In this video we showcase Ushiro Geri, also known as "back kick" or sometimes "spinning back kick" or "turning back kick".
This kick is often called the most powerful kick in martial arts. We demonstrate how to execute the kick at a technical level, common errors, as well as various strategies on how to use this kick in a fight.
The kick shown in this video is the Kyokushin Karate version of the kick, but it's usually largely identical between styles and usable in all sorts of contexts, including kickboxing, Muay Thai, MMA, Taekwondo and point-karate.

I luv this kick - it's short and sweet - and if done right - that's it.
We have this kick in Shotokan as well. Admittedly I’m not all that great at that, still need practice.
Awesome video and thanks for sharing the common errors also!
Glad you liked it 🙏🏻 Thanks for watching!
Perfect explanation thank you!!
🙏🙏
Awesome kick. This and hey - lights Out buddy 😉👍
Indeed! 💪🏻🤩
I just learned this kick and i been drilling it for a while thanks for the video, now i know what mistakes i been doing
Well done! I like the slowmotions in between to see better in detail
Thank you! Still working on improving video editing skills🙏🏻
Great applications!
Osu😁
Great done!!!
Appreciate it 🙏🏻
Literally The Most Useful and Practical Turning Kick That Taekwondo Has Ever Created😁🌄😇💖💯
My signature kick! It's cool that you do one of the combos I do but I never used this as a counter. I need to work on error #2 because I do that alot.
Are there other was to get more power in this kick? I wanna be able to push people back far with this just like Kevin Belingon did to Andrew Leone on One Championship
Nice!👍
It’s hard to say without seeing your kick, but provided you are not making any of the 4 errors listed in the video: make sure you are totally committed with your body weight in the direction of the kick.
You can try it with a tree or brick wall (slowly and carefully of course), if you are landing the kick and involuntarily falling backwards, then it’s wrong. If you’re doing it correctly you’ll end up just stopping in place.
Other than that just keep practicing the kick! Get it faster and smoother little by little 👍
Excelente!!!
🙏🏻😊
I was thinking of a turning side kick 🤔 but had to remember you said "back kick" which is similar but not quite the same technique that usually confused for being
I only do turning techniques when I miss other techniques or in combinations, I like doing this one after a roundhouse, it's good against dudes that like leaning back against head kicks or that just square up a lot against low kicks.
Awesome explanation. 👍
Thank you 🙏🏻
Good explanation and demo, particularly with the 'common mistakes' included. This is an effective knockdown technique and very useful for us older and less supple fighters. OSU!
@@kevinwhitmill2599 Glad you found it useful! Thank you for watching. OSU👊
Nice one. Little bit tricky for the standard Karate but strong like a spear.
👊
rất tốt 😄👍
I like to set them up with a front hook to the head, body is already turning and hopefully they are thinking about defending the head.
Definitely :-)
You feint the hook, purposely miss it and go for the kick also if you want the kick to come a bit faster.
Nice. I love these perfectly synthetized explanations, but this time I think it was barely too minimalistic. A little bit more details would not be bad. Tank you tough.
Is there any particular aspect you thought were lacking more in detail?
Appreciate the feedback.
Step forward with back leg, cross front leg with rear on ball of foot to turn heel as you aim with heel, with legs already bent in kicking stance use momentum of the turn to launch any kick, back kick, side kick, crescent kick, ect.
Kyokushin combos. Other styles use it differently
Destructive as a counter
Very!
Sensei Benny the Jet's favourite kick to KO his opponent...he said this is the most powerful kick
For sure!
Dang the first and last ones are actually taekwondo techniques too
It’s all related!😄
Pretty dangerous kick on the user if the kick didnt land correctly. Easy to counter
How easy or difficult it is to counter depends on how well the person who uses it, sets it up :)
I prefer maegeri than the back thrust kick way effecient and faster to execute
@@brettcatublas2884 They are two different tools in the toolbox.
@@brettcatublas2884 I used to use a fake mae geri then turn it into back kick .
@@John-ob7dh faking is very dangerous in our dojo because we go all the way
One of the few Karate weapons that can be effective against a Muay Thai fighter. Are you guys Kyokushin?
Yes, Kyokushin 😊
Stupid comment... ENGAGE
Another solution for a powerful ushiro geri: "Be Craig Marduk!" haha
All along this video, i can see Ushiro geri used in an improper way. Ushiro geri is made for escaping and hitting pursuers. You shouldn't show your back to your opponent while fighting face to face. In fact, you should just avoid launching circular kicks, because a true Karate practitioner will just step forward and push you before being hit, and you'll lose your balance, falling to the ground. Those kicks work only in competitions.
That's why only Mae geri was used in a face to face in old Karate schools from Okinawa : Karate is not made for competition. What i see here is not Karate (cf : Gichin Funakoshi).
😂 Good one
Haha
