Great vid. Resale of returned ID tags has gotten tough though. Tried to get an elk tag last week. Logged in 4 hours early. When sale began I was placed #700 something in the queue. By the time I got in there was nothing but a single B tag left for the worst unit. That was it.
Randy, great info for the nonresidents! Recently (last year?) though, Idaho Fish and Game changed archery to allow mechanical broadheads and lighted nocks. Muzzleloader is still primitive with lead only projectiles, open sights, exposed breech, loose powder and no 209 primers. Also, open to hunting timber company ground is not considered private for deer or elk, which makes a difference on some tag restrictions.
Making mechanical broadheads legal was stupid idea! And what about inline muzzle loaders?? Do they get to hunt during the muzzle loader season? I can't remember.
As a Canadian, I must admit that the U.S. point system is absolutely mind-numbing to me. In Canada, it's all luck of the draw, similar to Idaho. And even the tag prices there 🤯. Here, a Deer tag is $40+tax, and you can buy it at any gas station or Cabelas. Elk and Moose is a draw system. Elk and Moose tags are about $150 each plus tax. Also here, if you're unsuccessful in a big game draw, they refund your money.The $2,600 in Idaho is nutty. It's almost turning hunting into a richmans game.... If our govts could just get along, they could make it easier for U.S. hunters to hunt North of the border for a fraction of the cost, especially with the way the dollar exchange sits.
It really is getting to the point for newer hunters with little to no points unless you pay $6k+ for a private land hunt you just aren't going to hunt.
@Tyanmax99 Yea, I hear that. Here, if you can scrape $40 together for a tag and a pack or two of hotdogs, you can go on a weekend hunt... Wish it was that simple for you all south of the Border. And private land hunts here generally cost you a case of beer, litteraly, knock on the landowners door and politely ask for permission and more often than not they'll give you full access, with a bit of game meat as a tip.

California just opened up its app season. I know it might not seem appealing to many. However, if the goal is to get fewer people traveling out of state crowding certain areas it might help to shame them by Randy getting public land deer in their states.

You can. You just have to return your general tag for the controlled tag.
Lighted nocks and mechanicals are allowed now.
Idaho might be an option this year for me because I'm sure I won't draw a pronghorn tag in Wyoming this year. Probably gonna end up taking the fly rod and trout fish somewhere in Wyoming or Montana instead. Lol

I fished a little bit inside Yellowstone last year. Wanted to fish the Nork Fork Shoshone River but it was rough and stained when I was there.
Not true about archery last year they changed it you can use lighted knocks and mechanical broadheads

Idaho suck for non resident hunting. If you’re into burning time, money and fuel just to find yourself surrounded by hunters go to Idaho.

@@Tyanmax99 in my personal opinion if you’re going to spend the time and money there are better options to get a higher quality hunt. The units are mismanaged and the quality of hunts are low.

If you don't want non residents in Idaho then you better be prepared to pay at least double the non resident tag costs. Someone has to make up that income loss!
