Can you make a video on Earthbound Beginnings pls?
check out starcrash from 1978 it's a great b movie and a lot of fun to watch mst3k later made fun of it
I already watched it before ❤Valentine's Day❤ awsome sonic movie
Well we can say it this way James Sega does what Nintendon't the Sega character Sonic got a better movie than the one Nintendo approved with Mario Bros I hope Nintendo try to make a real Super Mario Bros movie I mean a real Mario World it can be done with live action mixed with CGI
Glad to hear you enjoyed it james, if it isent too Much trouble, what were your thoughts on the Bumblebee movie if you have seen it, it's refreshing to see a transformers movie in the classics spirit
Seeing Johnny on Cimemassacre is like seeing Sonic back in Smash Bros Brawl
I’m fanboying hard
Seriously though imagine being in Johnny's spot how much of an idol avgn is to him. Like seriously you could see so much avgn inspiration in Johnny's old videos.
“You’re too slow”
Any SEGA movie should open like the THX intro. Just an ear deafening "SSSEEEEEEEEEEGGGAAAAAAAAAAA"
Or use the SEGA from Sonic 3D Blast
It...kinda did, actually.
"The audience is now deaf."
I really like how they worked in the nickname thing especially for Robotnik to Eggman. Sonic sees Eggman's robots are egg shaped, so called him Eggman. "You're flying eggs are pretty impressive Mr Eggman, but let's face it, you'll never catch me!" THAT is SONIC right there. It took a while for him to get to that level of cocky self confidence, but I actually like that they went a different route with him here-though it does make me wonder how the sequel is gonna go with the introduction of a certain character.

My favorite reference in the movie is when "crazy Carl" holds up the drawing of sanic, it was very subtle but me and my friend were laughing quite a bit when we saw it in theaters
They should stop calling him crazy carl, and start calling him "Super observant Carl"
That's your definition of subtlety?
In Shenmue 2, there was a Sonic drawing like that hanging in a wall in a kindergarten inside Yan Tin apartments.
Me and my nephew lost it there lmao
I’m pretty sure Johnny is fangirling inside knowing he’s next to his idol.
He totally was

I love that one scene in the movie where Crazy Carl draws a rough sketch of Sonic which he calls "The Blue Devil" and
the drawing is 'Sanic'.
I was wondering if that was a nod to all the tweets and memes comparing the original design to Sanic
@@The_Red_Scare Don't think it could have been, the joke is too early in the movie for it to be affected by the re-animation process
I nearly died laughing at that.
I spazzed out in the theater and yelled SANIC
"Agent Stone, pin yourself up against the wall!"
Anybody else thought, when Sonic said "I hate the mushroom planet", he was throwing shade at the Mushroom Kingdom?
Haha yea, me to
I did. And it was funny he was cheering Dennis Hopper in _Speed_ when he played Koopa in the Mario movie.
Aka the weakest kingdom since they can get invaded so easy and always rely on Mario to do all the dirty work instead of trying to make improvements to their defense and weapons to stop Bowser from easily taking the princess
I'll be honest with you, I really REALLY hope Sega and Nintendo are in this together and are planning to make a Smash Bros cinematic universe. Because the mushroom planet works not only for sonic but Mario but even more, Sonic is IN smash.
If you include all the different characters in smash, it would make so much sense if 'Smash' was a massive galactic tournament which gather the best fighters of the universe to a smack down for our entertainment. XD

Can we all just agree that the beginning of the movie is REALLY strong. Not even just the big sega logo and all the refrences but the actual part that happens before sonic gets to earth.
Hope the sequels is at least half the movie is set in Sonic's world.
I thought the whole movie was strong
@Luis I still say the final battle was the best part
@Marcelo Zuniga Its called an opinion sir
I disagree! I thought the existence of Longclaw (the owl) was kind of a one-off thing that is part of an excuse to make Sonic escape to Earth and the movie kinda started in a very cliché way, anyway, with the whole thing starting in the middle of an epic chase, the frame freezing, and Sonic being like "you probably wonder how I got here". Then it all rewinds to the start
The VFX animators did NOT lose their jobs BECAUSE of the Sonic movie. The Vancouver BC studio was one of 8 branches for the company and they suspended business in the city because it was too expensive to operate.
Good to know.
They never said they did.
@Hal Jordan He's right though
Sure but they lost their jobs despite working on these Hollywood movies
Hal Jordan stop.
"End credits scenes weren't a big thing until recent history."
Movie trailers used to come on after movies ended, which is why they were called trailers. But since nobody would stick around long enough after the movie ended to watch them, they were put at the beginning. If Marvel started putting whole trailers for their upcoming movies at the end instead of post-credit sequences, we'd come full circle.
End credit scenes and trailers - whether before or after the movie - are two completely different things.
A trailer for another movie is not the same thing as a scene that gives away story for the movie you just watched or for a sequel set up.
The 1993 live action Mario movie had a post-credits scene.
@@trailersic To this day I wonder what the _Supa Koopa Cousins_ game would be like.
Marvel DID do that for Endgame. It didn't have a post-credits scene, and then a couple weeks into its theatrical run they added in the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer as a post-credits thing
I was actually surprised by the movie’s quality. It had many nice nods to Sonic but some of the humor was kinda okay. Like instead of flossing, Sonic should have don’t a finishing dance like in 3D sonic games.
IAmChrisAMA to be fair the filming started late 2018 when the floss dance was still the hottest thing and just pushed into 2020 for redesign
That's why I think trends like that shouldn't be put into movies since they get outdated fast, especially once the movie releases.
The floss I barely noticed, but the shoehorned in Amazon joke and olive garden jokes were terrible
I haven't seen the movie, but the most important question remains:
Is the traditional Sonic butt rock in the movie?
I actually liked that, it had something for everyone, not only retro enthusiasts
It's a bizarre feeling when you haven't had a "good time" with a particular childhood character in a quarter century, then all of a sudden that character returns & you are pleasantly surprised & uplifted by him again.

It's only one ticket but I do hope others do the same. Buy I do want these VFX studios to be treated better eventually. After watching channels like Corridor Digital I realize how time-consuming VFX can be.
I watched it mostly because I always wanted a Sonic the Hedgehog movie since I was kid.
the more they bring in the better pay VFX gets ideally
@@lennynero8614 Actually it kinda does. I bought a ticket and never even saw the movie. I also wanted to show that listening to your audience works.
I did the same, and i went out with a smile.
The reason they had the whole thing with Sonic's Quill having so much energy in it is because in the games Dr. Eggman was always using animals from Sonic's world to power his robots so it's adapting that into the movie. basicly certain creatures from Sonic's world have this power within them that Dr. Eggman can tap into and harness, so in the sequel he can start having all his Badniks powerd with captured animals.
Really just ties into what they said. This movie just makes you more excited for its sequel, than itself.
Actually turns out that's not that case. In the official sonic movie novelization, it states that sonic actually possess chaos energy, and a group of universal evil called the warlords wants to harness it. Longclaw, the warrior owl, as well as a series of other noble owls, protected the world from these warlords.

17:59 It's kind of implied that Sonic's personality often interferes with his powers at some point. For example, the reason why he was so easily shot, was because he was so focused on trying to talk his way out of being captured, that he didn't consider Tom an actual threat. His attention being focused on that. Whereas the other times, were mostly because his head was in the game.
He did basically idolize the "donut lord" it's easy to see why he might have underestimated the situation.
Explains why in the games Robotnik usually gets one on Sonic after the stage is cleared. Is also why Knuckles was able to take out Super Sonic.
He was in a relaxed state, just arriving to the island, a tropical paradise as an avatar of chaos. How much more relaxed could you be?
Guess it's true, everyone has a plan until you get punched in the face. or shot.

AVGN FOREVER!!
James is at his best when talking about things about which he is passionate. The AVGN episodes where he has some real history with the game or series are almost always better than those that he reviews without any personal connection. His perspective on film is also really interesting. It’s not like Doug Walker’s, which is often just “the louder you yell, the funnier it (seems like it) is” or repeated reference humor. That’s really nothing against Doug’s schtick; I just like James’ takes better since they tend to come off as very genuine.

Detective Pikachu did take place in the Pokemon world. The only thing is Rhyme city was a city where people didn't battle pokemon.
I'm sure what James is getting at, is Rhyme City isn't that unique. Take away the Neon, and it could be any city in real life.
Where as in the Pokemon world, you would see a more unique take on places.
Like a big, oval shaped, pink building for a hospital, or a giant tower in the middle of a small town for a Graveyard.
EVERYONE calls out the scene where he gets darted as a plot hole. Nobody takes into account Sonic desperately wanted to contact the guy and had grown to trust him. He could have either been distracted, or just let it happen to show he wasn't a threat.
That’s a stupid reason to get shot. He may watch him from a distance but Sonic has no clue how James would react to an alien like blue hedgehog. He also doesn’t know if that was a tranquilizer. He could have easily been killed by James. This is a plot hole. Don’t defend it.
Things can happen awfully quickly too before people can actually think to react. It could happen to Sonic.
That’s why it bothers me that some people consider it a plot hole because Sonic is human like us too.
It always hurts my heart when I hear how animators are treated, and that lingered me while watching this great redesign.

12:07 Actually, Dr. Eggman's name is Robotnik also in Japan (since the very start, according to Yuuji Naka), and it's his real family name. "Eggman" is a nickname that other characters gave him because of his shape. SEGA started to use it extensively since Sonic Adventure, but the character's name is still Robotnik.
Actually, Johnny's right. It was always Eggman in Japan, hence the Japanese manual for Sonic 1 calling him "Eggman" and the word "EGGMAN" appearing on the sides of the Wing Fortress in Sonic 2. The whole thing with Eggman just being a nickname in both English and Japanese is just part of the post-Sonic Adventure retcon.

I thought it was an incredible movie as a kid..
As an adult, not so much.. It's a likable movie I can always watch but it really wasn't that great..
There are too many characters in these fighting games to squeeze into an hour and a half movie.. MK and SF just felt empty and souless as movies..
Too many characters, too much going on, too many back stories... Major characters reduced to fodder.. It's just too much...
There was many many subtle nods to the games. The ping-pong table was "Hill Top" the chase scene going down the hill was Sonic Adventure and many more
To be fair, in regards to the whole "real world" thing, the Pokémon universe has pretty much always been shown to be extremely similar to the real world, and Sonic's no stranger to that either since most of the games during the Sonic Adventure era take place in a more realistic setting, so that much didn't really bother me. I do agree that I would have loved seeing more of Sonic's world from the beginning, though, and was kinda surprised it wasn't at least mentioned again. I do feel that the sequel hooks really set us up for a return to it, though.

In the later games and TV shows its explained that robotnic is Eggmans grandfather
James: posts a new video
Me: Gotta Go *FAST*

Im actually glad cinemasacre is getting sponsors
Me Too.😊🙂
I’m a spiritual, lyrical, miracle individual, spiritual, miracle, lyrical.
I can do without the fatties though.
James’’ head looks tiny in between those juggernaut melons
The one thing Sonic has that Mario Doesn't.
A Successful Hit Movie!
I wish him luck in Illumination
This is a surreal crossover! 2 of the OGs shooting the breezing, and I love it.
02:39 = Self-awareness level hits 100.
I personally feel like the reason they had Sonic in the real world: is because they wanted Eggman to be a real human, but in the sequels Eggman will be one of the only real subject in an entirely CGI universe.
So they did one where small elements of the videogames interact with the real world in order to normalize the visual shock [of having only one real human in a CGI landscape surrounded by CGI characters].
But that's just my hypothesis. IDK.
I'm also hypothesizing that the "Mushroom planet" is Mushroom Hill, and that the Echidnas attacked Sonic because if their prophecy which we see in Sonic 3.
15:14 they revealed that the real life/CG hybrid was the result of a low movie budget and they had to work with what they had.
I honestly prefer the origin story be this way just because it provides a more unique basis for the team to build off of in the sequel. Hoping the sequel doesn’t just completely cast off Earth since they make it a huge point that Sonic loves it there and he’s been adopted.
"Get the song"
Sega does not own the rights to the song. Yes, really.
Which song?
SEGA is historically shit with keeping licenses to their audio. Would be great for the old artists if their songs ever got used.
Charles Champ What song?
7:20 That's another stupid sticking point for me. Why did Sonic end up in the ocean? ...shouldn't he be fast enough to run on it? So if donut guy (whose name I still don't remember cuz he was so forgettable) says "just go that way" shouldn't Sonic just "go that way" until he got results? Oh right, I forgot, half the movie is jokes about him being fast but still failing in what he tries to accomplish. Like when he zipped back and forth to the tall building to tell donut guy and his gf that the door was locked, because that joke wasn't overused, right?
Like Arlo said, this movie is only jokes about being fast, where Sonic is like "we could try... oh I already did that, cuz I'm fast". Like the writers had no clue what else to do with the character. Not even the 3D games were so paper thin in their writing.
I loved this movie alot. Jim Carrey was priceless with his performance.
James looks so small compared to these guys, but he's just normal size lol
Rolling around at the speed of AWESOMENESS!
SomecallmeJohnny with James Rolf talking about the Sonic movie.
I had the choice between Birds of Prey (2020) and Sonic The Hedgehog (2020). I chose Sonic.
I think I made the right decision.
Detective Pikachu WAS set in the actual Pokémon World though. The Pokémon World has always been a parallel for our real one, and Ryme City is from the games, as is England-inspired cities in Gen 8.
Technically, the Sonic series is no stranger to "real" locations too. San Fracisco has long since been an inspiration for cities seen in the games.
Well now you need to tell Doug why he’s wrong about “ the old design being better”
I enjoyed the movie and for anyone that hasn’t seen it, go watch it! 🙂
Jim Carrey also plays Dr. Robotnik perfectly.
Dave Jim Carrey is awesome as Robotnik! When he shaved his head, I was hyped too😂😂. Tails came in the post credits too! I can’t wait for the sequel! As a Sega fan, this is a must see movie!
Good for johnny... he finally met the man that started his YT career...
I do like how the Echindas at the start of the film were pretty much the tribe from Sonic Adventure.
