Experiments with one of my previous projects: (bit.ly/H2OExplode). I was blown away when I tried filling up a balloon, and it floated up to the ceiling!
Project History & More Info:
About 2 years ago I tried filling up balloons with HHO gas from the water-splitting generator I made in a previous project. I was amazed to confirm that when I tied it off, it floated up to the ceiling just a helium balloon. This sparked an idea, and you know exactly what it was!
I thought it would be fun to tape a fuse to the bottom of the balloon, light it, and run away.
Of course the bigger I filled the balloons, the more energetic the concussion wave, and the louder the sound.
You can tell by the sound of the reports, that these balloons pack a powerful explosion. The noise could be heard reverberating around the neighborhood, and sounded like large cannons going off.
We did this experiment on the 4th of July, because while most of our neighbors are awesome and supportive of these experiments, there is one who always calls the police.
I figured there was no way they could be justified in complaining about explosions on the 4th of July.
Now to emphasize safety here, I can't suggest this is something you should try, but if you do it anyway, make sure you use EXTREME caution, and be prepared for the police to show up.
I have seen pictures of accidents where balloons filled with oxy-acetylene gas accidentally went off with static electricity and blew a mans truck apart, sending him and his nephew to the hospital. While I haven't experienced that effect myself, I am encouraged to use as much caution possible, to avoid a trip to the hospital.

Baltazar Almaraz A very long time ago on a lovely New Years night after going through all our fireworks we wanted something with a real BANG... So one of the drunks decided to fill a trash bag with fuel from a welding torch. Then once it was about half full they tied it, and trailed lighter fluid to it. I stood at the door of their house, maybe 20 feet away, and I got knocked back almost. Their family photos had all fallen and we even knocked out power for a few minutes... Me and my Dad left and right when we were leaving the police were showing up.

In high school our shop teacher was a bit of a pyro... He filled a bicycle tire with it and set it off with a piece of fuse. From 50 feet my ears were ringing.
He blew up a charged car battery by shorting it out using a long cord tied to a wrench. My ears rang then too!
Both are very very dangerous and should not be attempted as serious injury or blindness could ocurr.

I love that this fuel is environment friendly!(Compared to normal fuels we use in cars) Now I can just blow as many baloons as I want and I dont have to feel bad about it!
I actually had an idea for using hydrogen to make balloons so i won't have to like, buy helium which is getting more and more rare thus getting more expensive. Though, I wasn't gonna use them to blow up, I was actually gonna use them to make one of those really high altitude balloons with cameras to send up into the sky near space!

Hey Grant love the video. You shouldn't cut fuse with scissors though, the friction can cause it to ignite. You should cut it with a knife or razor blade instead.

You should use the fuse as the string to hold the balloon. As u light it it will float away and burst in middair.
So was it the Mylar (versus the latex) that made the reaction big enough to shake the windows? Or was it simply the size of the balloon?

Little tip for you: super glue a small piece of incense stick to a small piece of fuse and voila! time delay fuse. You can use a lot less fuse and adjust the time easily by using longer incense 😉

Grant you can produce flying balloons which are more safe and flying more efficiently if you filled them only with hydrogen gas instead of filling them with explosive mixture and then you can enjoy more i think and more safely if you want to sell you balloons
you could use this gas to make an awesome potato cannon, no more worrying if the mix of hairspray to air is right, this stuff will blow every time!!
