2:20 A scientist combined sodium and helium... oh Na He didn't!
Master Therion Good one. Desirves a like
Master Therion haha ..nice
this was very hard to read. absolutely disgusting.
no
For a satanist, you're not completely bad
"Extreme pressure, that's cute" - Black Hole
MultiWafflemaster well a black hole is more extreme gravitational pull than pressure
360pinkscope Pressure is just force applied pr area. The crazy gravitational force, and relatively small area would indeed provide truely extreme pressure
Black holes when you have make the basic workings of the universe go screwy accept no substitute
Phat Pasta 8
“Black Hole, that’s cute”-Singularity
Matter under pressure...that's me right now. Finals are tomorrow...
good luck
When you're done the pressure vanishes abd you'll have a swell day.
Sapphire gem well that is how gems are created, under pressure
And why are you not studying?
Sounds like schools on your world follow a peculiar academic calendar. We've only just had our first mid-term exams where I am.
Were you guys under extreme pressure to make this?
Does it "matter"?
Master, I applaud you.
Hypersonic
Every time someone makes a pun, a person uses a puppy to clobber a small child.
Had to google "clobber", still not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing. Damn you English
Laura: www.dictionary.com/browse/clobber - it's not a good thing: "verb (used with object), Slang. 1. to batter severely; strike heavily"
God dammit Carlos!
I was kind of hoping to hear a little more about the interesting chemical properties of the compounds produced under such extreme pressure.
I think you are one of the better to listen to. You're calm, easy to keep up and have a soothing voice. Keep it up!
What about the opposite? What reactions we take for granted in our day to day life here on the surface of the Earth wouldn't work in an environment with less pressure?
L Galicki Band cooking,
Because water will boil at lower temperatures
wouldn't work, not work more effectively
nvm mind
This guy makes me realise we take Hank for granted
Chemistry in a vacuum is boring indeed.
1:33 *insert joke about Uranus and its super high pressure here*
microbuilder it needs pressure to deficate
*buhdum tsss*
How deeply should I insert it?
"oil and water don't mix... Unless it's deep in Uranus..."
it's BEE oh my lord
4:16 So basically we keep creating laws and some years later we keep breaking those laws
i mean thats pretty much how we humans work in general
Tiny little "oops" at 3:46
When I'm pressured, I tend to cry
Under pressure pushing down on me pushing down on you
...no man ask for...
queen and David Bowie
Under pressure, that burns a building down, splits a family in two, puts people on the streets....

Pressure! Pushing down on me...
this is a highly valuable youtube channel
the irony that I hate science when I'm being taught it by my teacher but I love to read sci fi or videos like these-
How many of these elements or substances can retain their new properties when the pressure is released? Are there many more examples like diamond or is carbon a rare exception?
when someone never closes his eyes and keep staring into your soul for the rest of the video
This channel is just satisfying to watch
This was the best video i have ever seen on this channel. soo much content in so little time
Could you also make a video about matter behaving in very _low_ pressure?
Thank - you .
*If everything is made of matter*
*does everything matter?*
To me, everything matters, even if it is energy. Because I represent the initial singularity (well, my law firm does to be accurate. We are currently suing all religions for false claims).
Blue Muffin depends because what we think of matter could actually be antimatter
matter constitutes a really small part of the universe though.
*do I matter?*
Everything is made of Energy if we were made of Matter we wouldn't exist right?
Thanks man, good stuff.
Absolutely smashing!
This episode got me jazzed about science
love you man!
metallic gases are crazy cool thoughts.
PUSHING DOWN ON ME
PRESSING DOWN ON YOU, NO MAN ASK FOR
Wow .. four years ago Michael ... such a surprise!
Wow! These behaviours were surprising! Superb video! Thanks a lot Scishow! Love from 🇮🇳
Please blink your eyes from time to time...
Very interesting video, btw...
Don't stop me now... Literally can't get that song out of my head
Excellent video. The flow into each subject was smooth, and the sponsor ad execution was done really well. I can't think of a way at this time to improve on the video. Thank you for the video.
Direct current isn’t used on the transmission lines as you described and showed with a picture
Nice video!
awesome dude. i had never thought about a metal becoming an insulator..
Great channel.😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
This was video was posted after my last birthday yay sci show
I'm addicted to stress it's the way that i get things done.
If I'm not under pressure then I sleep too long,
and I hang around like a bum,
and I think I'm going nowhere and that make me nervous...
Thank god for Jim.
"You'd find metallic hydrogen which continues all the way to the core" - How/when was this observed?
thank you for introducing me to brilliant
‘So what do you do for a living?’
“Smushing stuff.”
3:45 like the Galileo probe before.. WOOPS :)))))
Just seeking help on a clearer understanding: how much pressure does a single gigapascal represent?
About 10,000 times Earth's atmospheric pressure
I guess you could say, they have a brilliant promotion.
It's the terror of knowing what this world is about and watching some good friend scream "Let me out!"
Oh wow it's almost like I watched this exact video but in more detail somewhere else. Man where could that be.
Under Pressure so filling my thoughts.
Honestly the thing about metallic Hydrogen doesn't surprise me too much since it is grouped with the alkali metals
Why the all the thumbs down?! Scishow is awesome!
2:58 - "exotic noble gas compounds"
Insert joke about Uranus and "exotic gases"
ok if Jupiter has a metallic hydrogen core then our Sun (much bigger and with much more hydrogen) should also have a similar core. right?
Yes, our sun has liquid metallic hydrogen. I suspect that the planet, Jupiter, has liquid metallic hydrogen as well. With the workability of the Electric universe, I see Jupiter as a kind of star. I see blurring of the traditional definition of a star or a planet.
Under pressure*
*logic pops up outta no where*
Next up the 8+ phases of mater! PLEASE!
I like the way this was integrated into the promotion. I am very likely to try brilliant now...
Under Pressure....
*Queen and David Bowie appear*
They're dead... I think we just get Robert Van Winkle now. 😢
Last time I saw Queen next to David Bowie he made some remark about a beautiful Duwang
Ba ba ba bada ba ba (famous bass line stolen by vanilla ice)
Jay Workman I feel your pain too I miss David Bowie also 😔😢
I am not David boweeereewr
Diamond Anvil Cell. That's going to be the name of my deathmetal Queen cover band.
Heard of 17 kinds of "ice" formed under extreme pressure in planets.
All right stop! Collaborate and listen.
Michael, Michael oh sweet Mike. I miss you on scishow. I should have suspected when your highlight was gone. You tricky electron changing wavelengths of light
Crash course is lucky to have gained you but scishow misses you Michael.
Great, now i have to listen to Ice Ice Baby cause I have the song Under Pressure in my head.... wait...
Pressure also burns building down and puts people on the streets.
that's so inetersting! so metal can be different elements depending on pressure!
That was cool.
Its much more easier to remember and understand if you animate this.
What equipment did they use to actually observe the reaction in the diamond press?
Ah, yes. Dr. Mercury once gave a fascinating lecture on this subject. In the form of a musical composition, no doubt! 🧐🎩
Dunununununurun... Under pressure...
Shockwave Shockwave
Probably should've spaced the first bit out
Electrons don’t move quickly in wires especially AC high tension lines. They move back and forth over a short distance. Even DC current doesn’t move very quickly. Only the impulse end to end does.
@3:16 you showed alternating current electrical power transmission lines and the graphic implies direct current...but i applaud and forgive such a minor discrepancy since you guys are new to this real science stuff
Why are there exotic high-pressure compounds around Uranus?
I think more pics and videos of these things actually happening would've been nice
I’m so fuckin’ jazzed rn.
"all sort of wierd things can happen under extreme pressure" agreed
Ahhhhh. The pressure. I can’t take it 🤪
Matter breaks under the pressure - I proved it with own body on my last university test.
Actually there are a variety of organic light oils that will dissolve in water at room temperature & pressure.
Under Pressure- Hot Space- Queen, David Bowie
What are the practical use for Sodium Helide?
Surely you're feeling pressured to dump that pylon graphic. It would be AC and the electron speed shown is misleading. I=nave and from what I can recall is a few centimetres per hour in a household wire, depending.
Also quartz turns into coesite in what’s known as “ultra high pressure” conditions. The pressure needed for this are 2-3 gigapascals, just somewhere under the graphite to diamond transition.
Gigachadscals*
Under pressure! Pushin down on me! Pushin down on you. No man ask for.
Pleases do a video on thermoelectric generation
Why thank you
What are the electrical properties of sodium helide molecules. Seems to me it could be very useful if we could get around the pressure issues.
Hair is on fleek
If diamond is strong enough to squeeze molecules and not leak, then it must be strong enough to encapsulate such molecules after such exterior pressure is removed....
"every diamond in my chain yea thats a milestone"
Under PRESSURE!
This is a really important part in understanding igneous and metamorphic processes in geology too. It's broadly known as liquid immiscibility, although we also add a dimension of temperature as well.
Suggestion: when showing units, display a couple more variations (like at 1:14)
2GPa, 20,000atm and ???PSI, ???mmHg all at the same time. Helps me relate a little better, to help visualize how freaking big that number is.
Wow. Pressure really matters. ;)
Watching some good friends screaming let me out !
So we talked about the mixture made with liquid methane and water under high pressure, but when the pressure is released, does the mixture still hold or does it separate again?
This was interesting
Yay now I can completely contradict what I have learnt about metals and insulators during school this year and mention this in my exams and 'complain about getting the answer wrong' by showing them proof with this video :D
- And no I wouldn't do this as I don't fail my exams
Serious questions- what happens to the compounds formed under intense pressure after the pressure is removed? Do the 'weird' characteristics disappear? Do the oil & water separate? Is there a threshold? Is that threshold meaningful in any way?
Was expecting something about strange quarks because you said "extreme" pressure.
Dealing with some "noble" Gas right now myself.
Forgot "Scores a overhead kick at JUANfield"
