League of Legends has been constantly evolving during the past 10 years.
During this time the audience has reached peaks that no one could've predicted. Filling out stadiums to watch esports yearly.
However despite all the growth in the professional scene, one thing has always stuck out to some viewers. And that is the lack of female representation. Though some orgs have attempted to step into the girl gamer world, none have actually got into official Riot Games tournaments. Until Vaevictis eSports. The first all female team to ever be represented in LoL esports and have a chance to qualify for the League of Legends world championship. But things didn't go so well.

I honestly feel bad for them. They were used as props. Whoever put them up on that stage knew they were going to get absolutely crushed.
You gotta remember the professional players have their entire lives revolving around this game, they put in as much time and effort as professional sports players. Part of the reason I never made it past Bronze II is I just won't put that much effort into the game, I have a life outside of it.
You think they did not know what they were getting into? These girls don't get money from esports but from simps. It is no accident they are good looking. All this exposure is good for them as they can increase their fan base. After the team was disbanded some of them even opened OF accounts

The problem with all girls teams is that they are generally selected due to being girls, while the other teams are selected due to being good. It is a plenty possible for girls to be just as good, but an all girls team is the wrong way to prove it, whereas one making it onto a team normally would actually prove it

The thing is that league has mostly male players and only a very small amount of those become pro players. So the chance of having a female pro player is also much smaller. So if there are some really good female players out there, they won't be enough to make an all female team. The team at the end really showed a much more realistic approach, having one in the team instead of a whole team.
That's also the issue with hiring based on sex or race quotas where that sex/race make up a much smaller portion of applicants compared to their percentage of the population. Statistically you will have to lower standards in order to actually get enough people to fill the quotas, meanwhile you leave qualified individuals by the wayside.

@@agapon2023 Let me put it this way, if a job is male dominated and women make up say 4% of the applicants to that role. If the goal is to make a 50/50 male to female ratio you are forced to lower standards for the female applicants since the number of women applying to that position are far less.
This is the issue with race/sex based hiring quotas, in most cases the percentage of applicants for a position do not line up with what percentage that race/sex makes up in the population. This in turn forces standards for certain groups to be lower and standards for others to be higher.
If you want a real world example of this take a look at affirmative action, where the required SAT and ACT scores for Asians where a lot higher and some other races where accepted with far lower scores.

An aspect of this story I think alot of people are overlooking here is that the Vae Victis organization was already trying to get out from the League, but were forced to play the season because nobody would buy the slot.
I have no idea what these girls thought would happen going into this, or even why the fuck they were still cleared to compete after sacking their entire original team, but I bet the managers were laughing their asses off all the way out the door.

At that time I was playing on a ru/cis server and often met them in the flex queue. They played at the level of upper platinum - medium diamond (of ru server, of course, which in itself is one of the weakest). Their lcl opponents were euw challengers with years of experience in the pro scene.
It's hard to coordinate a team when you don't talk to each other.

Everyone who played Vaevictis eSports at that time had a very low rating on EUW, they were no higher than a Diamond 4. AND the organization had one female player who was a Diamond 1, but they kept her on the bench and never let her play because she didn't look good according to the managers of the organization.

Fun fact - Riot actually banned teams who are against vaevictis from banning supports because, well, teams would just ban Lulu, Nami, Janna, Soraka, Karma etc. While Russian league was a land of the unknown for Riot, this blatant sexism was still a big no-no, even if the main office generally didn't care what Riot RU would do (sadly, know this from my own experience)

Look at the male teams, players had acne, some were overweight. They weren't hired because of their looks. That's the BIG difference between male teams and female teams.

And that is tens of thousands of years of genetic selection and socialization. Women who reproduce tend to be attractive. Most men historically didn't reproduce. Those that did were not selected for looks until *very* recently.

I barely play league, but my half-good friends and I can’t even beat anything but the easiest bots in less than 15
i main toplane and it NEVER occured me to reach inhibitor faster than 14 minutes. I have no idea whether this is actually repeatable in a ranked game.
@@Cancoillotteman I won game in 11 minutes, but it's back then same as these tournaments, nowdays you have plates on towers which are hard to push in early - artifically it extends the gaming time, it might be possible with a certain combo where you boost dmg/push as much as possible but I doubt

Uh, I remember back in the ancient days of IIRC season two, when the game was A LOT slower, an Asian team (IIRC World Elite or Invictus Gaming) lost just as fast to... either SK or fnatic, I think. It can happen even to genuinely good teams.

And this just shows why identity hiring is a terrible policy. Hire women who are capable of matching up to the competition. Don't just hire women.
The problem is their motivations. They didnt decide "lets hire women" and choose the best ones. They don't even care about hiring women, they cared about hiring marketable pretty faces.

If I'm remembering my figures since I last looked, about 1% of all players are top tier in LoL. How many of that 1% are women? How many of them are willing to give up their whole lives to become LCL players? What if there aren't even 5 women players at that same level who are willing to do that? Well since you decided to hire women, you have to accept less skilled women to fill the same role and voila, same outcome. Of course, they accepted less skilled and PRETTY women on purpose, but the same disaster would happen if you negate a large % of the pool of hires you are willing to hire "for identity."

@@2jzupra Half wrong. There are few to no female players of the skill level required. I know a few ladies who love LoL, and are pretty good, but even then they don't have the skill for this tier of play. Plus they don't care to have that level of skill, that level of passion lies in other things.

@@riri0902 There could be a full female team theoretically, but you'd have to wait for at least one pro female player to pop up in each role, probably in different teams, and them buy all of their contracts and toss them in the same team. Otherwise it's just a marketing stunt.

@Willy Camoy If you force female teams into pro league, and they all get brutally trashed, you are not going to get many women to play. They are going to reason that they are way to hard for them and move onto other games.
There are no women playing Paradox games for example.
You missed the point of the team. They tried to sell their players, they didn't manage. So as a last resort, they went full on advertisement mode. Found some girls who at least played the game, and then made revenue just by exposure. It was a success, went a lot better than the previous roster. The goal for a team is to make money.

@John M. yeah but that still doesn't change that exceptions do exist, if a woman truly wants to be champion, if she trains and becomes better then she absolutely can win, especially in games as for the most part sports are divided due to men being naturally stronger on everage, however, games are more about reflexes and awarenes, and those two things can be something they can train to be on even ground with men, the fact exceptions exist proves that to be true
It may be hard, but with hard work it can be achieved.
So basically, all of that doesn't matter, especially in games since, again, it isn't a competition of strenght, it's more mental than enething else and that already excludes a good portion of the natural advantages men have, games in this regard are like guns, the great equalizer, it doesn't matter who you are, if you put in the work, you'll get there.

Women can be extremely good at video games. I remember Mionelol in WoW who did extraordinary world firsts almost nobody could replicate, even with higher raid tier gear. Her videos always left me in awe. And almost no one knew she was female because it actually just dod not matter. She just played really well. Period. (No pun intended)
That said, women are overall less competitive, and overall not interested in the same video games as guys. (Or in different content within the game). I said OVERALL, which is a STATISTICAL statement. Exceptions exist, thanks in advance for anyone who will point this out trying to school me.
So finding women in the best rosters is neither impossible nor incredible. But getting an all female team is logistically insane. That, or you will get a couple of subpar players (compared to the male counterparts they would be facing). Worst yet, the group dynamic in an all female group would make the group implode really fast. This is something women themselves acknowledge, but do call me mysoginistic if that's what tickles your fancy.
Last problem is men in the gaming comunity. They are obnoxious. While some women have thicker skin or just take it in stride, perhaps some will even enjoy it, but most will be deterred by that, and rightly so. Good luck trying to change that. Boys will be boys.
Last thing. Pro gamers are not about skill, they are like any profession, about money. Female teams can bring some viewership despite bad gameplay, which is why they can still exist despite being a joke on the competition scene. In a way, they are more relevant than top 15-20 teams that are light years ahead in terms of skill. Hence they will get better sponsorships if they can maintain visibility on the overall scene. Nothing wrong with that, capitalism at work here.

@Damani Campbell As a girl I used to play top and jungle. None of my girl friends actually plays support, most of them play mid or ADC. When I quit the game I used to play support but it wasn't because "I feel like helping my team" that's bullshit. I used to play support because none of my teammates was flexible enough to change their roles and fill support. I did that mostly to avoid people trolling. In the end I got bored and quit the game.

You missed the fact that the team that beat them 52-2 got reprimanded for dragging the game out, so the next game the team fighting them made sure that didn't happen while also sending a message by having the shortest professional game ever.
To be fair that was deserved the game was well won and just kept farming kills to humiliate them and why it might of been funny its clearly would be punished for extending the game just for that reason.
