Concrete is better. It is what's used in building American freeways. It has to be a certain minimum thickness with proper reinforcements, though.

In Nigeria, concrete roads are the cheapest.
Its a shame a country with abundant crude oil dosent have asphelt a bye product from petroleum Refineries to make roads. These are the harms of importing petro because you will also import Asphelt at a very high coast in view of its weight.

With due apology to the Minister, though an Engineer, he is saying rubbish regarding the design of highways pavement whether flexible (asphalt) or rigid pavement (concrete). There are lot of factors that determines what pavement should be used. In addition, it is not strictly true that the design life of a rigid pavement is 40 years. The problem , we have is that the highways in Nigeria are not adequately planned,designed and constructed.
If you had done half the number of engineering projects this engineer had done in his life, you wouldn't be on CZcams arguing with him. 😂😂😂

As an civil and Building engineer i would say that concrete pavement and road will last at least 40 years if build to the required standard and used as they were intended to. Of course if you design a concrete pavement or road for a certain tonnage and you constantly exceed it then it will not last as long.
This Minister is clueless. Go look at the airport he built in Ebonyi State; fancy but not operational because his company which he awarded the contract did a poor job. The present Governor is re-doing through the same useless company. Don’t be deceived, go do your research.
