    I don't know what your dealer has for a procedure BEFORE you take possession of equipment. My Kubota dealer would not send out my new tractor until I came in and did a walk around of mine. The Technician had a clipboard and I confirmed all fluid levels, grease points, and all options I wanted were installed. I was proactive and pre bought all fluids and filters as recommended by the service department so I was ready to service my tractor. When my tractor did arrive the delivery driver apologized but store policy was to go over the tractor again to check all fluids before I could sign confirming delivery. I am not saying Kubota Corporate is perfect, but this sounds like a dealer issue.

    Mine was dry too, from the dealership at 50 hours. I wouldn't worry about the metal colar at the first oil change, as long as there's no chunks

    The silver color is fine metal that could be somewhat normal as the bearings "seat". If metal debris large enough to be considered small flakes is found then you probably have some premature wear, if so I would keep an eye on the seals. My dad's L series had a bearing burst and the first indication was the seals leaking from the metal debris wearing on them.

    I had a very similar situation!! I was at your original video, a few minutes ago, regarding your dry front axle and my eyes opened wide and I went straight to my tractor and checked the oil level. I have 172 hours on the tractor. Well, there was oil but it was barely touching the bottom of the dip stick. Hmm, I will top it up tomorrow morning. Good thing I didn’t wait until the 400 hour mark in accordance with the manual to check and change the front axle oil. More importantly, thank you for bringing up this very important issue!! I’m going to hope all is well with the front axle as there was oil even though it was super low. Thanks again for the heads up.

    When I saw your first video, I checked mine with 40 Hrs. I couldn’t reach any oil with my finger. I took about a quart to fill up. Complained to my dealer and they said evidently the factory is to letting the oil distribute throughout the axel by running it and checking the oil and adding. They must be filling without running the tractor to let it distribute throughout the axel. I’m pretty pissed too!

    I had the same experience with my BX2380. No oil in the front axel. I bought a new PD10 post hole digger and found no oil in the gear head. Kubota and the dealerships are being cheap relying on the customer to do it. This is my first tractor so I'm on a steep learning curve. For the price you pay for the machines Kubota should do a lot better.

    I'm glad you caught it in the early stages and hopefully the new oil change will clean up any problems.
    It's a darn shame though that Kubota and the dealerships aren't doing the things they need to do that will protect their reputation and business.
    Just wondering out loud if the dealerships thought the factory did it OR the dealership just dropped the ball?
    Everyone seems to have some skin in the game for lack of communication.

    FYI the bevel drive gears in the front axle need to seat/ wear in to mesh properly. There will be some oil born metal particulates. 60 hours is so low I would strain the used oil to check for larger metal pieces.

I also had larger metallic pieces< 3 to be exact, looked like casting flash. due to portal design, 400 hour for first change seems to be too far out. all the crap goes to the bottom. will take sample at 50 hours of the shell oil, will not use UDT in front axle again

    Of course I wouldn't be happy either, but I have a feeling you're going to be ok. As you said, tolerances are not near as tight as an engine. Because it's a tractor and not a vehicle driven on the freeway at higher rpms, and only 68 hours, I have a feeling you're fine. If it were 68 hours of 60mph I'd be more worried, but 68 hrs at 5mph tops and being industrial grade axle, re fill and send it. At least had some oil in there at the bottom to keep things wet and some of that oil was slinging too. The gray shiney matter could possibly even be normal break in material. All bearings and gears will shed a bit when new til they find their happy place.

  • @travismeering1493
    @travismeering1493 Před 3 lety +1

    I took mine to the dealer which mine was low as well with like 48 hours on the tractor... they pulled the plugs and there was fluid in just no nearly enough and there was some metal in it which they said is normal for brand new parts getting the edges worn off... they put over two quarts of gear lube in mine to get it on the stick and they were suprised... it was an issue they didn’t know about they’re supposed to come from the factory full and the first service for the front axle isn’t until 200 hours

    Not a mechanic here. You said it was obvious what the problem was. Does metallic mean grinding/shavings from the axel? I have Kubota L39 and haven’t checked it yet.

    • @SunnySlopeHomestead
      @SunnySlopeHomestead  Před 3 lety

      So the metal is a yes and no answer as if it’s bad or good. Break end oil and look this way and the Mets seen is from gears warring together. Now this should only happen one then it should be seen again. If this was engine oil I’d be scared lol

  • @KH-be3qz

    Not so bad, axle oil from cars can look similar I would suggest sticking with the kubota oil though just because it's possible the seals will react with 8090 or anything else other than what kubota used. Not saying that is definite but in my experience it's easier than trying to figure out if it is the case. What might be worth doing here is disconnect the front drive shaft and with the wheels off try and turn each side and see how it feels. If it seems like it's grinding like a coffee grinder I'd be concerned or if clunks so loud someone near you might hear it I'd also worry about it. Otherwise it's probably okay

  • @crxess
    @crxess Před rokem +1

    I've been a mechanic most of my life and stopped panicking over light metal detection in(NEW) assemblies Long ago. Oil or no oil, new parts wear in and shed a micro layer off their surface. Yours was Low to start with so you didn't get all of that out initially. Much of it was stuck alone the upper part of the housing. Filling it to proper levels allow the parts and walls to rinse themselves and stir the liquid. Then you were able to drain it away.
    Think about the number of revolutions you are actually turning in 400 hours. Nothing compared to a car or Work Truck.
    * You would likely do far more damage misusing the 4WD feature, even with the oil level correct.(Don't ask how I know)
    Many engines/Transmissions have magnetic drain plugs - ever wonder why?

    Here's what I learned when I changed my front axle oil at 50 hours... Drain both sides of the axle and have both breather plugs removed. My mistake was putting the breather plugs back in before filling up. I figured having the fill open would be enough. It's not. Keep breather plugs UNINSTALLED until you fill axle back up. I used 80w90 as well. My opinion is kubota should make the dealer replace your axle. That's bullshit and not your fault.
