Had razor not been weird about androgenous things I think putting the title on golddust and had razor cap the feud by beating him for it
For me personally, Goldust was a midcarder character, he was a great Heel and a credible IC champion. He was controversial, Bizarre, unfiltered and adult rated he was made for the WWF/E Attitude Era. He is the 2nd greatest character Vince Mcmahon ever created after the Undertaker. And in my opinion the character Goldust DOES deserve to be in the WWE hall of fame.
If it wasn't for Bookdust, Goldust would have gone down in history as a total failure.

Lol, are you forgetting the Vince McMahon character he created? Basically one of the greatest heel characters of all time. Also the undertaker character wouldn't have lasted past the New Gen era without Mark Calloway evolving it.
He did a phenomenal job. His character will live on forever. The comedy promos with Booker T are still some of my favorite WWF nostalgia

@@andrejohnsao7899 I remember Booker joked about that in an interview. He said it was great because they didn't have to wrestle and still got paid. They just filmed some 30 min - 1 hr worth of promos and they were done for most nights
Goldust made it look so easy I would’ve never guessed he was nervous doing his act. That’s how good he is.
He was so natural at portraying Goldust, that i thought that was his own gimmick. Im surprised to hear how much coaching he had gotten.
I was surprised he didn't understand he was copying Exotic Adrian Street. Even used his own wife as a valet.
In the beginning, Goldust's entrances on television would cut to 16x9 letterboxing - like a movie screen, and be shown with a different filter while golden confetti rained down from the ceiling. It was amazing.
I got to see it once in person. The golden confetti was little circles of thin gold plastic sheeting, about 1 inch in diameter - that was how they fluttered much slower than normal confetti. It was incredible in person and for a long time I had a few of those little gold pieces of gold plastic in the pocket of my winter jacket.

Back then I hated Goldie. I thought it was stupid and disgusting. Now 2023 I see it as amazing, groundbreaking and simply genius. Dustin deserves an Emmy .

I will say this that when Dustin ever officially retires, his Goldust RUN will be his ticket to the WWE Hall of Fame. He made the most of that character, and probably one of the few iconic and memorable characters in a crappy era of WWF wrestling (1995). Dustin is a legend.
I really wished they inducted him last year, since the theme was “Hollywood” it just made sense but yeah he definitely is a hall of famer

Goldust... the gimmick you LOVED to HATE back in the the day. He had me eating out of the palm of his hand when I was a kid. Expertly played, Dustin.

This is such a tough gimmick to pull off. I can't think of too many people that could make this work and he had massive heat with the fans. He was such a great worker in the ring though. I think Vince gave him and Dusty some of the toughest gimmicks because of things that happened in the territory days but they both doubled down and got over quickly.
“The bizarre one “ was quite the appropriate moniker for him. You didn’t know why Goldust was the way he was but you didn’t have to. It was actually more intriguing, not knowing.
The shock value was great and the way the character evolved was disturbing and kept people wondering how far it would go. I saw an interview with the Hitman and he recommended new wrestlers in the business watch Dustin because he thought he was such a pro in the ring. Dusty was about as charismatic as anyone can be and I enjoyed his matches a lot also.
Goldust was the last guy I can think of that got real heat even after the curtain being pulled back.

I'm still convinced the gimmick was a rib on Dustin, but he made it work.
Goldust and Booker T to this day is still one of my favourite tag teams
It only worked because of the time and place the world was in.
Also, because his wife, Terry, was UNBELIEVABLE!

Goldust was a character way ahead of his time yet could only really exist in the attitude era. Probably a lot of us watchibg then as kids/young men never fully understood him at the time, but for me he is a hall of famer.
I got a lot of crap as a kid for being such a Goldust fan. But it was just so bizarre and edgy that it was fun. Here was a character who didn't give a damn what he did. Now that's punk rock...

I remember the first time I saw Goldust in action. He was so different from ever heel I'd ever seen and instantly stood out. He was ahead of his time. Also, those Goldist Booker promos were legendary.
His character was HILARIOUS 😂. When he was being the Roc. During a promo video. Made me a fan

As a kid watching, i knew the character was "weird" but it made me a fan. His take as a heel and badass theme song sold me, and i remember getting a Goldust figure for Christmas, one of the best toys i ever gotten lol. I hope Dustin gets induced to the hall of fame cause no one could've pulled off that character, cause it was way ahead of its time!!!
The Goldust character was unique and ahead of it's time. Dustin deserves credit for doing it well, no one else on roster during the the 90s could have performed it other than Dustin. No doubt he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.
Similar with Undertaker if another wrestler had that character it wouldn't of worked and definitely wouldn't of lasted

It was based on Exotic Adrian Street gimmick from back in the 70's.
A lot of wrestlers could learn from Dustin. A true professional. He knows it's a work. He knows he's playing a character.

I always loved the comedic element to gold dust. His butt bump move, his Irish whip, fall on the ground and face slap move, his taunt, it was so much fun
Wether you like the gold dust persona or not no one can deny that Dustins character work was probably some of the best there’s been , if you think about his upbringing and how different it is from the act then that makes it even more special to be honest

The thing that Dustin showed above all is just pure commitment to a character and getting it right. And it was a one in a million chance to work. It also put something on the screen that needed less stigma and I think he was the man to do it. Dustin to me is one of the all-time greats for his characters as well as the longevity of his wrestling career.

Its really interesting how he was uncomfortable with it, didnt' get it at first, but still said he's gonna give this a try. Also not for nothing, the Golddust music might be the best WWF music of all time haha
I still listen to those songs (especially the one on wwe anthology) pretty regularly. There's a level in Skylanders Racing (or Superchargers Racing, maybe both) that's this golden pyramid Indiana Jones type thing and the song always makes me think of Goldust too.
You have to keep in mind that Dustin was raised to do whatever you had to do to take care of your family and pay the bills.
Amazing that Vince would propose this and even more amazing how much Dustin embraced the role. A truly memorable character and so important for the roster

Probably made it easier that he got to go back to his hotel with his wife Terri every night. A very easy snap back to reality.

The WWE was PG for the majority of its existence it was only TV-14 for maybe 6 years at most, that is a small amount of time when you are talking about a 50 year old company. Vince’s father believed that pro wrestling was family entertainment, everyone can enjoy it so had he been alive he would have been not very happy with what his son was doing. It is why Sammartino cut ties with them until he was inducted, he didn’t want to be associated with it. Had the nWo not happened it would have stayed PG.
@@andrewft31 Vince loves every horrible raunchy thing that era ever did. he was extremely proud of it and wouldn't have done it any other way. I just watched a clip of Golddust explaining that Vince came up with his gimmick and when Golddust ran his hands up and down another dudes crotch for the first time, Vince was absolutely ecstatic about it. this was well before NWO. Vince also clearly had no problem inserting himself in many such segments such as him trying to get multiple people to kiss his bare ass on tv, publicly cheating on his wife and making out with Dawn Marie on tv, trying to kiss trish stratus's bare ass on tv. if he was ashamed of it, he wouldn't have personally inserted himself into the show. he loved every second.

To be fair if it was done today the writing would be worse off for it and it would be very pandering. The character wouldn't last. It worked because of the time.

Goldust is a legendary character. Had it been portrayed by a wrestler without Dustin's pedigree it would've failed miserably. It was a fantastic gimmick at the perfect time.

When I first started watching wrestling. Goldust was one of the very first characters I hated. Dustin did a great job being a heal. Great to see him many years later giving interviews like this.
Sign of a great deal of faith, booking someone with a tough job and not only getting it over but also making it last, two examples Kane as the Undertaker’s brother and Goldust as the bizarre one. Goldust had some epic non wrestling and wrestling moments and pairing with Booker T was perfect. He also does a solid Spinneroonie.
This character was ballsy for its time. Highly underrated heel and Dustin was a great wrestler.

I watched Dustin Rhodes in WCW as a kid when he was “The Natural”. When I found out he was Goldust I couldn’t believe it
Dustin Rhodes was a fun wrestler to watch. Unique and silky smooth arsenal in the ring. The classic guy who works with the guy that draws the house.
As a kid watching from 2008-13, I liked Goldust. He was entertaining
His wrestling heel was one of the few that could be genuinely disturbing. He did an amazing job.

It seems like Savio had a lot of influence back in the day in that locker room. Dude was comfortable and willing to do anything to help others in their matches.

I really commend Dustin for serving the WWE for all the years he did as Goldust. Because as a young kid - I thought the gimmick was weird, lame and just not cool in any way. It was VERY funny - I have to admit that. But I believe Dustin always deserved better honestly, looking back.
It helped him to create his own identity and get out from under the large shadow of his father.
Dustin honestly made a character that was a jobber and kept gold around his waist for years. Never stayed at the top, but was always close.
His entrance music was 🔥.

Goldust is one of the best original characters in wrestling. Like the Undertaker his gimmick is more extreme, borderline absurd, but man did Dustin make it work. Goldust was the first wrestler I saw on a RAW back in 95 that made me stop changing the channel. The first one to grab all of my attention and get me to keep tuning in. My 8 year old brain had no idea what I just stumbled upon, but it loved it! For this reason and others, Goldust is a pivotal part of many of my wrestling memories. Nostalgia to the max. He and his run with the gold strap IC title are my very first memories of watching wrestling. 💛
I've read a bunch of the comments, but no one has talked about the work Goldust put in inside the ring. I watched him as Dustin Rhodes, and as Goldust, and he was/is by far one of the best in ring workers. I know there are others, but for pure ring work, the Rhodes family had "IT" Him, and Booker T had some of the best face time together.
He’s definitely one of foundering Fathers of the attitude era
Dustin is a very underrated wrestler in his own right. Even in AEW as an "old hat" he's adding new moves to his repertoire, doing great work. Would have liked to see his natural self as an alter ego to Golddust.

i stopped watching wrestling in about the mid 80s just because i was starting high school and i was out doing things and i was playing guitar and trying to be in bands and stuff, but just every now and then in the 90s i would catch an episode when my roommates would be watching. so i saw Goldust every now and then and mostly was just curious and confused about what the hell he was supposed to be? he looked like he was supposed to be an alien or something, but based on like one of those weird 70s glam rock era sci fi films. and he would come to the ring with like a sexy girl companion but then he would do flirty sexual stuff towards his opponents so i was like is he supposed to be gay or bi or is he just supposed to be mentally messing with their heterosexuality to throw them off their game? so i was just utterly confused what exactly the gimmick was. now to hear this, he was supposed to be a movie star! how the hell is your gimmick that you are a movie star if you dont actually have any movies?
People don’t understand how much heat and over he was at that time, I remember being at a house show at the cow palace, the type of shyt people were yelling on his way back to the dressing room. Was nuclear heat, Easily top 10 heels of all time
