I think there definitely needs to be a critical re-evaluation of Gaga’s Alejandro video and it’s importance in showcasing queerness in traditionally, and strictly, masculine/structured spaces (e.g. the military and religion)! Gaga was making a powerful statement that felt ahead of its time.

I was 8 when this song was released gaga was my fave at the time. I got yelled at by my teacher for saying Alejandro was my favourite song, but she said no child should listen to it lmao

the great thing about this video is that, like all art, it's open to interpretation. my analysis and/or takeaway, is all about the toxicity of religion. Gaga is the sole woman of an army whose job, so it seems, is to enforce specifically Christianity upon many. the most poignant moments, in my opinion, are at the beginning when she is holding what many have interpreted to be the Heart of Christ, as well as when she is dressed like a nun swallowing a Rosary, which can be seen as people quite literally shoving religion down others' throats. furthermore, some conspiracy illuminati theorists believe that alejandro, fernando, and roberto, are code for the Holy Trinity. i personally think that is some paranoid BS, but it's interesting to think that Gaga was a slave to the oppression of religion under the Catholic faith, and by the end of the video, renounced such a stigma. again, i have a lot of thoughts on this video--it's one of my favorites. but until Gaga decides (if ever) to tell us what to think, who knows! PS, Steven, pretty please do more Gaga content! i live for it ♥️

Cool reaction. Gaga's videos are amazing. I don't think we can say they're really so ahead of time. Madonna did it before and she was already inspired by others, so it's more about the artist looking for the right references and bringing a little more, adapting references to their style. Gaga did it and keeps doing it.

Madonna used to make black and white videos (Vogue), and she has a video where flaming crosses appear and she dances with a black christ (Like a Prayer) but that's it, Madonna never did a video like Alejandro.
