What do you think of the Virtual Boy?
Reminds me that time Hilldawg ran in 2016
I have a virtual boy. I have not gotten any headaches nor eye strain from it. Only bad thing is my neck gets sore after using it.
It was a secret communist plot to give everyone a sore neck! /s
Gam sal mak the vitural buy not suk.
I think it's one of the two reasons that Nintendo didn't push bleeding edge tech in following systems. The other being the N64. I imagine in the board room at Nintendo a big board on the wall, on that is pictures of both the N64 and Virtual boy with stats on how much they lost them and any time someone mentions going for more advanced and powerful hardware, someone points at that board.
I guess all the red blood that Nintendo censored in MK was used for the vb
VIRTUAL boy. @Kevinrosa
Virtual
Very clever.
Yeah, there was tons of censored blood in Mario Kart.
Yup
*CONGRATS ON A QUARTER OF A MILLION SUBS!!!*
this is literally the only gaming channel on youtube that i watch EVERY SINGLE VIDEO. joe deserves millions of subs.
@@Gatorade69 Dave should get credit for many of those subs too, don't leave him out!
@@ActuallySanFrancisco I think the channel deserves even more as well, but keep in mind it also has better viewer consistency than a lot of larger channels. In terms of views, it's probably up there with many million sub channels. I've watched almost every single video. Can't really say that for any other channels.
It was about the time! GS deserves more
@@ActuallySanFrancisco Agreed, Game Sack manages to feel like a real polished TV show about games, if that makes any sense. It doesn't have the rambling style of some other CZcamsrs.
I’ve never seen a product go from “new” to “clearance” faster than this.
It was a bigger fail than the 32x, but without this maybe the 3DS would not have had 3D and without that gimmick, it would not have sold as well.
Laughs un stadia
Maybe the Playstation Classic is the only thing that comes rather close.
I remember seeing a bargain bin full of unsold copies of Suikoden 2 just mere weeks after it came out.
Sweet advertisement
Just wanted to commend you on the commitment to the colour scheme (used judiciously to save our eyeballs) and also going above and beyond, showing off the homebrews (and what the VB is capable of - street fighter looks great!) and that you bought a RGB out to give us such a clean image. A winner is you!

@@phoenixair11 nope. It was me. You're clean
Wow I run into you guys at all my usual haunts. Watching for a long, long time it's hilarious how our global wrestling and gaming circles still intersect in such a "small world" way!
Me watching the opening: "Oh god please tell me Joe didn't make the whole episode red"
Joe 15 seconds later: "I can't do these scenes this way"
Me: 🙏
Your episode run in 2020 might be your best year Joe. Thank you for the content
the worst year, the best Game Sack
Game Sack was MY vaccine for 2020
My favourite channel during 2020
"Gunpie Yocoy", ok now you're just trolling :D
By the way, I think it's a damn shame that Nintendo never ported these games to 3DS. I think it would've been a great preservation effort. They could even have added new color modes if you don't want the typical redness.
Gun is my favorite flavor of pie.
or switch vr
I'd be happy with a remaster of the Wario game for Switch. Just improve the sound, make it run on Switch, and add colours, beyond just red.
They don’t want people to remember
If Joe is trolling, I'll allow it.
I feel the VB controller is extremely comfortable. People don’t sing it’s praises enough.
When you switched briefly to footage of Blade Eagle my eyes were like _omg COLOR ... it's so beautiful_
😅
you don't know what you're missing until you have to live without it. i agree, the blues of the Blade Eagle footage were like water to a desert-parched throat, haha
I think this is the video that really solidifies it for me: you've come into your own as a solo CZcamsr.
Why does it translate to slurp slurp slurp slurp when I try to change the language on this?
Yea! New Sack! The Virtual Boy was largely a product of the mid-ninetie’s zeitgeist that was predicated by the wave of the then juvenile technology: the net, virtual reality and 3D coming into the fore.
Joe, you’re virtually the best reviewer in cyberspace 🎮💻🕹📟📼
I miss Dave at times...
However, the bloody cross-eyed bits prove that Joe can carry the show solo, and keep it fully entertaining!
A real missed opportunity would have been a port of doom for the virtual boy
Yes! Crazy that there's only one game in first person perspective on the system...
Dam... never considered that, literal mind blowing aside that would have been interesting.
And Duke Nuke'm 3D for the Virtual Boy.
The episode from AVGN about The Virtual Boy is still one of my favourites so seeing it get the Game Sack treatment is nice to see.
The eye bits were killing me. Damn Joe this was brilliant.
I think by the episodes end when Joe looks like he's back to normal, I think he's really gotten himself a pair of glass eyes
Remember completing Wario Land on VB. FFS my neck still remembers it well to this day as well....
“Megami Tensai”
“Related to Persona”
Oh you...
I've actually been playing some VB emulation on my Oculus. It's been pretty nice being able to enjoy Mario Clash and Wario Land in 3D without the headaches.
Won’t it still cause you headaches?
Only if VR, in general causes you headaches@@user-lr4sd2cw6d
I didn’t realize the music I usually associate with AVGN is actually from Nesters Funky Bowling. Neat
Very good video! Like always! Just one thing about “V Tetris”. They have a optional mode, that twist the gameplay. You can rotate the base. It’s a nice feature. I have two Virtual Boys with 16 games.
Can it really be called a golf game without Craig Stadler?
It can, unless it's called Pebble Beach.
@@TheCraigStadler I think i can get it inside yours.
Craig Virtual Stadler in red and black certainly is rad.
Unless you're staring down Fred Couple's Amazing Holes.
The 3D effect is remarkably good on the Virtual Boy. Especially considering the technology behind the console and that the graphics are just layered 2D sprites instead of true 3D polygons.
I played this in a mall at the time it was released, and even at the age of 10 I thought it wasn't going to last.
Same, I played the VB at Toys R Us. I was like 9 or 10 at the time and I was shocked at how terrible it looked. It was also uncomfortable. Never had any desire owning one.
1 yr asked for a PlayStation for xmas. Instead got this giant red thing that left a ring around my eyes.
My mom said 'it was cheaper'
Yikes!
Even though PlayStation got bigger & much better lunch titles?
@@Nestalgba92023 It worked out. Next bday she made it right with a Ps1 & Crash Bandicoot

I wish Dave could see this Fabulous Nintendo Product for himself. Why did he have leave us 😭.
That Hyper Fighting version of Street Fighter is really impressive. I wonder what its library would've looked like if this project was a financial success and it had more like that or the Wario game. We'll never know.
I own the Virtual Boy. I purchased the display system with the original box and all for $25. I played Mario Tennis and Wario Land and I still own both games. The graphics were/are great!
Thank you Sack for making this.
I used to be a virtual boy now I’m a real boy
I use to be Pinocchio but now I just pokeyourho

IM GONNA BE A REAL BOYYY
Sweet 50% off.
Game Sack is my favorite stock sound effects channel
Teleroboxing looks like it would be up my alley... that animation is legit for a game of that era
Had to look up Craig Stadler to get the reference. He actually Would make any game better
Think you could get it inside mine?
Someone call?
Get out of here Craig stadler!!!!I'm not going to tell you again!!!I should have known you could make it lol
@@rufusray The utterance of my name is like a moth drawn to a flame.
Much as those who do arcade cabinet improvement mods to the VB: “the game will turn around in the end...”
Laughed till my eyes turned crossed !! Almost chocked on my drink of laughter on the first crossed eyes thanks for the laughs you guys are the best !
That intro was so well done!
Always impressed with the editing on these videos.
Aint nothing better than getting a notification for gamesack.
I love virtual boy. If only it has more games, imagine mario kart on VB will be epic
This VR thing was my childhood dream as I read about Doom in VR headsets. I'm so glad VR headsets are affordable these days. Have no problem wearing PS VR for several hours as long as games are not in red and black )))
Can you do a video on 3D games for PS3 or your favourite VR games?
I have a problem when the movement doesn't seem natural. I tried Skyrim in VR, and I had to walk slow. Worse are games that won't let you walk, but you have to "jump" around the playfield, and the screen changes rapidly.
@@AlucardsQuest I've prepared myself to VR with 3D games on PS3 and 3DS :)
Sometimes movement in VR feels much too smooth for a real life making the brain think we ate something poisonous (toxins change our perception) and need to vomit asap.
When this happens I shake and nod my head and body a little to create the feel of those natural movement bumps.
Try repeating your meditation mantra (if you have one) and slow breathing (4 seconds inhale, 7 seconds hold and 8 seconds exhale). It reduces the adrenaline in the body thus helping with both headche and nausea. To relax stiffen shoulders, neck, jaws and eyes helps a lot too.
Some parts of PS VR headset push on my temples causing headache after some time. So I wear my light earphones with small headband under the helmet to prevent this.
Nice timing. I was JUST in the middle of an hours long Game Sack binge on this otherwise slow Saturday night on CZcams. Love the Sack!
Now I want to see someone speedrun Castlevania for Gameboy emulated by the Virtual Boy.
I loved the skits in-between the games that had me cracking up.
I saw the tweet that you posted about some "company" offering to edit your videos for you because it's "tedious" and "cumbersome" or whatever nonsense they were trying to sell. Really? Could you imagine someone other than Joe editing these? It would suck! I'm sure your editing is far better than what they had to offer to begin with. We know that you love to edit, Joe. It's what makes your videos so damn good, and it shows. I had a good laugh at that tweet.
@@Gatorade69 Yo!
Couldn’t agree more Joe is one of the highest quality editors on CZcams, they should be paying him to edit their videos.
There are some good editors on CZcams, but Joe is a step above the best. I appreciate his attention to detail.
@@AlucardsQuest I think that's because he works, or at least used to, as a professional editor and it really shows in the quality of this show.
So epic vid. 😍 I got one in college in 2009 and a month later I had two retina tears in both eyes and needed emergency laser treatment.Truth. I wish Nintendo would virtual console release Wario Land..uh and the zelda cdi games. 🤷♀️🤭
I could have seen this being re-released on the Virtual Console on the 3DS with a black/white pallet option.
Loved the first intermission between games when you were cross-eyed, lol. That bomberman music on the panic bomber port was cool to hear. Always love the music in those games. Just played through the Gameboy Advance Bomberman Tournament game and the music was a joy throughout, which is pretty rare for the GBA.

Just stop watching red filter videos during bed time.
@@Nestalgba92023 isn't red light supposed to be better for the eyes before bed these days and blue light is bad? 🤷♂️ life is so confusing.
My Eyes, the goggles do nuthin' ....
You need to do a Wonderswan episode now. It would be a good followup, since the two are somewhat related.
These videos are so professionally made, it's amazing that it's all the work of one guy. Well done Joe.
but, i wanted the video in red and black...
No Craig Stadler?? Wtf am I even playing golf for then?
I used to play Galactic Pinball for HOURS. It's just so relaxing. I love that game.
I got my Virtual Boy brand new for $25 back when Toys R Us was clearing their stock. I have so much fun playing the system and still play it to this day. Wario is by far the best game on the system, it is one of my all-time favorite games.
@@Gatorade69
My brother got the 32x for the same reason, from Toys R Us, too, like you said.
10:21 Tell that to Tetris Effect.
Yeah, and tell Tetrisphere, too.
i loved my virtual boy!
Great job with the editing as always.
This goes to show that good games can be made for any platform. I know developers can be limited by time/budget, but talented developers can design a good game regardless of hardware.
I love the after credit bits....
I'm thinking of getting one just for Wario Land, pretty much.
The second you do, they will announce a remake on another platform.
@@GameSack I was just curious to see how my eyes would bleed out, and the only game to make it worth it was Wario Land lol.
@@RetroMoments First time I played it I got so sick I had to lie down for a while. You kinda get used to it, but never for prolong gaming periods.
One game? Just emulate it. The 3D isn’t worth that much effort. Hell it’ll probably be more enjoyable on a normal TV.
@@gamingblowsofficial As a Virtual Boy owner I can attest to that. Playing on the console for more than a few minutes is torture.
Red Sack!
This and the Stop-Frame Animation episodes are so creatively awesome dude, good freaking job, I'm loving this.
Seeing the brief glimpse of the Master System game is like opening a window in a stifflingly hot room to feel the breeze and being handed a cool drink. And being let out of prison. But then the Virtual Boy returns. It was only a dream.
14 bucks? No way!! Also, love the effects on the eyes. 😂😂
M..my eyes! They burn! Awesome review though, thank you for the eye reprieve. 💜
The skit at the end was particularly hilarious this time. Love these videos dude
I never had headaches with it. I had two games for it. Wario Land and V-Tetris. What I did was lay on my bed in a pitch black room. No problems. I played V-Tetris for 6 hours once.
Watching this under my covers. Can't wait to see green all day tomorrow.
This episode has funniest post episode skit I've ever seen! keep up the awesome work Joe, Super uderrated channel as always 👏.
Whoa, didn't expect to hear Might & Magic get name dropped in this one. Damn, to see a Game Sack about Might & Magic would be so cool. Cool video though, the Virtual Boy always seemed like a really wacky handheld. The sketches in-between games also were pretty funny (and scary)
Apparently the Virtual Boy didn't actual cause headaches or eye strain, but Yokoi was forced to put all of the preemptive stuff into the system just on the off chance that someone DID have a problem so that they could avoid legal issues.
[insert witty "sack" joke asserting my excitement for new Game Sack upload]
The hype is real.
The sack came in the face via Virtual Reality!
Time to get an eyeful of SACK
>first five seconds of watching the intro
"AAAH MY EYES!"
Joe! Great job with the bleedin' eye fx! Independently moving eyeballs are your best entertainment value.
And this episode has the best "suspension of suspension of disbelief" skit to date!
That "welcome to spaceworld" sounds like the Classic Game Room guy.
What was innovative about the Virtual Boy, and my favorite feature, was the portability of the system. On long bus rides I would just get completely lost in its worlds and end up having to walk home from another state. I miss the 1970's.
What are yountalking about? The virtual boy wasn't even released back then! This revolutionary piece of hardware was released in 2007, idiot!
Jared Connell what was playing in 1952 then?
@The Deadpool Who Chuckles. Human beans should be kept in a fuckin can.
@@JaredConnell Is it?
@@sloppynyuszi Black Buttcrack Tales in the drive-in theatre. This was before the invention of the question mark of course.
Ah yeas Jack Bros., the best Megami Tensei game ever. Sad it's on Virtual Boy though.
"This game is actually related to Persona..." Oh boy, you've triggered the MegaTen fandom.
Could totally hear the thousands of voices in terror. 🤔They are an odd bunch, not going to lie. SMT is not your typical series either.
I'm a Megaten fan. I admit I laugh hard on that.
not to be that person ,but it's just a matter of recognition and history of the MegaTen franchise as a whole for the gaming community and public ,each series has its own merits,I am a fan of both, persona 5 is my personal favorite of the generation and SMTV my most anticipated game as of now,but the fact that Persona is the most popular and smt is in its shadow it's sadly a matter of fact,so as a fan of both I just wish for more balance in exposure and recognition by the public audience nothing else, but at least by being massively popular persona it's a great introduction to the MegaTen franchise for a lot of said new audience ,so it's role is still pivotal nonetheless
@@lorenzopliskin1384 I grew up with it as well. It is a very different series to connect with. A different mindset from other series, and still even after all this time. The Megaten multiverse, is intriguing. Even though they are separate journey's, things do cross over.
But the dedication some have, uh I can't comment because I'm not like those folks.
@@kadosho02 yes of course it's thanks to the wonderful artistical collective at ATLUS and the likes of Hashino,Okada,Kaneko,Doi and Meguro, to name just a few ,that both series were created and of course share a lot of similiraties from a gameplay and scenario perspective, also it's very funny not only drawing parallelism between them but even trying to create a shared timeline of events just for the fun and sake of it XD,it's thanks to Atlus trying new approaches to the core of the megaten series that persona was born,IF being its prototype, and maybe with project Re Fantasy we'll see a brand new type of jrpg that hopefully will be even more successful for Atlus
The whole video, you have the virtual boy on the stand backwards. You’re supposed to look inside the VB with the legs sticking out away from you, and that way you can adjust the angle of the unit to point the VB headset down more so you don’t have to bend your neck in that uncomfortable manner
True! I played wrong until this year! But even Nintendo is confused about. Did you see the Nintendo Labo video?
Loved the Craig Statler reference.
It's amazing you could get 40 minutes out of this.
He is running out of stuff. Everything has been revised to death.
I love the Virtual Boy so there better not be much slander in this.

"Rainbow Road has never looked so colorful." Well, I can't argue with that. Awesome review!
Tht joe eyes creeps me out!
I can't watch the Waterworld segment without remembering what AVGN said. "Waterworld. On Virtual Boy. It's like puking on a pile of shit!" He also said he reviewed the entire library, and it turns out he didn't. He only reviewed the games released in North America, none of the Japan exclusive ones. This video really does have the entire library.
Dude. Your videos are awesome. They're so well put together and the content is genuinely informative as well as being hilarious at times. Your post-credit scenes are the bomb! In my opinion, you're one of the best(if not THE best)retro game/Hardware reviewers out there. Thanks for the quality work!
You should go back and check out Mode C on V-Tetris! It's a totally different game that uses the depth of VB to let you use the entire tetris well in front of and behind the screen for a "360 degree tetris" experience - no other Tetris has done it since!
Damn it!! I adjusted my TV set's tint controls when your show came up all red.. Now I gotta go adjust it.. I think my vertical shift is off now too.. Arrrrrrgh!
On a lighter note.. Awesome show. I love the Virtual Boy. I was just playing Jack Bros. Last night.
@The Deadpool Who Chuckles. Haha! We had an Uncle Jack (my dad, and him, were bros), neither ever played a Virtual Boy.
Rent Jack Bros for a dollar? If I had a time machine to do that, I'd just buy it new for $40 at Toys R Us or Electronics Boutique.
Or play the lottery instead.
Really nice FX and reviews. That's why GameSack the best retro channel ever.
Red & Black intro, 💯 legit!
Hope you got chance to play the almost complete version of Bound High with bosses etc - Its one of my faves on the system - Wasn't aware of the proto you showcased there. I always thought only one version leaked. Happy to be wrong if there is more Bound High goodness out there.
Planet Virtual Boy for all your VB needs etc....
VB on Switch/3DS I would pay good money to see.....
Another awesome vid. All the best!
I can't believe this thing exist when I was born but cool color intro, I like it
Red Alarm was my go-to game for the Virtual Boy. Set the view to the cockpit view and it was immensely fun. Killer soundtrack, too. I wish I still had mine but I sold it to a collector dude a while back...
I wish you could get these consolized systems ready to go. Some of these games look pretty awesome.
Joe, you've always been the guy I related to & thought of as the frontman of the show because I learned so much from your dissertation on the Sega-16 website about the different video connections their hardware is capable of. But a Virtual Boy episode? This is the first time since Dave's departure that I super miss his dissenting Nintendo fanboy voice contrasting yours.
Joe has flipped to become a Big N fan boy, and no one has heard from the exasperated gamer in a while (Dave)
One of Nintendo's biggest regrets.
These guys make some of the greatest CZcams video game content. Just amazing stuff.
Been watching your channel for years. Not really into subs, but you're one of the few ill do it for. Just now subscribed and "hit the bell". Strongly thinking about joining as well just because you deserve WAY more views. Your production quality is incredible and I love the humor. Thanks for all of the great videos Joe.
