Jim Carrey's First Big Film: Ace Ventura Pet Detective - Cinemassacre Rental Reviews
Vložit
- čas přidán 6. 02. 2020
- Welcome to Cinemassacre Rental Reviews' Febru-Carrey. Four Jim Carrey movies all February long. While his later films are good, Ace Ventura was how most were introduced to Jim Carrey and his famous style of comedy to the screen. When the dolphin mascot of Miami's NFL team is abducted, Ace Ventura (Jim Carrey), a zany private investigator who specializes in finding missing animals, looks into the case. Soon Miami Dolphins players are kidnapped too, including star player Dan Marino (Dan Marino), making Ace's sleuth work even more pressing. Working with Dolphins representative Melissa Robinson (Courteney Cox), Ace closes in on the culprits, but not before many ridiculous misadventures.

I cant believe Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber and The Mask were all the same year. That felt like a 3-4 year period.
@@igorivanov299 Maybe age? I was 8 in 94.
Maybe because it was middle school? Like 5th-8th grade from 1994-and a few years after those movies were still popular, and people quoted them often.
And then Batman Forever and Ace Ventura 2 came out the next year.
It wasn't all the same year. Data has been changed. I was there. It was fall 93 to summer 95.
in the childhood time runs slower
So in 1994, Carrey played the role of Ace Ventura, a character that makes a living by saving pets and captive animals and now in 2020 he plays Dr. Robotnik, a character known for literally powering robots with helpless woodland creatures.
_The duality of man._
Die young as a hero
or
Live long enough to be the villain
Preached socialism while showing off his nike shoes too. The man's a walking paradox
He's played animal cruel people before. The Grinch, who abuses his dog Max. He plays an animal control man whom on top of solving a mystery is hunting this one dog.
Just like Austin Powers and Dr. Evil

@@A2Z83 you would know by experience?
I tucked once but I didn't have the legs for it.
I was confused cuz I kind of understood, but in my memory there was multiple bulges.
The best scene in ace Ventura is at the end when he fights the eagles mascot. As a 14 year old that made me laugh every time I saw it. And I watched that movie over and over and over on vhs back in the day.
I met my wife in high school and we immediately bonded over our love for ace Ventura and when nature calls.... I owe my marriage and to a greater extent, my life to this franchise.
Thanks ace.
moonboogie N8 that is sweet as fuck!
As a former Cowboys fan that scene is still one of my favorites.
Underrated comment!
You're a weird guy, moonboogie N8. Weird guy.
Ray Finkle's motivation for kidnapping Snowflake was the fact that after everything that happened at the super bowl the Miami Dolphins gives Snowflake his number and they taught him how to kick a field goal. Kidnapping Snowflake was Finkle's way of getting back at them.
@@DarkWestern lol
Haha.... I dunno it seemed like these guys were STRUGGLING to recall this movie
Exactly why he kidnapped the dolphin.
Good to see someone who doesn't buckle under the pressure..
Dan Marino is real, Snow Flake is not. Bummer.
Crazy how Ace Ventura, The Mask and Dumb and Dumber all came out the same year and all three movies also had animated shows. They really loved Jim Carrey that year
when i was a kid i thought the films we're based off the cartoons.
And awful sequels without Carrey. Yes, Ace Ventura has When Nature Calls, but it also has Ace Ventura Jr. And before we got Dumb and Dumber 2, we got the abysmally named Dumb and Dumberer. Yes really.
IKR?! I call it the Year of Jim Carrey.
Dan Marino also played himself in Little Nicky, begging the Devil to let him win a Super Bowl.
"Fine! I'll go to the Super Bowl as an announcer! And I'll win myself an Emmy!"
haha oh yea
Also in "Bad Boys 2"
As a kid, I was so confused at the "worst case of hemorrhoids" scene. My father was laughing hysterically and I said "what's that?" He quickly replied "hemorrhoids" I was a bit confused but accepted his answer. It was many years later after seeing the movie like 20+ times before I figured out what it was lmao
if you were a Duggar and not a Duggan, you'd have got it. Seriously, even AFTER this movie, I've never seen the view it tucked under from the back. Like Silence of The Lambs showed you the front and it was recognizable, but the back?!
I was an extra in this movie. Front row...stadium scene. Love this movie. Probably one of the best comedies of the 90s.
Cool. Any pictures for comparison? :3

Share a behind the scenes story, please. Did Jim try to entertain the crowd between takes?
This video should have been titled, "James' friends describe a movie to him that he should have watched."
They had no clue of his name. He is introduced at the beg of the movie
How do you do a review on a movie that you either haven’t seen or aren’t even sure of the plot or outcome?! Lol waste of time guys
Lmao, that's how alotta the reviews go
Imagine Jim Carrey being a guest on the AVGN I think I would enjoy that a lot!
"This is a real football team? This dan marino guy" lmao
I always enjoyed this movie. The great white shark that he runs into. When he goes to meet the one guy goes to the cannibal corpse concert. Thank you for all the great content.

Everyone always said "who?" when I talked about the Cannibal Corpse show scene as a kid.
James literally knows nothing about sports. Its kind of amazing actually.
Justin looks like Craig from Malcolm in the Middle
OMG I thought the same thing!
Yep!! With a dash of Andy Milonakis
Poor Craig
he actually does hahaha
He was also in *Earth girls are easy* with Damon Wayons and Jeff Goldbloom.
Daniel Yerke also Once bitten, he plays a vampire.
Lon Reed once bitten is pretty good.
@@lonreed9743 i have both Earth Girls Are Easy and Once Bitten. EGAE is alright but i really like Once Bitten. and he sort of plays a vampire. he's still human but he's transforming into a vampire and it ends up being prevented, but throughout the movie he's transforming to one and is trying to figure out what's going on.
@@maplebob23 i'm trying to figure out why they made no mention of Once Bitten at all while they were talking about Cage in A Vampires Kiss near the beginning of the video. And i don't see it on their list of Carrey movies for the month...it was a fairly decent vampire comedy for the time.
That’s how he and Damon Wayons met, while making Earth Girls are Easy.
A scene that always kills me is when Ace is in the storage room at the insane asylum or whatever and steps on the bubble wrap then starts tripping out because he thinks he's getting shot at or some shit haha
15:59 Literally today at work we had a customer come in who's last name was Einhorn and when he left I totally quoted Ace Ventura. "Finkle is Einhorn... Einhorn is Finkle...Einhorn's a man!!!... Einhorn's a Maaaaannn!?!?!"
Joey V- The perfect time for you to make an 'Ace Ventura: Pet Detective' reference, huh???...
Gotta love it when you can make references to various movies/TV shows/etc. in the work-place & at the same time, see how many people get them.
I thought the reaction Ace has when he discovers Finkle is Einhorn was deliberately over the top even as a kid. I thought his reaction *was* the joke.
I would have the same reaction as Ace myself if i had such an experience, albeit not as hilariously over the top as Jim does it:)
@ULGROTHA *That's* the joke...
@ULGROTHA not offensive, but over the top and dumb. If you're offended by a man overreacting to being tricked by another man into making out with him, I don't know what to do for you.
@ULGROTHA you're right, it is problematic. Ventura was sexually assaulted by a man pretending to be a woman and it's played as a joke.

There's more talked about not the movie then the movie. Facking amateurs.....
"Hey, Ace, you have anymore of that gum?"
"I'd prefer if you'd stay out of my personal affairs."
"You're a strange man, Ace."
Forgot the "Thats none of your damn business" bit before the "and I'd thank you to stay out of my personal affairs" bit. Still funny af
"you're a weird guy, Ace. Weird guy". i think those lines has to do with the association of having made out with Finkle / Einhorn and how much gum he was chewing still the next day. so, he wouldn't have wanted to say why he was still chewing gum and probably out of it.
😱😱😱 I can’t believe I’ve never realized that!

That was the 90's thing (and every year's thing really) to just have the actors do the same thing over and over again in different films.

Will Farrell did that in the early 2000s.

The Miami Dolphins' mascot (a dolphin) is kidnapped so the police enlist the aid of a detective that specializes in cases involving missing animals.
The investigation into Finkle happens because he's the lead suspect.

The term "Pet Detective" is used VERY loosely because Ace Ventura does a lot more than rescuing pets. He rescues wild animals, too. For example, in Ace Ventura 2: When Nature Calls, Ace goes to Africa to rescue a great white bat known as Shikaka.
"Shish-kabob. Shawshank Redemption. Chicago!"
I get it!
I like that they keep it casual and go off memory sometimes. What I like about Rental Reviews is that they talk about a movie in general, and the context around it. Their memories of the time it was released, moments they like, how it fits in with the actors career, etc.
Do we really need a focused review breaking down and examining Ace Ventura? lol

I absolutely love these but they're definitely better when you all sit down the night before filming and watch the movie. Going from a "when i watched the movie as a kid" perspective is cool but it's just not enough for a video, specially if you don't remember the movie that well.
