- A lot of times, you will hear boxers say that Wing Chun does not work. However, they often utilize trapping techniques while in the ring or during sparring. Trapping involves briefly immobilizing an opponent's limbs to create a momentary opportunity for striking when they are unable to defend themselves. This technique effectively eliminates your opponent's defensive barriers. Wing Chun specializes in controlling the centerline and employing trapping techniques. Although Wing Chun is considered a traditional martial art, trapping and seizing an opponent's center can also be observed in various sport martial arts such as boxing. Kevin Goat discusses how boxers incorporate trapping into their strategies and suggests that the two disciplines should collaborate instead of competing against each other.

I feel that a hybrid system is the way to go, but people just do what you are comfortable with and look at combat sports to see what is effective versus just cool technique with iffy results. Always feel this channel and Kevin's solo specifically, do a good job of this. Giving options 👌
WING CHUN VS MUAY THAI
The video below shows 6 fights between WING CHUN fighters and Muay Thai fighters. The video was uploaded by a PRO Muay Thai channel.
Out of the 6 matches, muay thai fighters won 4 fights and wing chun fighters won 2 fights. The battles were closely fought and it was not easy victories for the muay thai fighters except for one where a Muay Thai fighter knocked out a Wing Chun fighter with a kick to the neck of a wing chun fighter.
The wing chun fighters excelled in fist fighting while the muay thai fighters excelled in kicking.
Wing Chun fighters need to improve their defense against kicks from Muay Thai fighters and to also improve their kicking skills

Trapping is also a thing in Filipino Martial Arts, just done outside angles
Yes it is :)
That is because of the influence of Chinese traders. They either brought the trapping ideas of White Crane Kung Fu (the ancestor art of Wing Chun) to the Philippines, or learned the ideas from the Filipinos and thereby influenced White Crane. The exact history is kind of fuzzy. Either way, Wing Chun and many Filipino arts are related.
Yes, Kali.
He also trains in Filipino martial arts here in Calgary
Trapping is also used in both northern and southern Praying Mantis styles, Bak Mei, Hung Gar, Wu Mei, to name just a few.
1:40 his going to destroy that open liver. Game Over.
If that technique has any application what so ever it's not that side.
However I would argue in the opposite side will still end bad with hard punch on the ribs followed by knockout punch to the chin
One of your better ones coach nice work 🎉❤
Great video
Always thought a style composed of both boxing and wing chun would be dangerous.
That’s why I created one :)
It seriously is, even just a minimal use one like we've seen some MMA fighters use. Kevin's is self-defense minded for the typical person and has had wonderful points for that but might need fine tuning if you are in a pure combat sport?
@@xXScissorHandsXx definitely like anything many techniques require 1000’s of hours of practice and pressure testing.
@Selfdefensegoat Hence why what you do and the lot at Bushido Bros' is invaluable. Helps cut down time to that pathway to a new or more honed skill greatly 👍
@@xXScissorHandsXx thanks bro. The BudoBrothers are good dudes
Captain, you are creative. Keep moving forward. Good luck

The Trump Org. is at its APEX.
Master can I suggest to apply a sweeping techique in this exercise? Another great video as always
Many things you can do :)
Love traditional wing chun lap sao, especially, when it's in Ip man's movies, and you can even see that lap sao, in the movie the legend is born - Ip Man
Now try it with a real opponent who is not standing still but fighting
He does actually.
It would be interesting to see you try this approach against a half decent boxer real time, not a compliant demo. And by the way most of wing chuns principles work fine with boxing gloves, jut, huen, gum, tan, lan, pak, jum, fuk all work just fine under pressure. Lap sao isn’t the only tool in wing chun…
They are both there such catch and shoot...watch Floyd it's all a matter styles that have the constant changes...
I know how boxers train to develop knockout power and you can see it in action.I’ve never seen a wing chun person knock anyone out and how does wing chun train for power punching
Coming from my boxing experience our foot work and ability to catch opponents timing makes up lethal. So I advise wing chun guys learn from pro boxers first.
Wing chun is both overrated and underrated, thanks for being realistic with it though, your videos are some of the best wing chun application tutarials
For the street WC is geared at maiming and deleting people, not punching them. All or nothing, now or never. 5-second fights. If it gets to 10 seconds then you're not being aggressive enough. Or you're in over your head. That's not at all unique to WC, either.
For the ring sports where there are gloves and limitations on targets, using straight WC just about can't work regardless of the skill level. Adding in some centerline and *multiple trapping combinations* to a striker's game has some potential benefit in a controlled environment in the ring. But there's definitely a point of diminishing returns when the rules don't allow to follow the sequence to the end. An MMA fighter wouldn't have much use for anything other than some basics into the low intermediate levels. Better ROI to stop at a certain point to spend more time on their other skills.
Using a single trap isn't even a thing in WC except as an introductory step for the beginners. That's because the opposition will *always* follow up. That's where training to handle multiple reactions comes in handy. WC trapping is about closing the distance, initiating and maintaining contact with the intent of defeating 3-4 or more followups, not zero followups. And pulling the opposition off their structure before going after the end target. There is no clash/back off to a distance as in boxing; it's clash and stay there toe-to-toe until it's over. 1 block/parry+ 1 punch is a raw beginner move, not a plan. 5 blocks/traps prior to any offense is more typical in legit WC training, which TBH is rare in the McDojo world.
Of the Yip brothers in WC, the older brother always had *much* more legit form than the younger brother or anyone who came up in that line. You can see it when comparing the older brother's form to that of the old man. Samuel Kwok came up under the older brother and he/his people have great form. Very clean when compared to the variants which trace back to the younger brother. There are some others who came up via the older brother, too. (I say that as a complete outsider to the Hong Kong versions of WC).
Isn’t Krav Maga better than all of them? For example isn’t it faster to learn which makes it less prohibitive to take on?
You can also rip the elbow up (toy sao) to expose the body for the shovel hook. I'm also partial to pinning the elbow after a roll. Theres far more room for combination than there is reason to complain. Just ask Bruce Lee or Vasily Lomachenko.
Wing Chun is just a brand of dirty boxing native to southern Chinese rivers and port cities.
But u forget one very important concept. Boxers fight in the ring every day. They learn controlled aggression. And have the guts to fight. Wing chun never fight .2 things will happen. They will either freeze up or loose there . Cool. They simply won't have the heart.
Depende el estilo de cada boxeador 😊
Very good video! The biggest downfall in a “fight” between Wing Chun vs Boxing is the opposite perspective on fighting. Wing Chun practitioners don’t by default have the stamina or strength to compete in a boxing match; especially considering that kicks elbows and finger strikes are forbidden. But in a street fight, unless it’s’ make believe it is even worse. But here is the real conundrum. The Boxer Rebellion is what prompted growth and investment into Boxing and Wrestling/BJJ. Wing Chun is the advanced Kung fu so master to master in a school setting there is a definite learning curve that Wing Chun has over Boxing.
I like this video explaining the mitt issue. A good approach towards shared learning, which Master Wong promotes, is practice sparring both with gloves then after practice Wing Chun techniques of trapping and hand wrist to elbow block and strikes.❤
Che differenza c'è con il muay thai?
Of course, Boxing is better than Wing Chun, what is Wing Tzun for then?
You first person to mention mma gloves increase the chances of using wing chun skills because all of them are based on open handed ideas. Next you do tell them Dan insanstos with Bruce Lee created the prototype for mma gloves
What is trapping? I'm not from America and England, but learn English, and can't translate it, there's only one way of translate, trap for mouses, and so on
If you search for Wing Chun trapping, it'll probably give better results for you but it is basically "trapping" by way of holding a limb which hampers your opponent's ability to attack/defend, as well as giving you an opening for your own attacks. I hope that wasn't too badly done for the translation side to handle 😬
@@xXScissorHandsXx thanks i got it )
@@MartinMelikyan The term "trapping" comes from the Jeet Kune Do world and reffers to pinning your opponents arms down or immobalizing them so they are not able to hit you back whilst you attack. In Jeet Kune Do this is also called a Hand(or leg) Immobalizing Attack. The problem with this is the focus is often on controlling the arms before striking. This means your attack will be in the same timeframe as your opponents potential counter, as explained in the video. In Wing-Chun pinning an arm before attacking is chasing hands and is against it's principles.
In Wing-chun you only use slapping, pushing, pulling and pinning motions after your initial attacks are obstructed. This is to create a new line of attack or to clear the initial path. In order to have the least amount of chance to get hit with a couter strike you prefferably want to be on the outside of your opponents attack as far away from the rear hand as possible. To achieve this the opponent is often "spun" away instead of moving around your opponent. There's a few key components ingrained in the basic structure of Wing-chun to aid this one of which is the rooted stance and the other is the "fixed" elbow position. If you move and punch correctly there's not a huge need for motions that clear obstructions.
Not allowed in a Boxing Ring. But on the streets surviving, the sky is the limit.
Lomo does a lop da all the time but he does not call that because he thinks he created the skill
the reality is that wing Chun doesn't work because is designed for deluted guys that like anime and workship chinese girls you guys want to learn real fighting skills ? Learn Muay Thai, jui jitsu and boxing
if its good enough for Lomachenko, its good enough for you.
I don't like the Lifestyle of apeople living and travelling on Gaiam before we arrived.
Hello I can't understand why are you keep on trying to mix a competition based fighting sport like boxing with a theory based self-defense martial art like Wing Chun first of all in boxing they really spar and boxers know how to take a punch and know how react to being punched . And Wing Chun their so-called sparring is actually role-playing in boxing we don't teach cross blocking although some gifted boxers can get away with cross blocking that is still considered unorthodox and yes some fighters like lomachenko can get away with pulling down the guard and punching but not everyone is a lomachenko as I had said before in one of your other videos show us and real-time against a real boxer that these techniques work against the boxer and I will be the first one to admit that this works I've been coaching for or 20 years in boxing and theories like this just don't work even for the seasoned professional boxer all due respect and cheers
Give a hit to take a hit 😏
Is KRAV maga Indian? See the message.
Wing chun is more closer to the old school systems of bare knuckle pugilism before the queensbury rules style boxing.
LOL....NO
Boxing is much better.
Bruce Lee won the Hong Kong highschool boxing championship using wing chun. This was a time when HK was under English rule and Boxing was white people sport, however Bruce won so decisively not even the British judges could rig it. Bruce Lees opponent was a reigning British (white) person too. Bruce KO him with Wing Chun punch.
niice.
