- The Rebel Alliance has destroyed the Death Star, defeated Darth Vader and the Emperor, and driven the remnants of the old Imperial Starfleet to a distant corner of the galaxy.
Princess Leia and Han Solo are married and expecting Jedi twins. And Luke Skywalker has become the first in a long-awaited line of Jedi Knights.
But thousands of light-years away, the last of the Emperor's warlords has taken command of the shattered Imperial fleet, readied it for war, and pointed it at the fragile heart of the New Republic....

The much requested opening crawl for Heir to the Empire Part One. Due to copyright bot issues uploading the movie with the crawl, it had to be released as it's own video so it doesn't put the movie itself at risk.

Lucas didn't have the writing talent (actually he wasn't the writer, but had creative control in Star Wars 6, whereas Gary Kurtz had creative control and writing in Star Wars 4 and 5), as demonstrated with Return of the Jedi (with Kurtz and his entourage being kicked out of the Star Wars franchise). Lucas had always been taking credit and buying the writing and work of more talented writers in movies like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Labyrinth, etc. With Lucas' reputation and good-will having run out in the late 80s (he was a known no-talent hack by then), the end of the Cold War (which significantly changed the Cultural zeitgeist), and with the Star Wars franchise floundering (no market for new Star Wars audiences, since no new content or creative production), Lucas had no choice but to release creative control to talented "outsider" authors...
You know the rest - Zahn, Andreson, Stackpole, etc.
These were the TRUE "Heirs" to Kurtz's Star Wars Empire.
These are the creators who built a new Star Wars fandom and extended Star Wars Canon (and it WAS Canon), to such an extent that by the late 90s, Lucas sought to again go back to his treacherous business practices and revoke the agreements establishing these novels as Canon, tried to supplant and exploit this new audience built by Zahn and Company WITHOUT including these superior creators in the profits, and replaced their superior creations and writing using his own typically amateurish creative control in the writing of "the Star Wars Prequels" like "The Phantom Menace"...which yet AGAIN demonstrated what an inferior creator Lucas was compared to Kurtz (and Zahn).
