    In this video we showcase Ushiro Geri, also known as "back kick" or sometimes "spinning back kick" or "turning back kick".
    This kick is often called the most powerful kick in martial arts. We demonstrate how to execute the kick at a technical level, common errors, as well as various strategies on how to use this kick in a fight.
    The kick shown in this video is the Kyokushin Karate version of the kick, but it's usually largely identical between styles and usable in all sorts of contexts, including kickboxing, Muay Thai, MMA, Taekwondo and point-karate.

    My signature kick! It's cool that you do one of the combos I do but I never used this as a counter. I need to work on error #2 because I do that alot.
    Are there other was to get more power in this kick? I wanna be able to push people back far with this just like Kevin Belingon did to Andrew Leone on One Championship

      Nice!👍
      It’s hard to say without seeing your kick, but provided you are not making any of the 4 errors listed in the video: make sure you are totally committed with your body weight in the direction of the kick.
      You can try it with a tree or brick wall (slowly and carefully of course), if you are landing the kick and involuntarily falling backwards, then it’s wrong. If you’re doing it correctly you’ll end up just stopping in place.
      Other than that just keep practicing the kick! Get it faster and smoother little by little 👍

    I only do turning techniques when I miss other techniques or in combinations, I like doing this one after a roundhouse, it's good against dudes that like leaning back against head kicks or that just square up a lot against low kicks.

    I like to set them up with a front hook to the head, body is already turning and hopefully they are thinking about defending the head.

    • @SaikouKarate
      @SaikouKarate  Před 2 lety +1

      Definitely :-)
      You feint the hook, purposely miss it and go for the kick also if you want the kick to come a bit faster.

      Step forward with back leg, cross front leg with rear on ball of foot to turn heel as you aim with heel, with legs already bent in kicking stance use momentum of the turn to launch any kick, back kick, side kick, crescent kick,ect.

    Another solution for a powerful ushiro geri: "Be Craig Marduk!" haha

  • @Yeino
    @Yeino Před 2 lety

    All along this video, i can see Ushiro geri used in an improper way. Ushiro geri is made for escaping and hitting pursuers. You shouldn't show your back to your opponent while fighting face to face. In fact, you should just avoid launching circular kicks, because a true Karate practitioner will just step forward and push you before being hit, and you'll lose your balance, falling to the ground. Those kicks work only in competitions.
    That's why only Mae geri was used in a face to face in old Karate schools from Okinawa : Karate is not made for competition. What i see here is not Karate (cf : Gichin Funakoshi).
