- Premier Aircraft Sales is a well-known broker and mod house in Fort Lauderdale, FL and the company's latest project is called the Premier Edition Dakota. It's a spinner-to-tail refurbishment of the Piper Dakota, a real favorite among aircraft owners and buyers who want to carry a lot more than a standard Cherokee can haul and go a little faster while they're at it.

I've had a Dakota for almost 2 years. I love it! Great climb rate, decent cruise speed, and carries quite a bit of weight. It is a shame Piper doesn't make them any more.
What they have here though, is as about close to a new airplane as you can get. What a beauty!
You can get a pretty kick-ass Mooney for that kind of money.
Very nice refurb project • Cheers from The Detroit & Mackinac Railway 🚂
Always loved the Dakota but wondered why Piper never did a retract version. It might have been a true 150KT airplane with the legs up. Also thought there was a Lopresti cowl for the PA-28 series that would a few more knots. If so Premier should have that as a option. Maybe that's only on the Archer but would be nice on the Dakota. Thanks for the video Paul!
Clean set-up, looks great.
I lust for that airplane. Did my primary flight training in an Archer and a Dakota. I just love that plane for the type of mission and pilot capability I have.
Now the Dakota is a true heavy hauler, Fill the seats, tanks and baggage and go! I wish they had offered that engine in the Arrow. The 236 was actually faster than the Arrow in many flight parameters, especially climb.
Looks like they do solid work. Good video Paul. Looks snug inside vs a 182 .
Thank you for the video.
A real 4-place airplane without the hassle of retractable gear. This is a great option for C182 shoppers...
Wouldn't you rather have a nearly new 182 for what they're asking for an old Dakota?
Paying $250,000 for a 40 year old Cherokee is going to bite you when you go to sell it.
I learned with the steam gauges, and have no problem using them! The goal, is to get in the sky without selling the house and losing ones wife! If I had that money, I would want a retract!

For the same price you could get a very nice used Malibu or Saratoga. Both of which I would rather have than a Dakota. I can say that with a fair amount of confidence because I currently own a Cherokee 235. Which I'm planning to sell once I get my instrument rating and buy a Malibu.
Agree. Saratoga for that money for sure.
90% of the people watching this video want nothing to do with retracts...
Pete Kuhns did you know that 84% of statistics are made up on the spot 63% of the time.
Don't disagree with anything you said. But as with any airplane, its not about what it costs to buy, its about what it costs to own. For the price of a brand new G36 Bonanza, you could go out and buy a nice King Air C90.Same amount of money to acquire, but significantly more to own the King Air.
amen. What S4 Aviator said...
The acceleration, is no joke. Right after I checked out in 8161X, I took off alone, or rather attempted. I decided to "goose" it, and my hat, along with my David Clarks, were in the back seat! So, my second ever take-off in the Dakota, was an abort! LOL
I like it...
Wow!
It is either the cockpit is really small or those two guys are really big. Seems very squishy.
question is there a stc for both vortex generators and stol kit
If they're going to do a complete refurbishment why can't they install a pilots door? Seriously, am I the only one that hates climbing over the passenger seat and the last one to leave the airplane?
Why not make a convertible while they’re at it. You are daft.
Is the pricing "just" for the refurbisment or does it include the aircraft?
Why is anything to the right of the center avionics stack (transponder in this case)? This is 2017! Is Cirrus the only company that understands ergonomics? Why put something critical so far away from the pilot?
Agree. Plus Piper panels are like giant walls you have to climb up to look over. If Humpty Dumpty were up there...
Take a look at that narrow ass cabin right there. See them shoulders overlapping? People especially rich people don't like cramped space! It should be wider by a foot or at the very least half a foot.
The wider the cabin the more drag and the slower the airplane. Dakota's cabin is a little bit wider than average for a 4 seat single engine at 42 inches. The widest single engine 4 seater is the Socata TB-20/21 at 50 inches. So there's nothing in this category that's a foot wider.
16 gph is steep for me I wonder pulled back to 55% what gph and speed you’d get? I like the idea of actual 4 seater that’s simple and climbs well!
Pulled back at 55% you’d get 9-10gph
Not bad, for sale?
Good report, thanks, with good video but terrible inflight sound. "Bad sound makes good video look bad."
Bruce, try to follow me here. This isn't fucking Carnegie Hall. A light airplane cabin is about 92 db, typically. The mics run through an intercom with noise squelch so the background isn't a constant hash. The headset mics have to be close to the lips to break that squelch. This is what is sounds like for the pilots. So give it a rest, willya?
AVweb Yes, and I am fully aware of the sound recording challenges inside and outside noisy aircraft. I have been a pilot and airplane owner since 1963 and in professional video and audio production since 1982. I appreciate that over time you’ve made progress in your video and sound recording proficiency. There are very few aviation headsets that are even marginally acceptable for good recording and that’s why production professionals do not rely on them. There are alternate solutions, both relatively low cost and very expensive (please explore the rental possibilities from professional sound recording equipment businesses) and I hope you will try to do better. I like you and your reporting and I want you to continue to succeed.
So...what would you do?
dallas johnson Maybe bring known better avionics headsets that are compatible, rig the longest practical shotguns, or two Coles Lip mikes.
Wait, so they're charging what? $200,000 for an annual?! They aren't even touching the airframe at all, but it looks pretty on the inside. Are they high? You can get a nice and far more useful Cherokee 6-300 for 1/2 that or less. Or better yet get a baron, Seneca, or 310 and actually have some ice protection, the ability to get somewhere fast, and cruise at altitude. And still spend 1/2 the money these guys are talking. What is wrong with the aviation industry? Do they really think every pilot is a millionaire that just wants to throw money away for fun? And people wonder why GA is dying...
20k annual
Nice airplane but unfortunately it isn’t valued above 80 to 90 grand at most at the end of the day. It’s only worth what one is willing to pay for it. Flying and owning your own airplane isn’t really practical unless you fly a lot and can write off some expenses. But I’m guilty as well. Nothing like the freedom. Thanks for the video.
259,000 you can get a cirrus plane and a parachute. They out of hand with this.
@9600GTMAN I know right. They try and takes these older planes and over charge for them like they some antique artifacts. I can see why modern planes costing what they cost, but no way in the hell should older planes cost more then modern planes.
@9600GTMAN Now that what I call a total ripoff smh.
Have you priced a Cirrus? More like $680.000 for new, doubt you’d get a used one for under $350,000
@@GLEX234 My post is a year old and the sr22 used is still selling for under 300,000. A little research on Google you will find them.
