These ‘football experts’ change their sentiment based on reality. If they’re right about a player you’ll never hear the end of it, if they’re wrong, well they made 3 videos to cover up their opinion. The intention of their videos isn’t to be educational, rather just another vibes based ploy to hype up a player behind the shroud of ‘stats’, ‘midfield double pivots’, and ‘registas’

Dave said Mount was a fantastic signing and would be an excellent 8 for us.
To me it made no sense at all to make him our first signing this summer.
He has not been good for 18 months, had only 1 year left of his contract, he wanted to come to United, and still ETH decided to pay way to much for him as our first signing when we all knew that we needed a top striker way more than we needed Mount.
We also knew that we needed Amrabat way more than we needed Mount.
Dave, the "expert" didn't see that when we signing Mount, but suddenly the "expert" understands the mistake it was to sign Mount instead of Amrabat earlier in this window.
ETH signing Antony and Mount is not exactly making me confident in him as our manager.

I feel Sancho should've started as a false 9 with Rashford on the left, or, we take the risk of starting Martial up top with Rashford on left and drop Antony for Sancho as Antony imo has been super poor. I think drop Mount for Eriksen to partner Casemiro because it looks clear to me that Mount still needs to bed in. The quicker Hoijlund is fit the better our transitional play will be and hold up of the ball will be in the final third. I'd like to see Amad Diallo have a run on the right, he was immense for Sunderland last season and his confidence will be high. He can take on his man on his right which Antony seems completely incapable of doing and Amad has a sting of a shot as seen last season. A lot to improve but once we have our full team to pick from, the rhythm will start to take place and we'll see better play.

  • @KennedyNgugik
    @KennedyNgugik Před 8 měsíci +32

Actually our problems aren't even in defending but in passing the ball and retaining possession long enough to build a sustained attack
Rashford losing the ball trying one on one
Bruno and Mason with Hollywood passes with no one to aim for
Antony getting the ball stuck under his foot and losing the ball
They urgency and patience in passing the ball enough time to make their attacks unpredictable, such it's easier to trigger a counter attack because you know what mason , Bruno, rashford and Antony will do every time they get the ball
    Double team garnacho
    Intercept Bruno and Mason passes

    • @michaelduffy4522

Agree completely. Our passing is atrocious. I love him but Bruno gets away with it far too much. His short passing game is dreadful. We are so light in midfield now and in striker department . Unfortunately I can't see that getting sorted this window. Things will inevitably improve but when Eric claimed in his presser that there was no problem with the midfield tactics v wolves I knew we'd lose against spurs . It's the 1st time he's ever worried me . That was poor .

Casemiro and Bruno* do Hollywood passes, not Mount. Mount is much safer in fact his pass accuracy is factually higher than both midfielders consistently and is always in and around 82%.
The urgency you see from most of the players was there last season and the seasons before and it's simply because of the type of players they are, they are direct without using their brains, most don't scan, stop and think about the pass, they don't lift their heads either...this is a fundamentals problems & for the older players is unlikely to change as they will have habits, the younger players 24 and under you can drill.

Casemiro looks way too involved in the attacking play this season. I’d like to see his average position during attacks this season vs last season. He looks too high at times and gets blown by, whilst we’re used to seeing him being in front shuttling side to side to block progress.
I’d like to see him sit further back on attacks in the coming games and drag his teammates around to hold the structure. The defensive communication seems to have vanished in the first two games and I don’t see anyone really taking that responsibility on the pitch.

Don`t also forget Dave that when we decided to use the 2-3-5 system Varane is not the most mobile hence we need another centre back in either J.C. Todibo or Tapsoba. Also we need other midfield reinforcements like amrabat and Onana or Palacios (I don`t really rate Gravenberch)

Rodri play alone as single pivot, same with partey both of the able to control the match with their passing and ball retention. The problem with Casemiro he cant control the match, he is too direct and too quick to release the ball, upfront we also don't have striker who hold the ball well so we constantly lose the ball. Last season Eriksen help him so much in ball retention, this season when he has to do it alone he cant do that
Solution is we have to sign someone like amrabat who could control the tempo, retain possession and pick the right pass at the right moment. And we need hojlund ASAP, he is the one who could hold the ball, wait for other player to come into good position and link up play.

Signing Amrabat would NOT solve united's problems. Its individual ability to dominate 1v1, its tactical awareness and understanding, its play recognition and the ability to refocus and reset instead of trying long/ killer passes all the time, its playing your best players in their best positions, its fitness, its professionalism and professional pride.

It is very hard to switch from two holding midfielders to just the single pivot. If you don't have the right players, you are going to look worse. I think it's too early to tell. We need a few more games before making a determination. But we can always switch back to last season's setup and get our feet under us before trying the single pivot again when we are more prepared.

    • @Ev3rNoor23
      @Ev3rNoor23 Před 8 měsíci

@ryanfinnerty6239 Arteta is a perfect example! I think Ten Hag is thinking that if we don't get to the single pivot, there is no way we are improving upon last season. We need a tactical advantage to compete for the championship. But now it is clear, we may not be able to pull this formation off with Casemiro much less Amrabat. The importance and stress on the holding player is high and its unreasonable to expect Casemiro to handle it himself for the length of a campaign. And a backup arrival is uncertain. Nottingham Forest is going to be the easiest opponent to test this on. So if we don't see positive results there, I think switching back is the move to make. Even if it means struggling to a top 4 finish again, we can use the year to put in the principles necessary and get the roster right before trying again next year.

And in that system, there simply is no deep lying midfielder. Therefor I am not too sure how much sense it would make to bring in Amrabat at this point. Better to go for somebody who is more closely to Casemiros skillset, mostly his defensive output.

The basic problem is that Manchester United is easy to read for any opponent because the lack of options. If the opponents know that they have a player that can recive a long ball they would not press so high. Now they know that playing short is Uniteds only option. Hojlund will change that because he is more natural no 9. So Rasmus Hojlund will also make Onana better by giving him more options; going short, medium short or going long.

I’d say a big issue is we’re signing players that suit different styles actually we have a squad that suits different styles. I think ten hag actually wants to be more like pool than city physical dominant high press direct vertical football hojlund mount actually suit this so do Marcus and Bruno. But Antony is a player who doesn’t thrive in this style at all and cas is aging so neither does he really.

Immensely frustrating to watch on Saturday, rest defence was just as bad as against Wolves and the players are still not covering each other's positions. Why didn't Sancho start against Spurs? Keen to bring in Gravenberch if he's available, as well as Amrabat. We need to start making smart buys rather than paying an arm and a leg every time that we need to bring in someone new.

with the present squad and injuries i feel they should play 3 center backs with martinez in the middle acting as a center back/ defensive midfielder. he is top class with the ball. so instead of having 5 attacking players there would be 4. the system could rotate between 4-2-4 when the opposition has the ball and 4-3-3 when united has the ball. the front 4 would be 2 wingers a number 10 and a false 9

It's crazy to see so many people blaming the midfield for our issues when the forward line on current form is the worst in the top 6. Garnacho has been awful and Rashford isn't a 9. Anthony fairly mediocre although I think he suffers due to having to FB partner.
Sancho has been the biggest disappointment given his pedigree when we signed him.
If you think signing Amarabat will turn Rashford into a 9 or make Garnacho stop losing the ball 10x a game you're crazy.

The problem with United is they buy players out of desperation, too many aging has-beens, and unwanted players who were good 3-5 years ago. Get martial in.... if he is fit
    Gravenberg would be great
When we missed out on kMJ, i was devastated cos i knew we will struggle cos we need a ball carrying CB....
We need a full back that understands inverting... we don't have any....

There's too much micro management with regard to tactics. When players are restricted to specific tasks issued by coaching staff rather than relying on their footballing instinct and experience then you are more likely to see a team of good players fail if the tactics are not spot on. And if players need to be micro managed them then maybe they aren't that good after all. But the other problem with Utd is that a lot of the players just aren't good enough. Nor is the manager.

The problem with United is not only the coach, but they've the worst scouting system of the big 6! Mount was an absolute wreck of a transfer only because he was british. Hojlund is not a bad player, but he won't fit in United's system and needs (at least a striker with 20 goals per season). Onana isn't the best keeper for United, he's too free with the ball and requires a specific group of players to support his technical game style.
Honestly, what pisses me off more, is that there were loads of choices and alternatives in this transfer market and United didn't get them. Alex Scott would work wonders for United, Harry Kane would be crazy expensive but would fit extremely well in that striker hole they have and there were a lot of keepers out there on a better fit than Onana (Diogo Costa, Vlachodimos, Bazunu, Robert Sanchez, etc.)
Manchester United managed to get worse than last year. I thought that couldn't be possible

What has ETH really proven at United?
That he had the balls to deal with Ronaldo? Yes.
That he had the balls to bench Maguire? Yes.
That he managed to win a Mickey Mouse trophy when most teams in the league were crap? Yes.
That he managed to get 3rd when most teams in the league were crap? Yes.
Did he make the team play good football? Not at all.
Was he totally dependent on Rashy having great form for much of the season to score many goals? Yes.
Was he totally dependent on a solid defense to achieve this? Yes.
Was the football extremely boring to watch? Hell, yes.
Did ETH sign a one trick pony with no right foot that he paid extremely to much for and that most likely is not good enough for United? Very much likely.
What has ETH really improved? Yes, he did better than the club did the season before, but he did not in reality do any better than multiple seasons before that.
And that with a much better squad in a weaker league.
I for sure doubt ETH, but you can live with your copium as long as it lasts.

vacated. AWB to 'attack the penalty area' where there is 4v1 against him was never going to work. What AWB needed to do was switch the play to the space spurs vacated to shaws side where we would have had an overload, but what happened was AWB played the ball to Casemiro who tried to find Bruno in the box (as usual) gets it wrong and we lose posession.

There are 2 maim schools of thought on Mount:
    1) Mount is overpriced, overrated and won't work out as a starter at United.
    2) Mount is a bargain, underrated and absolutely perfect for the next step in the Ten Hag rebuild, he must be given time to work.
I have never been able to see the 2nd position clearly. I just cannot picture it.
I have been aware of Mount since he started to make his mark at Derby. I could be wrong but I don't think United's interest in Mason Mount started from the point Ten Hag joined, though the narrative which the club are happy to condone seems to be that Ten Hag wanted Mount from day one.
My main concern is over the influence of "the world's best home grown talent" line which is associated with John Murtough and the Ole-ball era.
Im also concerned by the fact we spent all last Summer failing to get De Jong, then this Summer we go out and sign Mount relatively early, then give him the number 7. It suggests that Ten Hag's plan A has been comprehensively binned and we are now on plan B, C or possibly D.
That's what I would mark our transfer business as this Summer, D (acceptable, nor a fail / ungraded, but the lowest pass you can give)
I just don't like the way Mount plays I don't like watching him, not Ten Hag's high press version of Ole-ball.
I think we looked better with Weghorst playing instead of Mount.

One can analyze all the midfield stuff and who's playing where but it's all smoke and mirrors when you don't have a top class finisher. They failed to address their biggest weakness and are suffering the consequences. All the tactics mean nothing when you can't score. Tactics, nor the midfield, nor who is playing where has anything to do with Fernandes header, or Rashford's missed header, or Antony hitting his usual post. They had a chance to get that one guy that would lift this team and cause concern for their opponents and they let him walk to Bavaria. Until they find someone or by someone who can score consistently, they are who they are. They better hope Hojlund is Haaland's baby brother.
