    The step I like best is the switch from attracting to repelling magnets.

    It would have been cool if the three dummy 'feet' had not been glued but were able to be pulled out different distances and also able to spin. That misdirection would make the puzzle even more potentially perplexing!

    • @Mr.Puzzle
      @Mr.Puzzle  Před 6 měsíci +5

      This would step up the difficulty a lot!

    Just to clarify, the d4 🎲 (the 🎲 with only 4 faces), is read exactly as you assumed. You read the number that appears at the peak. They are most commonly used for tabletop and board games along with d6, d8, d10, d12, and d20(each indicating the number of faces).

    as a tabletop game player it is always funny seeing people struggle with D4's. i have 2 types: one where the number on the top is correct and one where the number on the bottom is correct

      @@Mr.PuzzleYes, in general the correct number on the four-sided die is the one that appears to be upright while you're looking at it. Sometimes, as in the one you found in the puzzle box, that number is positioned closer to the point. Other times, it's positioned just above the base.

  • @arelin3578
    @arelin3578 Před 6 měsíci +1

    Yes. You read that kind of D4 (4sided dice) by reading the top number.

    Reading a d4 depends on the placement of the numbers, but the solution to that puzzle is to read rhe number that's right side up.

    So are the dice loaded to always land the same way? That would be a cool way to let the owner know which serial they own of a limited run. (D4 & D10 would allow a limited run of 40.)

    Very interesting puzzle, also didnt expect the dice as rewards for solving it. But just 2 of those felt kinda cheap to me. Those are dice used on dungeons and dragons rpg games and they are missing many other dice for it to be a complete set, we call them D+ the number of surfaces they have, so the little pyriamid like we call D4, the complete set would go from D4, D6 (the common dice lol), D8, D10, D12 and D20 and you assumed right, we read the number on the peak as the result of the roll, same as every other dice xD.

    • @wbfaulk
      @wbfaulk Před 6 měsíci

      More generally, you read the number that is oriented upright. It isn't necessarily on the peak, though that seems to have become the more common placement. There are still dice that show the selected number along the base, though.

    The idea that it has to be rotated in a certain way seems like a bad design. How would someone guess something like that? And, why would they try that in the first place? It seems that they could've done more in a traditional solving sense than to resort to something completely esoteric in nature.
