    Two weeks post distal bicep tendon repair surgery . This video is immensely helpful as I ponder the “what next” steps of my recovery. While I lift weights with some regularity .. my “lost” sport is downhill and back country skiing .. which I am very eager to get back to before the season ends. The luffa comments are priceless and well understood

    great video, so nice to see you getting back to normality.
    even though i have been boxing for the last few years i haven't lifted weights really since 2020 so i have started a push/pull/legs routine and working my way up as a whole as my body isn't use to weightlifting anymore.
    i use to do powerlifting years ago so hopefully the muscle memory will kick in quick!
    i almost considered bpc157 but i saw a lot of people say it did shit for them, some swear by it etc and i ultimately decided this is a route i didn't want to go down as a natural. the thought of having to inject a compound into the area just didn't sit right with me.
    considering my repair was chronic and being able to have my arm back to normal by week 8 only missing the strength showed me i made the right choice.
    i eat a very balanced diet with plenty of fruit and veg and have blood work done yearly and never been lacking anything so i trusted the bodies naturel healing process as i have never had issues recovering and this is my first real injury. i have been boxing/powerlifting since i was 22 and i am now 34 so i think i have had a good run avoiding anything until now.
    also what you said is right, anyone with this injury is human at the end of the day and it takes a certain amount of time for the bone to heal and there isn't much in reality that you will do to speed up that progress. for anyone who is going through this, just trust the process and let it heal.
    time will pass in the end, don't rush it.

      You’re on the right track that’s for sure! Your recovery seems to be going very well!
      Ah boxing!! That’s one thing I miss doing. Haven’t decided when I should jump back into it yet. I’m trying to find something online that recommends a timeline, but can’t seem to find anything. Have you?
      I know that if I go easy with the heavy bag I could probably get a hood sweat going without injuring the arm. I know that when I used to hit pads with my friend, if we didn’t connect sometimes and I overextended, let’s say with a straight or a hook, it would end up hurting my arm/elbow.. so probably won’t be hitting mitts right away.

      @Rawbchu Před rokem +3

      @@Dr.JayDMD I’ve read of professional boxers going back to some sort of bag/pad work as early as 8 weeks after surgery.
      My surgeon recommended to wait 6 months post surgery until I go back to boxing, I could probably go back in a months time but I think giving it up to the 6 month mark is the right way to do it.
      This injury is really common in boxing and contact sports so doing them any sooner than you have to just seems careless.
      Professional fighters can afford to risk the repair where as I can’t, as a labourer as well I really can’t afford to risk it.
      I am lucky I have been given all the light and easy jobs still 😂

    I wanted to thank you for sharing your journey. I am 2.5 weeks post-op following a left distal bicep rupture and your series is so helpful. I really appreciate your transparency about what you've seen vs. what your actually doing in this vidoe. If you do another video could you do an overall discussion about what you researched before vs. what you did? For example from surgical to nonsurgical to what you thought you would be doing vs what you actually did? Its inspirational seeing you throw up two 45s on each side while I'm barely able to hold a plate. Again thanks for sharing your journey!

      My washing machine broke 4 weeks ago. Handyman came by to fix, he ran a test load and then we lifted it up to change the water tray. I was basically in a dead left position unfortunately my left arm was at a slight angle. He was taller than me so the weight of the washing machine and water (which i didn't take into account) went to me. So on 3 I saw my forearm pop out (thought I dislocated it) heard 3 pops (snap, crackle & pop) I positioned my back against wall to push my forearm back into place, lowered the washing down and the rest is history. I was in between zoom calls as well so I was doing too much!

    Must be scary doing deadlifts again! I went down the peptides routes with oral BPC-157 since the first week of surgery and definitely think it has helped speed up recovery. Just past the 5 week post op mark and the arm feels ‘normal’ again (just weak) as in I no longer hold it against my body in 90 degrees when out of the sling - it relaxes into the same position as the other arm without tightness and feels completely fine doing all everyday tasks so feeling great about the recovery. Not sure how much is down to BPC-157 or me changing my diet completely and being super healthy though ha (probably the latter!). I’m in the UK and its the same situation here with peptides so there is always the risk you are buying something dodgy.
    Week 4-5 was my best week so far and saw lots of progress, even started doing some push ups, but taking it super easy with them as I know its very early.

    • @Rawbchu
      @Rawbchu Před rokem +1

      oral bpc won't do much for the repair, it would need to be injected.
      i almost went down this route as well, i would of gone for the oral as i didn't really want to inject it into the injury site but after lots of research the oral bpc won't do much besides helping your gut.
      trust the healing process and eat all those good veggies and your body will do what it does best for you :D

      I never looked into the efficacy of oral BPC-157. I should do more research 🧐
      Ah diet! If you watch my first video I mention it as an important aspect in this healing process.. but it’s such a sensitive subject that I decided not to make a video about it.
      But now that you mention it, I could still make one discussing what “I” myself did/ate to maximize healing and minimize inflammation.
      Happy to hear about your healthy recovery!!

    • @james-oz1sr
      @james-oz1sr Před rokem

      I read about studies in rats that it had the same results on MCL recovery whether administered orally, topically or via injection. I think the reason for this is that BPC-157 is produced naturally in the gut, hence why it is one of the only peptides that can survive in the gut and can be taken orally. I think the main problem is getting a good source when you live in a country that you can’t get it via prescription.
      There is a doctor Drew Timmermans on youtube that gives lots of information on it if your ever interested.

    Hey man! Hope your good!
    Just for I’d leave an update how I am, I have been pretty much discharged now from pysio.
    I would say my arm is 85-90% back to where it was at now 14 weeks post op, won’t be boxing until 24 week mark though.
    After finding a picture of my bicep before the rupture it looks pretty much the same as it use to, turns out I always had a 2 finger gap there, pretty much still is a 2 finger gap.
    My surgeon thinks I have a missed diagnosed partial rupture in my other arm which is why it looks slightly different, as I said it had a 3 finger gap.
    I see him again in 3 weeks to possibly have the other arm done as well, which would be fantastic.
    Look forward to the next video.

      Thanks for checking in! I appreciate it. I apologize for not being as active here. I have my big board exam for dental school coming up next week and I’ve literally been in the clinic studying all-day-every-day. 🤓
      So far everything is good on my end as well. Just a quick update. I’m starting to get the size back. Still notice some strength limitations, but I can’t, nor will I expect to, push anything close to what I was pushing in the gym just yet..

      great to hear from you, i understand you are busy and glad you are on the mend. i am in the same boat as you, i am not pushing anything. i was able to do a single pull up the other day but i am not confident enough to add that back into my routine, i will give it a few more weeks and keep doing controlled lat pull downs.
      i have always been convinced i had something going on with that arm as it always looked slightly different to my other arm, the tendon was always much longer even though the girth of it was the same. as i said previously i was told by a few docters the muscle insertion point to tendon was just different.
      even though i haven't noticed much difference in terms of strength etc i have always been careful when using it, i did something to it when i was much younger and much more chunkier, at the time nobody found a issue with it but as i lost weight i noticed the different in my biceps between arms. it would sometimes cramp up as well if i lifted anything heavy with it.
      my surgeon thinks i have a partial rupture and most partial ruptures eventually end up fully rupturing. i work on a farm/labourer by trade so i need both my arms functioning properly.
      i should of spoke to him about it properly sooner, but i was just focusing on recovering properly with my other arm at the time lol.

    I am 51 and i got injured doing squats and deadlifts at 29, gotten worse by a failed chiropractor, i still believe in lifting heavy and finally got back in powerlifting after PRP and prolotherapy at 47 where i reinjured my back knee and upper neck.
    After you been injured this lifting heavy lifting mentality must go away, now i change my training lifting lighter weights no more compressing my spine with deadlifts nor squats and i feel a lot better and remain injury free.

      Hey Shane!
      Appreciate the support!!
      Speed of muscle mass comes back very quick. Don't be alarmed about the size loss you notice once you're out of the initial cast. Most of this is glycogen and water volume. Once you start loading the muscle your body will replenish the glycogen stores and the water will follow causing a huge increase in volume.
      At the 10 week mark I was feeling really good! I prob wouldn't attempt any pullups (I'm a thicc boi) or preacher curls. But most other exercises were totally doable!

      Hey!
      I haven’t been on a dirt bike in a while! (Had a friend in high school that used to ride). But from what I remember when you’re holding the handles everything would seem fine. My only worry would be when you’re going into turns/corners at a high enough speed and lean into the bike causing tension on your arms.
      But I’m sure like anything else, you would take it easy and gradually work your way back in!
