  • Last year was the start of what I wanted to be the beginning of a whimsical Cottage Garden- we had A LOT of troubles- the hardest garden season we've ever had. That being said we cut a lot of corners just to get a garden in, in time. So now that we have the time, we are going back to our 2021 & 2022 No Dig Market Style garden design which Scott learned from Richard Perkins, who has a youtube channel here: / @regenerativeagriculture
So we decided to merge the 2 concepts!
We are excited to see how this season goes!
Background music by Rick Nieuwenhuis, check out his beautiful work: / rick-nieuwenhuis

Woman liking whimsical and man liking straight lines, is the story of mine and Rick's garden and landscaping lives. 😅
Beautiful garden. Love the way you combined the 2 styles.

I think you might be interested in a wonderful gardener named Charles Dowding. He's on CZcams and is incredibly knowledgeable about no-dig gardens. Great job on your garden! It's beautiful. If you still want a cottage look to your garden, plant flowers around your fence (on both sides). It'll bring in the pollinators and give an aesthetic look you're looking for.

Please, I don’t normally do this, but I don’t recommend using coir by itself. It will work but not nearly as well as mixing some of it in with another option of seedstarting mix.
Our hilltop garden has had green patches that I’m slowly doing away with. I learned that from my garden down here on the bottom land. Much more French intensive and got its start with many loads of wood chips.
    So excited for you all!

Oh Kelli, I can still see the whimsy of a cottage garden along with practical space for food production. Although I find cottage gardens beautiful and I definitely lean that way in our landscape, my bend seems to always be practical production when it comes to growing food. I find ways to put seating in all the areas where there is gardens producing along with pots with flowers placed about and in some cases actually planting marigolds in the raised beds with some plant varieties. Last year I also found ways to add bird baths to some spaces but will add more this year as well. This will provide water for the pollinators I want in the garden. I need to get some hoops up too as last year the birds would pull out the seeds as they popped thru the dirt. I bought a bunch of hula hoops and cut them in half. I then covered and secured netting to the hoops and secured along the bottom as well. I did the same for my mom and it proved to be an inexpensive way to accomplish a big task and it was effective. It was also easy to store the supplies over the winter.
Your space will be beautiful as it fills in, which will happen in no time! Well done! Lord, Bless Scott and Kelli’s garden that it may be bountiful beyond their imagination. May it also be a place of peace and rest where they know you’ll be watching over them. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Hi Cheryl! That is such a great idea with the hola hoops cut in half! And love that you put bird baths all around as well! Always love hearing your garden adventures!

Looks lovely! We are looking forward to gardening this year, but it will be a while before we can do anything outdoors. We just had a snowstorm this week. The weather looks nice and warm where you are located.
