  • Team siren was an all female League of Legends team that failed in 2013. These girl gamers attempted to solve the lack of female representation in esports. However, their legacy is just filled with memes and embarrassment. How come when it comes to women in gaming, there has not been much success?

      I guess they went to a gun range just to show how "strong" and "independent" they were and prove that they're "real" hardcore gamers. I mean, if I were to announce to everyone that I'm going to invest in stocks as a strong woman, and all I do is upload footage of me walking around the New York Stock Exchange making a complete ass of myself, I'm not going to inspire little girls around the world. Not only would little girls not give a shit about stock investment (let alone LoL tournaments), but I'd just end up showing everyone that women suck at investments and do the complete opposite of what I set out to achieve. They should just drop this stupid crusade and try finding a solution to a problem they're creating. Guys won't care about whatever characteristics the players have so why can't women celebrate that they're being viewed equally among men?

The more important thing is that if Jenny is actually as toxic as some of the other teammates said, then she would wreck any team she is on, especially if she was allowed to be the shot-caller. Team morale and working together properly is more important than any players individual skill. If you're toxic and ruin morale then you can lose the game before even playing.

  • @MugenLord
    @MugenLord Před 6 lety +2827

    The Esports scene is based on skill, not color or gender. This is why we don't see many pro female gaming teams because not many of them have interest in participating in the scene, and most of them haven't reached a high skill level to compete against the best. Team Siren were girly girls and nothing wrong with that but their sponsors who made the trailer tried to make them into bad asses. The promotional was a hit piece against a male dominated scene and their agenda caused these girls to catch hell from the community. Not only that as the video said, none of these females were competing at a high level and yet they were given sponsorship's based on the fact that they were female. So how is it that guys have to grind it out to earn their way into sponsorship's and other deals while these girls are just given one based on their gender?
    They couldn't take the pressure and couldn't get along with one another, so that says a lot. I give them credit for continuing to play the game after the team broke up, so it shows they have passion for the game and its not just some get rich quick scheme for them. Except Yunnie though, since she trashed in the game she decides to rely on her looks and her body in Lewd photography to get ahead, smh....

      Trung Nguyen there is no difference between men and women in terms of skill, but since there are less women going into gaming, there is less chance of producing a pro-level female player than producing a pro-level male player. Women aren’t biologically disadvantaged in video games, however sports is a different can of worms.

Not surprising really, the average reaction time of a guy is lower than a girl's and CS:GO needs you to have roughly 200ms or lower to even be capable of reaching pro level. point being I and many others can never reach pro level no matter what due to our reaction times and that goes even worse for girls. Take an all star team of males and put them against an all star team of females, guys would win the majority of times.

      I mean not to be sexist or anything but there hasn't been a single pro girl league of legends player in esports, either girls aren't that good or guys are too good.

      @AwesomeJaneUniverse Před 6 lety +87

      Absolute Zerø I mean, whether if it is because girls are less encouraged/less welcome in different gaming communities or real skill differences, I don't know. There could be many factors. Games are also targeted more towards a male audience, and guys tend like video games more than gals. I wouldn't jump to conclusions, but I can understand what you're saying :)

    • @ThunderonCZ
      @ThunderonCZ Před 6 lety +82

      Mens willingness to give up absolutely everything for gaming might be factor too. These pros eat and breathe LoL all day long. Regardless on how it affects their social life. They don't care that they if they don't have gf, they don't care if parents hate them, they don't care if they miss school as long as they play the game.
      Women need some kind of social interactions in their life more. They are on average more agreeable than men so they want to avoid direct conflicts. So completely destroying their family and friends relationships over video game is not worth it for them.
      And at the end of the day if they really loved the game and really wanted to be the best they would stick around.

    • @zuzannanils
      @zuzannanils Před 6 lety +34

      Well, in some cases, you're right but you throw all the women in a drawer like that. I personally know a few women who live the game just like men. I'm not saying that you are not right.I just want to say that you should not throw a whole gender in a drawer. I am very bad in League and I am a woman. Ranks do not really matter to me in games, but to my bf is very important. I have a lot of girlfriends who like in your examples play very much in the game and live it. Sometimes, nothing else matters to them but the game. You do not need to offend me or portray me as a feminist. And I think the need of social interactions depends on the people not the gender.

    • @ThunderonCZ
      @ThunderonCZ Před 6 lety +26

      I was reacting more to the post before. I think this "women are less encouraged" argument is silly. Most professional gamers were discouraged by their parents in the beginning and they still proceed to play and compete.
      Anyway do these girlfriends compete? I think one thing is to play casually MMO all day and be competitive. Do they play the game even when they don't feel like it? Do they regularly visit tournaments? Are they studying the boring but important side of the game? Do they believe that they can become best (at least locally)? Do they strive to be the best?
      Because when we talk about the best top players thats how they play and think.

    There are reasons why most of the players are men, women in general are less into computer games overall, and so, as the proportion of pro players is very small, and the proportion of female players is comparatively big(,to proplayers) but still small to the hole playerbase, it would be very strange for there to be women in the higher echelons of competitive play. Plus here there is no affirmative action to help, so to be high up there you need to work yourself to the top instead of being elevated by the laws and regulations.

    • @Seriona1
      @Seriona1 Před 5 lety +13

      Actually the real reason why women are not into video games is that video games for the most part involve competition or combat. Men have to have some kind of combat skill because if we don't, the pack doesn't get feed or to live hence why we are so heavy into sports and/or video games, it trains our animal side to stay alert in the animal world. Women while need some form of natural combat since they directly shelter the kid, normally don't need it to survive so the animal side works more for the auxiliary roles in the pack which would explain why most female gamers avoid direct roles. No one will admit this because we've been trained to think we are somehow outside evolution.

      I dont play or follow league but i kinda understard the hate. It a group pop UP and claim they Will make it big in you sport even when dont having the needed skills their are insulting your hobby or even lifestyle. Pro players go for a lot to reach where they are and a team claming their are in Equal ground just because they special feature Is that they are women Is in fact insulting. Like Lets flip this. A guy make a video telling he can defeat the world female box champion just because he Is a man and some Time he fights some matchs as His local gym and he win 60% of the time. See the problem?

      I don't have any hate for any of them, but I get why trolls jumped on that promo video and Siren as a whole. The promo video was most likely made by people who had no clue what League of Legends even was, so I don't blame the girls themselves for how cringey it turned out, they even seemed to know how bad it was. It was a mix of 1. a girl power message 2. cringey content and 3. a lack of the amount of skill needed to prevent mockery and those factors combined to make Team Siren into the LoL equivalent of throwing a limbless gazelle into a den of starving lions, especially considering the toxicity that is League's fanbase.

It seemed there was more emphasis on them being women than being gamers, which is distracting and counter intuitive. I'm all for girl power and female empowerment, but it would seem an emphasis on being a gamer that happens to be women serves their purpose better. The whole point is to prove you're worthy and belong by just belonging. I find that that attitude demands respect much more than riding the "I'm a girl" wave. It's the same with metal bands for example. If you're a kick ass artist and you're a girl, you're respected (minus assholes). If you're like "look at me, I'm a girl" and it's literally all you talk about, it's hard to respect you. Just my opinion.

      This is actually a fallacy. *A lot* of people could be *on the cusp* of being good enough to be a pro in *any* form of competition if they dedicated their lives to it. But you either need some innate talent, start from a very young age, or sacrifice *everything else* to be a *really good pro* (and even then it's not guaranteed).
      This is why choosing sports (or any other form of competition) as your *career* is usually a *terrible* idea. Even in less popular and less crowded competitions, there are literally hundreds or even thousands of unknown "semi-pros" who can barely scrape by on ramen noodles and odd jobs while persuing their competitive careers.

    I still remember the ad was always brought up in games as a meme during the time. I think maybe the trailer was too forward

      nah, only 2 of them were actually at an appropriate level to go pro (D1 in a time before challenger tier).

      The only 'challenger level' diamond 1 players back then were the ones who were legit stuck at 99lp d1.

      Alvin Yakatori they (as a team) disbanded before S3. I followed Ilysuiteheart and Solvanas on Twitch. They were not challenger, they were high plat to mid diamond.

      I'm not trying to stereotype women here but one thing I find among many female League players, is that they will stick to female champions no matter what. Even if the matchup is bad.

      elena n Vayne is a great ADC that's still in the meta, but lux and sona are both terrible picks right now and have been for a while

    • @spacelizard5280
      @spacelizard5280 Před 6 lety +2

      you can make lux work @ mid pretty easily if you know what you are doing as with all champs, especially until mid dia or so. After that people consistently go for counter match ups and actually know how to play them which means you are gonna have a hard time unless you're at least a tiny bit better.

    I'm sure the main selling point of being the first all female wasn't the main nor only reason and where is bullyhunter for Jenny's comments?

      FinalHoon Zoom technically it is allowed. Renegades actually had that female support player (I forgot what her name was) back in what I believe was season 5, but they were relegated and soon after disbanded by Riot for collusion with Team Dragon Knights. Since then, she's disappeared from the radar (and her name from my memory)

    It's like that Bear Grylls segment where a group of guys and gals try to survive on separate islands. The guys get along just fine, but the women implode almost immediately.
