I was wondering what the difference was between the Kaipak 28. Many things set it apart. The hip belt pockets, fully zipper opening, option to add side pocket, buggies on the back for wet tarps. The Kaipak 28 is missing all of this.
Yes, this is probably the initial version. If you want a complete version, you may have to move to a larger version.
I’m thinking about getting this for a bushcraft bag. Just haven’t made my mind up about it
I think it's perfect with the front opening. But may need to add extra bags.

Do they make a pouch that connects on the back ? I know they make it for the sides.
No, but has a steel frame compartment.
Does the carry handle rub against your neck?
No, It's OK!
Would have traded the backpack in for a bigger car though👍
