  • After living in our Outdoors RV travel trailer for 2 years full-time we decided it's finally time to refresh the decor and turn it into our perfect mobile workspace. Our goal was to paint the walls, brighten up the kitchen and bathroom, replace the blinds, update the fittings and build an ergonomic desk.

    remodel looks great. This is what Outdoor RV should be doing to their trailers before selling outdated decor to its customers. They are just typical of the RV industry that doesn't listen to its customers and only does things according to what they think we want.

      Thanks Paul! We actually spent some time with Outdoors RV after doing our remodel, walking them through our changes. They really liked what we'd done, and it's definitely given them some things to think about - I'm hopeful they might embrace a few things too!
      The challenge they have is that while there are many of us out here who really like the brighter colors, cleaner look, etc, there really are others who prefer the more muted shades of brown - reminiscent of a hunting cabin, for example. We see this when it comes up from time to time on the Outdoors RV owners group - about half the group love the brown, and about half of them hate it!

    While I like the idea behind wanting to "brighten" up your home, what did Outdoors RV recommend you use for primer, and paint? Knowing how those trailers are built, I wouldn't know which formula of paint to pick, as delamination can happen if the chemistry is off, but you guys are such boffins (while I'm a bit of a bloody damp squib) I love how you work so well together in everything that you do! Thanks again for another truly useful and entertaining video! Safe, and happy travels!

      We asked Cortni from @theflippingnomad what she recommends for primer and paint for the RV walls. She is expert in RV renovations.

    I usually visit Glacier every year, except this one. This video was absolutely amazing. You nailed Glacier! Awesome job guys. Keep them coming 🙂

  • @thevagabondsageinthewoods

    Very cool! My vintage camper had to be gutted and is being remodeled now. I have to be quite expressive w/my style so her name is Bohemian Rhapsody and her interior will reflect that name quite nicely I think! Best of luck!!!!! Be safe.

    As usual, a nicely produced video. With the possible exception of Airstream, I'm surprised so many manufacturers don't offer a light color interior option. Based on the fact that you are removing screws rather than staples, I'd say Outdoors RV builds a solid product.

      Thank you! Since completing our remodel, we've actually stopped by the Outdoors RV factory and shown them the results in person. They really liked it, and although they wouldn't commit to offering a lighter color scheme, I think it really gave them some ideas to consider!
      As for being a solid product, yes! We had our first hands-on experience of that when we did our big electrical upgrade. Their cabinetry really is built to handle rougher terrain than most.

      Thank you! Particularly on a smaller trailer, a lighter color scheme really helps to make it feel more spacious.

    Great can’t wait for part ll. I have a mobile home for my base unit and it has smart technology allowing me to control anything while I am camping in my forest river 2614bs ultra lite. Love the way you hooked up your thermostat which is the same as I used to have and have changed to Sensi control since then. Your solar is the best I have seen and allows you great independence during your stays. Keep up the great work. Started watching you from the beginning and get your e-mails all the time. Tom

    After owning 4 RV trailers, our new ( er) ORV Timber Ridge is 1000% built better. The corner moldings, they are glued very well compared to the last 2 RV trailers we owned. The last two RV's the corner moldings would come un-glued. Where they have the tan material, we liked the darker Chocolate interior. Personally I like the wood-zy interior design of the ORV's. I see one issue with painting, when you go to fill the holes on the wall papered walls, its going to be hard to match the texture of that surface. So when you paint it white, the patched areas might show somewhat. Maybe hit it with a wire brush as you are applying the putty / patch material and give it a little texture. Then sand it down a hair to match the texture of the rest of the wall. I'm sure you have already completed the job.

    • @AdventurousWay
      @AdventurousWay  Před 3 lety

      Haha, yes, we can attest to how well the corner moldings are glued on! Good point about the texture on the walls. I guess our holes have mostly been covered with other stuff (like behind desk or backsplash) so I haven't noticed any uneven texture.

    Your remodel looks great. The interior styling of Outdoors RV trailers seems like a weak point for them in an otherwise extremely strong offering. To your point, I'm sure some love the darker "hunting lodge" styling, but it undoubtedly makes the trailer feel dark. A lighter, brighter interior design would be a highly desirable option.

    • @AdventurousWay
      @AdventurousWay  Před 3 lety +3

      Totally agree, a lighter interior design option would be a very desirable option!

    We really want to replace our pleated blinds with a double pull down roller sun shade and black outs. It isn’t cheap. We will have to do it a room at a time (living space, bunk room and bedroom). After living in out 5th wheel the first week we replaced our large booth dinette with a really nice leather power reclining loveseat from Costco, two 9” wide metal and glass end tables and stained glass lamps. Then we removed the tri-fold sofa sleeper and put in a 42” diameter dual drop leaf dinning table in its place with four teak folding chairs. We use the table with one leaf down and two chairs. We are super comfortable now. We plan to add a backsplash at the kitchen and bathroom counters. Also plan to do an accent wall in the bedroom of some type. Don’t know if we will paint anything yet. There’s no going back after that.

    • @AdventurousWay
      @AdventurousWay  Před 3 lety

      Sounds like you have done great changes already! I agree, blinds are not cheap. And there is definitely no going back after painting walls. We have been in this trailer for 2 years so we know we really like it and will keep it for a long time. So we finally felt comfortable painting the walls.

    I wish I could buy an RV at about 70% finished. Save me the cost of the blinds, valances, weird trim, cheap carpet and floor coverings, weird backsplashes, dinnets, etc. I don't need recliners with lighted cup holders and phone chargers. It's like you pay a fortune for cheap stuff that you really don't want and will end up spending more money to change.

    Looking forward to details about the painting. Covering wallpaper can be a challenge.
    Are you planning anything for the flooring?

    • @AdventurousWay
      @AdventurousWay  Před 3 lety

      We actually really like our floor so we are keeping it as is. We thought about replacing the carpet in the slide to different carpet, but in the end decided that's too much work, especially since the carpet hasn't been worn out yet.

    Amazing stuff. I was wondering as first time fulltimer, did you upgrade your bed? You didn't cover that in the 38 mods you made, I saw you still had gas springs though so I'm guessing you didn't buy a traditional mattress so....whats up? haha

    • @AdventurousWay
      @AdventurousWay  Před 3 lety +1

      Our make of RV - Outdoors RV - comes from the factory with a premium mattress. We find it quite comfortable so haven't had a need to change it or add a topper, though different people might have different needs.

    I wonder if the manufacturer would have the color info?

    • @AdventurousWay
      @AdventurousWay  Před 3 lety

      I'm not sure. Also even if they had the color I'm not sure how easy it would be to translate it to Home Depot color names. Matching using the color sample sheets wasn't too hard.
