As a 22 year old born South African, I do love the old Anthem. Dit klink meer na 'n volkslied wat met n mens se siel praat. ek verstaan dit ook. Ek verstaan nie die nuwe volkslied nie (Behalwe die engels en Afrikaans gedeeltes).

The new "anthem" is little more than a tribal chant!
I'm also born South African but i like the new anthem aswell,
it translates as followed:

@@frederikcronje5954 They sing that in their Black Anthem , but blacks don't act nowhere near what they sing about in their anthem , they don't want peace they don't respect life , they only thank God when good things happen to them , so what they sing is just words to them, they don't live by it at all, because if they did South Africa would be a completely different place, where we would have people from all over the World wanting to come live here.

With everything that the country stood for in the era that this was written in, music was and will still to this day be the way to let people stand together. Even though our country is in such a state, we can look upon our heritage and be bloody well glad that we are not at war like the middle eastern countries. Having said that, I still have the 4 verse "Stem van Suid-Afrika" in one of the very first printed FAK bundels. it is my pride and joy and honor to be a South African citizen irrespective of race, gender or language. We truly have the most beautiful countries in the world!

There was a famous British Lions rugby manager a few years ago who remarked about the Orange Free State: "There are no ORANGES, nothing is for FREE and the place is in a hell of a STATE!"
The Orange was Oranje in Dutch, so not the fruit. A British King (forget which one) also said, when looking at the South African Coat of Arms (Unity is Strength) during the Apartheid, ''There isn't much Unity here!''
