  • In this video from The CTAD Clinic, Dr Mike Lloyd (Clinic Director) begins the series on how to choose a therapist to treat dissocation. Folllowing an overview, Mike looks first at psychiatrists, as they are highly likely to feature in a lot of healthcare settings where diagnosis of dissociation is made.

    Would really appreciate a video on red flags with therapists, behaviours and things that they should not be doing, and what clients should be most aware of.

      It took almost 3 years for us to discover that a lot of what our therapist was doing wasn’t ok and we really wish that we had known beforehand.

      This video was very informative. It would be good to have a video after you introduce the different type of practitioners outlining how a team of different skilled practitioners might work together (psychologists for diagnosis, xyz for abc, etc).

    Thanks Dr Mike! I was wondering what your opinion is on "Internal Family Systems Therapy "? Perhaps you can include a discussion of it in one of your future videos. Also, I would love an update on the clinic ducks. How are they doing? Any new chicks?🦆🐣💛

    Great video! Also can you cover how important it is to connect your psychologist, therapist and physician. It's really helps with the process if the 3 work together.😊

    Thank you Dr Mike this service is exactly what I’m looking for now as I seem to be running out of NHS psychology in the next couple of weeks. Although “something is being put in place” as there is not enough money in the pot to refer individuals for specialist treatment. Unfortunately I’m not clear what’s going to be offered for working through trauma or how long it’s going to take to set up County wide. having worked for the NHS for 35 years I’m rather sceptical at claims by private practitioners.
    I look forward to your next video. 🌻🌻🌻🌻

    How do you feel about IFS for dissociative disorders?
    Love this channel ❤

    • @DollfieMew
      @DollfieMew Před 2 měsíci +1

      I would like to know this too. I did some IFS work with a therapist for a while. While it was greatly helpful I do believe there was one problem. The "center" I was taught to become for my other parts seemed to have just caused a new alter to be created. A very centered motherly type. I was under the impression this was a skill I was learning. That this part of myself was going to grow. I told my therapist that as I was trying to be centered...I would become dizzy and feel like I was going to pass out. She said that was weird. But we continued on and I just kept doing it even though I would feel feint. Curious how IFS works on people with DID?

    • @thectadclinic
      @thectadclinic  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I don’t use it, but a lot of it seems to be what we have been doing for years in DID anyway!

    • @alouqua5
      @alouqua5 Před 2 měsíci +1

      As someone with DID who also does a lot of IFS work, I can say it's helpful in creating a base of connection and compassion with other parts of ourselves. however the theory of it is too simplistic and not always as easy as they present it for non-DID people (for example us having Dissociative barriers means we can't always communicate with other parts) my Psychologist is more flexible and trained in other modalities so he adapts IFS to us specifically. I think I would personally still recommend it with the right person

    • @MissBehavedBHT
      @MissBehavedBHT Před 2 měsíci

      @@alouqua5 I agree. I’m pretty new to it and I use the skills/tools that I feel work for me and the other in the system and disregard things the system rejects.

    Its funny, because in the US Psychiatrists tend to be entirely focused on medication. I have yet to find one that does any sort of therapy.

    My current situation is that i am on an NHS waiting list but my assessment appointment keeps moving. Last i was told was beginning of last month which has not happened, again. I have issues trusting them as i have dealt with them previously and had an assessment but never heard anything else. When i finally enquired what was happening i was basically told i had been dismissed for what turned out to be the behaviour of someone they mistook as me. I am quite concerned also of being misdiagnosed. Seriously thinking of going private now.... My question i suppose would be whether it is worth taking the NHS route, as they really do not seem very capable of doing anything at all let alone doing it right? Perhaps someone else in the comments has been through the NHS and can let me know if it is a good idea?

      @CensorshipIsOpression Před 2 měsíci +2

      Oh that is.. Terrifying.
      I can give a little input, but it may not be useful because you're in a different country and things may be different, I will however say that your concerns are completely valid.
      I've been misdiagnosed in the past and it scarred me for life, I wouldn't wish it upon an enemy, I ended up moving to another place where I was taken more seriously.
      If you find yourself getting misdiagnosed, insist that they write down their reasoning for your diagnosis so that you can easily prove that you need a second opinion due to early assumptions, flawed/biased opinions and not fact, reasoning for excessive medication with zero therapeutic value and only for compliance, make sure that even little details such as how many sessions you've had is documented, and also trap them legally in case of malpractice.
      Also insist that they write down everything that they deny giving you treatment for and why, same thing, it's for your protection. That way it's much easier to point out that a doctor or psychiatrist is being malicious and not acting in your best interest.
      Unfortunately people who just want power and control exist and exploit careers that give it to them, and will often project their own problems onto you, so it's important to protect yourself.
      You should especially be concerned about an early diagnosis that should take many months, like, if you get into an argument or your concerns are dismissed and invalidated and then suddenly you're wrongly diagnosed with a very stigmatized mental disorder that changes the way other health professionals treat you, and also labeled as combative, in denial or similar, and things that have never even been brought up appear in your journal, that is considered to be character assassination in most countries.
      Do you have social workers who can function as a spokesperson where you live? I did this and was taken more seriously having a witness and a spokesperson at the same time.

    • @thectadclinic
      @thectadclinic  Před 2 měsíci +1

      The keyboards s knowing what you are being assessed for. If you have gone through screening for dissociation (DES, for example), the person assessing should have the skills to recognise and interpret dissociative symptoms. If they don’t, how will they know what is going on?

    • @toastedfallenstar584
      @toastedfallenstar584 Před 2 měsíci

      @@thectadclinic I have a diagnosis so far of personality disorder and seem to be in the generic personality disorder pile. They keep signposting me to things that are no use to me. I have told the doctor all about it but am by no means confident i am really being taken seriously.
      I know what is going on roughly, i recognise most of the parts and can even see why they would be there and how some would have been created. I understand it all to a point but cannot control anything. So it is not like i am saying to them i have no idea what is happening.
