I think it starts with using the right language, as a PBS plan (PBSP) could be called a PS Plan ie Positive Support Plan (PSP). The word ‘behaviour’ is easily misunderstood or misused, and that’s where the power imbalance starts, I feel.
A college I visited was good in the sense that they asked people what they wanted their PBSP to be called, and adapted it - as asked.
And it should be stated right at the start of a PBSP that the PBSP looks at everyone’s behaviour such as those supporting the person, because although we know that is a fact, it’s rarely ever written.
It’s not that applied behavioural analysis is all bad, but a good PSP (rather than PBSP) can be a useful tool for do’s and don’ts re what the person will respond to or not respond to, as far as people know.
Really great to have these discussions, and really great to hear about people with Learning Disabilities also being defended. LD doesn’t mean you are less than others, as so often it is like that.

I agree with much of what is said here…I think it’s not a good way to understand people… and based on flawed hypotheses about understanding what a person thinks… heartily sick of these approaches
