that line was pure magic. He even manages to speed up using the monster walk. For that reason alone, monster walks can be made to look great. It just requires speed and a certain fluidity to the motions. Otherwise it just looks like you can't skate lol. But a lot of tricks look bad when done poorly. I mean, the best no comply tricks have you step off a fraction of a second only, not several milliseconds so everyone notices.

Uhmm.... I would disagree with both no compy tricks and late flip tricks being hated, because both are wildly popular at the moment. No complies are a literal trendy trick now. Probably because they are beginner friendly. I'd say a more universally hated trick is the heelflip. I don't think I know that many people who love to do heelflips over kickflips. I'm also surprised 'early grabs' didn't make the list. By the way, people hate pressure flips and late flips because they're actually pretty hard (to do right and controlled). Good pressure flips _CAN_ be popped super high actually. The reason why people hate on varial kickflips is simply because it is 'only half a tre flip' and therefore screaming 'beginner skateboarder' to those who do varial kickflips instead of a tre flip. A lot of people also lose varial kickflips because they never do them once they got tre flips down, meaning a letter in skate ergo they hating. A lot of these things can be related to people just generally being bad at a trick. Although, I can see how people would think of pogos as looking bad, but anyone who's ever landed a back to back carousel freestyle trick understands doing them well actually takes some mad skills, not to mention how truck stand variations provide for plenty of room for creativity. But I'm guessing the core skater just doesn't care too much about freestyle skating, which is fine.

Personally, the reason why I didnt like the varial kickflip for a long time was because it reminded me when I was starting to skate and everyone tried to learn a flip trick. Some people would just throw the board crazy to see what would happen, thus a varial kickflip would come up. Nowadays lots of people do them on purpose and its kind of cool.

I agree. I feel like this is mostly for skaters trying to develop a honed unique style, and that basis relies heavily personal opinion. I enjoyed the compilation and his detailed analysis with regards to the rapidly progressing skate culture.

I like boardsliding on ledges. Kinda harder depending how long the slide you attempt. It is actually cool if you do them on long ledges. I can see why skaters hate variels especially fakie variel flips because either when playing SKATE someone can get you on that trick, or worse if you try fakie variel flips in a game of SKATE you may snap your board.

All the tricks on this list are one of my favorites. Especially flamingo's. If someone is hating on a trick, he probably is trying to do it and failing. (The only ogly trick is pogo, but clean pogo, the variation of it ate amazing)

All these tricks are dope , i love when the motion of the board is weird , it feels like a glitch or an optical illusion.
Dolphin flips are cool i wanna learn how to do it
I hated varial kickflips once I got 360 flips down because my muscle memory changed. All of the sudden varial kickflips became this finicky flip that I always seemed to overflip by a half, or over rotate by like 20°
Meanwhile I could stomp 360 flips over and over like a robot, like I USED to be able to do with varials.

for seasoned, veteran skaters... watching an intermediate or beginner skater do a varial is essentially like watching them do a "sloppy, not-quite-there-yet" tre flip... which is fine. they can still look cool to people who don't know anything abotu skating, and sometimes that's all that matters.
