  • "Nilagang Baka" is a Filipino dish that translates to "Boiled Beef" in English. It's a simple and hearty soup made with beef, potatoes, corn on the cob, green beans, and sometimes plantains, all boiled together in a clear broth. It's a popular comfort food in the Philippines and is known for its mild and savory flavor. The dish is typically seasoned with fish sauce or salt and is often served with rice and dipping sauces like fish sauce with calamansi (a type of citrus fruit) and crushed red pepper.

    We have Nilaga once a week. We use pork instead of beef and the bananas make it sweeter than I would ideally like so my wife will substitute potato which I love every now and then.

    Jo's version is completely different from tagalog version of nilagang baka ( boiled beef). The only ingredients you can see are the ff; beef shanks or whatever cut you like. Boil it with garlic, onions and peppercorn until beef is tender, then you can add potatoes and cabbage ( these are your only main ingredients). Flavor with patis or salt. Optional are green beans, banana (saba). We don't put ginger, but some people do to get rid of smell, and no chili (only on the side with patis and calamansi. Hope to see you cook it soon.

    I shopped at Walter Mart and the local wet market. I had a house manager/keeper and she made delish Nilaga! 😋
    Durian! 😂 Yeah, it stinks but ih it's so good!
    Also, back when I had my business, most of the food in Pinas was still "organic". That word was still not popular a few years ago but I'm not sure about now.
    I hope GMO hasn't reached the Philippines. People uses to wonder why vegetables such as onions and tomatoes are much smaller in the Philippines. It's because that is the natural size . It hasn't been generically modified. I pray it doesn't.
    The nilaga looks yummy! 😋

    Chewbaka cuz you could be chewing the baka (beef) for a bit due to toughness😁. Actually, "nilagang baka" is a Tagalog term. In Cebuano / Bisaya, it's called "pochero" or "pocherong binisaya" that traditionally uses beef shanks which is the best part due to the delicious and nutritious bone marrow. I think adding commercial beef broth ruins the experience of enjoying the natural flavor of the fresh beef and the rest of the fresh natural ingredients, not to mention that the broth most likely has other undesirable ingredients in it like MSG, etc. But that's just me. Saba bananas are for cooking; used in bananacue which is a popular street food. I avoid soups or the like (coffee, shakes, anything served with their ice, etc.) at commercial establishments AMAP because they use tap water. If I crave for soup, I make it at home with distilled water that I produce myself at home also and not with the commercial ones in plastic containers that could have been sitting in storage in hot temperatures (under the sun) for months on end. But that's just me. BTW, what is "bermans" at 0:09 ?

    • @CarefreeChris
      @CarefreeChris  Před 10 měsíci

She then said that she was not interested in meeting me that she was chasing her dreams and need to feed her kids. Coming here for getting to know a girl and speeding it up by internet meetings/chats is the usual shortcut wannabe expats take, but not the best of options for success. Much better and more promising is coming here to learn about the country and its people first before anything else.
      Once this is accomplished to a certain degree, then it is good to focus on getting to know more people, including ladies with the perspective of a relationship.
      Decent Filipinas cannot be taken in a couple of seconds or by a phoney live-chat. Those you can, are not decent. Bragging to be "rich" only attracts those type of girls, which need a walking ATM. I am not surprised you got this response.
      Parts of Cebu look poor? Yes, there are parts, which do look poor. Is this typical for Cebu or PH? Are there no parts in Canada, which also look poor? If it is all good there, isn't it better you stay where you are?
