      I might try to find some flats with black toe. I have seen them in another French ladys CZcams chanel, and they are really nice. My crocs are only for the garden, I then chose comfort over elegant. In the cold winter of Norway I will still chose warm over elegant too, I have my very frown upon seal skin boots, but I need them to keep warm in the winter.

    Great video. The keywords here are French elegance. Going to a prize ceremony, first dinner with potential in-laws, job interview at a fancy workplace, upmarket art gallery opening... these kinds of occasions. We don't have to be elegant all the time, but when we need to be, these are perfect tips. I have lived in France - outside Paris - and you are absolutely right.
    I feel that nowadays people are trying too hard to express their personality through flashy clothes. Elegance is not boring, nor is it taking away one's personality - it's letting your intellect, kindness and other qualities shine. But when you don't have those, it's true that the clothes need to do all the 'shouting'.
    Keep up the great work.. Loving your videos so far 🙂

    Heels are not inherantly sexual and directly reminding people of a h**ker just because they're tall and skinny... You keep repeating that, however personally I find it's similar to the whole "tattoo's are unprofessional" thing. It was a view very old fashioned and irrational... More like a generational trend that has died. People don't view plain heels that way anymore especially if they're nice leather, suede or other luxurious materials. Or nude heels are timeless... TLDR: Heels are'nt sexual just because theyre skinny and tall

    I agree about so many points, but I think there is a couple of warnings to underline. First one: classic is classy, but it always needs a touch of fresshness not to become old and a little boring, expecially if you're in your sixties and over. Second one, what you wear needs to be coherent with who you are. As an artist I feel the need to always have a "point of interest" in my outfit, may be just an unconventional jewel or a surprising colour in my very classic shoes or bag, for example . It might as well be anything else, but I need it. And you have to cope with your body, too. For example I love flats and ballerinas and wouldn't wear anything else... but I'm petite: if I wear too low heels with a formal dress I don't look elegant at all and seem to be wearing slippers. So sad but so true! 🥹 Thank you for your video, it's always a pleasure to have a nice talk about style, isn't it? 🌹

    • @carolk2299
      @carolk2299 Před 15 dny +8

      I'm 68, and I can certainly relate. I'm actually afraid of falling if my heels are too high! My way of coping is wearing a flat with just a hint of a heel - maybe one inch. I just bought a pair of shoes that have a heel of over two inches, and will probably save them for dressier occasions, but the heel that they have is a bit chunkier than most, and, therefore gives me a bit more confidence than a skinnier high heel would.

    • @FuchsiaFire444
      @FuchsiaFire444 Před 6 dny +1

      Classic isnt boring it is timeless. Thats why its classic. There is a difference between old frumpy and stuffy ... and classic. If you believe in yourself you dont need flashy. If you are very artistic and expressive it could be you dont want to express yourself as understated which is perfectly wonderful and fits your style and creative intelligence. Classic is understated and maybe understated doesnt reflect the freedom you want to express who you are. What is considered elegant does have a constricting restricting element to it as its associated with money status and certain restrained inhibited behaviour relegated to societal constructs and expectations. At the same time plastic carries a cheap image not just related to price but to its identity, and lack of innate value and beauty.

    VIVAIA shoes are superb in terms of comfort, and one can even wash them in a washing machine on their own of course. (One cannot dry them in a machine however… leave in a shaded place to dry). Most are made from recycled plastic (bottles etc), though they do not appear to be. Great shoes for feet healing from injuries, late recovery from surgery, bad bunions, etc. They are not THE most beautiful shoes, however I’m very glad these shoes made your list due to their simplicity and perhaps also to give those who can’t worry only about the appearance of their shoes an extra option… (with your mark of approval). PS VIVAIA doe shoes and boots come in many colors, which is “fun.” PLUS EASY TP SMASH INTO A SUITCASE without any worry about damaging them!

    Just found your channel. Love the ideas in these videos. Re: Vegan shoes - Vegan shoes are typically made from plastic. I understand vegans believe we humans should not harm creatures for our pleasure (style, food, etc.). But vegan shoes (and handbags) put plastic into the oceans and landfills, so creatures are still being harmed. I hadn't given much thought to my beloved sneakers being mostly plastic. Food for thought. I will have to rethink the sneakers I buy. Thanks for your channel.

    • @lornam3637
      @lornam3637 Před 16 dny +9

      As a vegan I weigh up the impact of everything I consume carefully. My main aim is not to eat anything made from animals because that is very much a daily decision that could cause the greatest harm. In the same way I try to buy my food plastic- free. My shoes are a quite different matter. I usually buy my hiking boots every seven years or so. Even if they are leather they often have plastic elements (for example - the soles). I wear canvas pumps throughout summer and they generally stay looking nice for several summers. They are machine-washable too! It is a challenge to be plastic-free. I imagine even you find it challenging to find berries in cardboard containers or to buy all your daily groceries plastic free. I'm incredulous that people always zoom in on vegans and the plastic shoes they may, or likely don't, buy once every few years.

    I am very petite (5'0") and hardly ever wear flats, but the thing is when it comes to a heel, a platform is much more comfortable. I like it best when they are an inner platform (meaning covered with leather and built into the shoe rather than stuck on the bottom) and this type of shoe does not have the look of stripper heels which is an extreme look. I've heard this before about platforms, and if comfort wasn't an issue, I like the look of sleeker shoes better probably, but they kill my feet in a fraction of the time.

    What I noticed about your makeup is the LACK of it. I am 68, and completely agree with this. It took me years to get here. When I was young, I wore WAY too much makeup, instead of just accenting my natural beauty. Now it's just a touch of concealer for my under eye circles, some cream blush, eyebrow pencil, and lipstick. For evening, I add a touch of eye shadow and mascara. And that's it! Oh, and sunscreen moisturizer - I have worn this for 40 years! By the way, Vivaia shoes are lovely, and they make them in Narrow width, if you need them! How refreshing! If you are also a Narrow foot, you could try Vaneli, although they are a bit pricey! (I get them vintage). For sneakers, I always order a regular width, but one half size up, allowing for movement when you walk fast, and, because you can pull the laces tighter, this pretty much takes care of the width issue. If you were a narrow width and ordered narrow in sneakers, you would find that the shoes would fit too tightly with a sport sock. I keep praying that shoe manufacturers don't stop making Narrow width shoes. They seem so hard to find!

    I’m pretty sure she meant specifically the LARGE, clunky plastic shoe. If plastic were used in the style of any of the elegant style shoes she talked about, that wouldn’t matter, I’m sure she’d say. She wasn’t talking snobby here by naming brands that we should buy; she was just giving examples of elegant styles.

    Oh, gone are the days when I could wear, walk, Greek dance and even run in my beautiful high heels. Right up to my mid, late-50s, I was fine. But as an ex University librarian of 30+ years, I always wore low, comfortable shoes, as my library had lots of stairs and endless reshelving of books, so comfy shoes were a must. I'm now 62 and no longer working as I am riddled with arthritis, 🙄 vile lower lumbar back pain, and, in my knees and feet. I've just had two knee replacements, and I can no longer wear my beautiful shoes.💔😭

    • @keptthekisses
      @keptthekisses Před 6 dny +8

      I think she could do better with calling audiences to action in advocating for more sustainable options at affordable levels-there are mushroom, pineapple husk, cork, and cacti, based vegan leathers if you can find the brands doing it.
      However usually being that in the know when it comes to sustainable/ethical fashion is a sort of luxury in itself.
      And I assume a French woman living in Norway who can comment on fashion as an influencer is in a very different circle and perhaps even income bracket for standard of living than most of the average viewers of this channel who probably don't come from such places of tradition and relative standards of wealth.
      So while I appreciate her subtlety in confronting a lot of much needed issue like consumerism in fast fashion and it's environmental impacts, I think we all benefit from learning and more squarely addressing the root environmental and economic factors beyond just brushing into them with product and aesthetics as the core focus of the videos too.

    • @leamubiu
      @leamubiu Před 18 dny +2

      Bought my first pair of Vivaia flats a couple of months ago.
      My only real complaint would be the “no blister” pad at the back, which actually gave me the worst blisters ever. The fake suede inside produced balls of lint that made my skin blister within 15 minutes during my first wear; they even rubbed holes into the protective skin tape I applied, and dislodged bandaids. I advise applying some friction prevention cream (got a stick from the pharmacy), VERY GENEROUSLY, so that it absorbs into the fake-suede fabric over the first few wears.
      Another minus would be that there’s no genuine leather at all, and I find the interior of shoes much more comfortable and breathable with leather insoles and lining.
      But they definitely feel great in the front part, especially not compressing my bunion. The rubber sole feels a bit heavy, but absorbs shock pretty well. Now that they don’t skin my heel raw, they’re great flats, and very stylish ✨

    The rules are good, but they are a tad too conservative. The chunky boots can be part of a classy silouette, with the right coat and pants. And for the height of the heel, i think too low is as bad as too high. No one under the age of 70 would want to have Queen Elizabeth vibe in those 5 cm pumps.

      I think she did not refer to dog walking, or gardening (Crocs). That said, having worked for many years in France, their elegant shoes are designed for walking long distances, over cobblestone streets and up and down a lot of stairs. This means the arch is supported, the sole has discreet padding and the angle at ball of feet is not as sharp, even if the heel is high. The wonderful thing is that because they are easy to walk in, people walk A LOT. Taking elevators for less than three floors is considered morally lax. So, overall, you will see far fewer people having a certain body type.

      I live in Toronto and have noticed lately (since the pandemic) that sneakers, even chunky ones, are much more acceptable in the office. Even senior lawyers wear them sometimes to see clients, which I have a hard time doing myself. I wear sneakers to walk to work but change into more elegant shoes when I get there.

    2:58 I'm sorry, but if you really need to walk a LOT, these sandals aren't comfortable at all (maybe if you have flatfoot). These slide-on sandals are only good to pop in and out of the car, maybe walk a few blocks in the city. I get that shoes with thick soles are never going to give that chic look, but this is where it's not worth looking elegant, if you're feet are going to hurt at the end of the day.

    I do like 40s style platform shoes which have a minimal platform. Not sure if they are “elegant” but they seem elegant to me if worn with the right dress or slacks. Though Marilyn was steered away from her platform favorites by the very elegant (almost stifling elegant) Amy Greene. I love the black peep toe 40s “platforms”, and also summer reasonable platform sandals. And for fun loved Marilyn’s lucite ribbon platform sandals, and these were worn only for cheesecake photos. But definetly not the ones shown here. They look like hooves to me and very stripper.

Unfortunately elegant ladies will not look elegant if they wear stiletto pumps their young life because once they reach a certain age their feet will be mangled and not be able to work beautifully. So I disagree because in the modern world women are not just home all the time. Today they are working going to workouts, errands, etc. so thankfully there are so many styles that fit the occasion and women can look beautiful and elegant in a chunky comfortable sneaker.

    Plastic is not ok, but Vivaie (shoes that you just order and very happy because that) is ok? Vivaie is made of plastic bottle. From Vivaie offical site: "The double "V" and "A" represent our diverse shoe designs. The double "I" symbolizes the plastic bottles we recycle to produce our shoes. Combined, it's who we are-VIVAIA." Sorry, but no sense at all.😏

    • @keptthekisses
      @keptthekisses Před 6 dny

      I think it's fine to call out contradictions and am glad people are speaking out on plastic waste, or even acknowledge that budgets don't always make quality goods accessible for everyone. Obviously it's not good and natural materials would be priority, and maybe it's just her taking a "least bad" sponsorship the way many influencers want to support mental health but take on a troubled company like Better Health.
      But you have to acknowledge there's conscious choice and difference in the assessment when most companies simply generate fast, one-time use disposable apparel from raw materials vs. a company that makes a choice to center their operations around removing plastic from the waste stream at least once more to make their product while also possibly hoping to shift common industry practice.
      One is a conventional consumptive business model, the latter has potential to become what's called a regenerative business model if it has something akin to a circular economy business model, they may even make their shoes recyclable or reclaim them at the end of product life as well to adapt and repurpose those materials again to continue diverting waste.
      So I can imagine being able to extend discernment and consciousness into the notion of elegance being a fair consideration when overall it's about tactfully putting things into a more authentic relationship with signaling that more than meets the eye over flashy faddish choices.
