The earbuds thing is dumb some people skate to release and get away. Just because they are sharing the park doesn't mean they want to socialize nor does it mean they have too. If they are minding their own and not blatantly getting in the way then let them be. Skating is skating.

I think helmet and protection shouldn't even been a debate. If you want to avoid major injuries I think you got the right to do so, brain damage, fractured head and broken teeth isn,t really something you want to mess with. If you want to take the risk, and not put a helmet, its fine if you like the adrenaline rush of it, but don't judge people who just want to have fun on their board without worrying about major injuries.

Think of it like this, you'll always be trying something you're not used to and comfortable with. And if you're progressing those things will only get bigger and more uncomfortable. Falls happen when least expected even when you're in your element or zone. If you fall in a way that hits the head, you're already bailing in a way that's uncontrollable. Helmets mean you won't loose weeks of sessions recovering from concussions or worse injuries. If you get a bad enough head injury you may never be able to skate again. Never take the helmet off while you're skating. Take it from someone who knows people with permanent disabilities from skate related head injuries. Helmets will eventually be widely accepted even in street skating. Helmets are pretty cool

There's tonnes of recreational activities which can also be sports, skating is no different - it doesn't need to be a discussion with other activities, surfing, cycling, driving etc - all things that can be done for fun or sport... The helmet / pad debate. At 52 if I slam with no pads, I'm out for a while and can't skate. With pads, I injure less and recover quicker = more skating and less time off work not earning! When I slammed without a helmet - 3 months concussion and I genuinely remember very little from those 3 months. That's 3 months of my kids growing up missed. Salba wears pads, Vallely wears a lid. Been a skinhead (trad skin NOT bonehead for you Americans) since 88 and I don't get helmet hair! Always pad on vert but that poses the lowest risk as the transition is so big, you just slide - much nicer than 5 feet onto concrete. As a kid I wore wrist guards only as I kept spraining my wrists.

If you look at those gymnastic performances (I don't know the names; moving around on the beam or a horizontal pole, dancing with a sash or ball, etc), no-one is forcing a scoring criteria on it. You could realistically freestyle them too and they are considered as sports.

The thing about wearing a helmet is, people can potentially just trip and die anytime anywhere just walking around on flatground if they take a nasty enough fall right to their dome. So should people be wearing a helmet every time they step outside to take a walk? Skaters don't wear helmets or pads not because they are trying to get an adrenaline rush from the danger factor... it's because landing on your head is just not a significant risk. In fact, skaters are probably even LESS likely while skating than average people are just walking around to have some horrible fall where a helmet would save them, because skaters while skating are CONSTANTLY thinking about and maintaining their balance, while every possible person walking around anywhere is not necessarily focusing on and being ready to recover their balance should they trip or take some sort of stumble

    • @justinmusicandskateboardin9282
      @justinmusicandskateboardin9282 Před rokem

There is also the factor of pads actually making things MORE dangerous potentially, because it gives people more confidence to try more and more dangerous things because they have the illusion of being more protected. Not wearing a helmet keeps people grounded and not hucking themselves off things they know they aren't ready for

I'd prefer he both gets to skate and does not have all the problems I have from having to replace both kneecaps. Don't like the look, it's fine, that's why skate paints are so baggy. Wear your pads under your pants. But use your pads and helmets when your pushing it. Skating has history now, and learning from history is good thing.

***Opinion*** (sorry for the mistake I speak French)
1:earbuds are ok, as long as it's not too loud (you should be able to hear other people). Music can really boost your mood in a skate session.
2:designers cloth should not be skated, they are ugly, useless and not practical.
3: skateboarders can be sponsored by any company, money is money and if you are not interested in the brand that is sponsor, just don't buy it.
    4:yes it's a trick, and it's really cool.
5:the brands probably get their products from only a few factories and better or worse product is just a mental thing.
6:yes it's a sport because it's in the Olympics, you sweat, you can lose weight, you work with your body and wikipedia says it's a sport (and they never lie😂)
7:you can cross pinch your grind, it's just a way to make them easier and they are not feeble grind.
8: gatekeeping shouldn't be a thing people can see if your a real skater but poser are not skater, they are on another group.
9:just invent a name for the trick if you argue or do it in skate 3 and check the name of it😂
10:pads are a bit too extreme but helmet should not be hated. The "cool danger" of skating should not be glorified. If you don't wear pads the worst that can happen is that you scratch your knees or elbows but If you don't wear a helmet, you could die. Plus, for the "non-cool" factor of a helmet just depends on you, I have one (no shit) and it got like 100+ real skate stickers that I got overs the years so you really just have to customize it to make it look way better and people will stop bothering about it.

I only started skating in 1988, so I haven’t been in the game too long. But my two cents is that one of the things that makes skateboarding awesome is that it can be whatever the individual wants it to be. Beyond basic etiquette when you’re skating around other people, I don’t think anything else really matters. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but that’s all it is. Just an opinion. My opinion: shut up and skate.

Wear what you want to skate, even skate brands can be pretty pricey these days, as long as you're happy to tear up your expensive clothes when you slam what is it to anyone else, i generally wear old stuff to skate🤙
Nosegrind and Crooked grind are 2 different tricks
Skateboarding is an extreme sport 🤷‍♂
Cross pinch is just people doing sketchy grinds, people who nail the tricks properly will stand out 🤙
I wear pads now i'm older, I have taken a few too many blows to the head over the years and working in stores sucks with the injuries that come from skating, that and i have bills to pay, the gear keeps me rolling with confidence and i actually push it harder because of them 🤙

Okay by that logic nothing is a sport you can play basketball and not keep score little kid events do that all the time with the everybody's a winner attitude which I hate but that's a different topic you can play hockey you can play soccer you can play literally anything just for fun nothing requires a scoring system I use to play basketball just shooting hoops and such with friends not caring about scoring at all by that definition nothing is a sport because nothing nessacarily needs a scoring system the only time a scoring system is needed is if you want a winner but if you're just doing it for a winner and not because you just enjoy doing it then you really shouldn't be doing that hobby in the first place

Bruh we have transparency mode nowadays we can definitely hear if we choose to and since when have skating been all about rules? and gatekeeping like this is one of the reasons why skating is dying, its enough that people are scared of going to skateparks let alone showing that they are correct on feeling that way. Do what you gotta do, its about you, and like John Hill said "who needs approval from assholes"
