Great tip to wash your hands after handling diseased plants before going to another plant. Another thing that should be done is to clean your pruners before using it on any other plant to keep from spreading the disease. 😊

Hey, I love that so many people are being encouraged to grow and that you emphasize growing things you’ll actually use! However I did want to say that powdery mildew shouldn’t make gardeners panic. It’s totally safe to compost it if you are hot composting, and even if you are cold composting it’s not really a big deal. The danger of powdery mildew comes from the plants being in damp humid conditions (like you said) and not because they were infected. While you do have to worry about infection with a lot of diseases in the garden, chances are powdery mildew is present in most places and just waiting for the right conditions. You do want to deal with it when it is present, but it shouldn’t be something that causes you to panic. Hope this doesn’t come across as negative or condescending, I just think that when it comes to diseases there can be so much fear and people will often rush to pull something out at the first sign of disease and miss out on harvesting from it. I do think your decision to pull it out was appropriate though!

Also sterilizing your pruners is a great way to prevent disease spread! Thanks for the encouragement to always be in a place of learning from others!

Acorn squash is also beautiful when cut around the equator in about half to one inch slices. The rings look like 🌺 flowers. Just roast the slices for a delicious side dish.

Cut acorn squash in half remove seeds put some butter and brown sugar in the center and bake 350 or so for half hour/45 min. Check if done and soft by poking with a fork.

You can roast and then stuff the acorn squash with whatever your family likes. It is so good! The spaghetti squash can also be stuffed, or you can use it as a replacement for regular pasta.

Spaghetti squash will absolutely ripen off the vine! I live in Alberta, Canada and my season is sometimes less than 90 days. Sadly, I usually have to pick the majority of my squash when they're still green. They still taste much better than store-bought tho IMO. Great job on a beautiful harvest my friend

I'm not sure about spaghetti squash specifically, but I'm assuming it's the same as pumpkins, you can harvest them when they start blushing and as long as you keep them in a sunny spot, they will finish ripening.

Love the Winter squash. I split the acorn squash in half, gut out the seeds, make a small slice off of the rib making it wabble the put a pat of butter in the middle and a little brown sugar, maple syrup or honey. Roast u til the flesh is soft. My mom use to stuff hers with a sausage mix. I roast the spaghetti squash, shred it and I've added some baked breaded chicken, sauce and mozzarella for semi healthy chicken parm. So many ways to cook and eat squash

We love dicing up squash with onions and garlic and other yumminess we might have in the veg drawer (carrots, celery, peppers, bok choy stalks) and make hash. We eat this on its own or with eggs or sausages for breakfast, brunch or breakfast for dinner.

I love roasting acorn squash but sometimes when I get home from work I'm too lazy to cut it up so I have started cooking in instant pot. Use a sharp knife and just poke a few times into the squash butternut or acorn then put into the pot with a cup of water then set pressure cooker on 29 minutes and cook. They turn out great!

Nice! I've been watching Little Mountain Ranch, who's in a shorter growing season, and she usually has to pick squash early due to impending frost, that aren't quite ripe, and ripens them in sunny windows . Seems to work well! Also I had a few last year I ripened inside too 😊

We always love a simple halved acorn squash. Just half em' flip up inside down in about a quarter inch of water, and put em in the oven for 35-40 minutes until the water is gone. take them out flip up inside up and sprinkle with cinnamon. It's our favorite for acorn and butternut. I have 2 little honeynut squash that I tried this year, we'll be cooking those in the next couple days. mmmmm squash

What can I do for cucumber beetles? I've never had them. I'm squishing them as I find them. I think I still have time in Texas 8b for them to finish out the months with good night time temps.
If you want to try a fabulous winter squash, I am dumbstruck over the Cherokee Tan/Seminole Pumpkins. It is absolutely delicious! The sweetest I've ever grown. I had to battle squash bugs all summer but got an abundance and it was worth it.
