Several questions: What powder (Volumetric) and bullet (weight) do you use for the muzzleloader? Do you actually have enough energy (foot lbs) to kill at that distance - let alone seeing the animal through iron. Anything past 150-200 and I can't see the animal (What is your secret)?
Hi Walter, this is Cody, thanks for the question.
I don't measure my powder by volume I measure it by weight and it's 115grains of Blackhorn 209 and the bullet is a 300gr Arrowhead 45cal NSR(No Sizing Required). With all of the data, we have gathered via Magneto Speed and Labradar we have figured out that at 500 yards the bullet is still traveling at 1700 FPS and still has somewhere right around 1925 ft-lbs of energy which in comparison to a 300RUM at 500 yards at 2640 ft-lbs isn't that bad. I'll be using the Gunworks Revic EXO rear site and a custom-built front site by Lee Shaver Gunsmithing. With that setup, I can clearly see animals at 300 yards especially a bull elk on a green contrasting background. Although the Muzzleloader can shoot extreme long ranges, please believe I don't plan on doing it, 300 yards is the longest shot I plan on taking if everything is absolutely perfect which we know never happens on the mountain. lol
