"This run will never get old!" | Wailuku Joy Lap

I've said it before but I will say it again, the Wailuku is one of the best stacked day runs I have ever done. Plenty of smaller boots, a few mid size drops to air out on, as well as one of the coolest 50 foot drops to get your heart rate up. Witch such easy access, warm water, perfect drops, it's just hard to beat.

I've watched so many of your videos and am just so inspired to become a better kayaker. [Freestyle, downriver playing, and creekboating] Thank you so much for really being safe and aware and showing us viewers that you have the strength to portage something even though you might feel pressured to run it. I have done some white water rafting in the big 8 man blow ups... but I've always wondered what it feels like going off a waterfall like this. Do you have to tense up so you don't get the wind knocked out of you of is it fairly smooth with some turbulence at the bottom similar to a wave hold down in surfing?

Dane, how do you check whether there is a any Rock bottom of the falls before making a fall into it ? Its my long time curious about it!

A lot of the time we try to see the waterfall without water to see the landing and potentially swim around the base. Although if we can’t see it without water there are certain things that often make it possible to know it’s deep enough. Like big open pools at the landing, big boils at the bottom, or if it disconnects out and away from the wall. We also give it a good scout before sending it.

Glad you didn't run that waterfall. Honestly, your fans and sponsors love you for your great personality and your amazing paddling skills, not for your daring on big waterfalls. I for one would wish that you lay off on the really big drops. You have nothing left to prove and one day one of those will break you. I know you have your head screwed on straight, but your perception of risk has slowly skewed to the point where insane drops seem normal to you. Love your stuff, keep living the great life.
