  • STRANDED in the kelp. Stranded in the bay. Broke motor. Well, in search of yellowtail and big calico bass. Yellowtail fishing was funky. Bass fishing was starting pop off. Boat motor was not happy. Finally got it loaded onto the trailer at hours of stressing. This is Fishing.Thank you for the Support!

    You've had some bad luck with batteries my friend. But those batteries shouldn't be causing that sputtering issue. @13:00 it sounded like its turning over pretty strong, just not firing. Seems more like a fuel\ignition problem.

    Sorry for th erough day, thanks for posting! Just a quick thought, I know with our old antique cars when things are not running quite right or have trouble idling, the first thing we do is check all the ground connections!! A lot of times if you have a bad ground it could seem like a timing issue, carbs, or even bad gas!! This is a simple and inexpensive thing to do to rule out, before you take it to a mechanic especially boats with all the corrosion, you would be surprised how many times that was the case!! Good Luck Lee Smith

    This happened to me in the big bay. I was drifting toward the rocks quick. I got it started as I was calling for tow and limped back to shelter Island. It turned out to be a fuel line. Easy fix, but that drifting into rocks feeling isn't good!🤙

  • @trinitymaker5833
    @trinitymaker5833 Před 4 lety +1

    Definitely sounds like a fuel line. When fuel lines start to degrade, they get soft and pliable, and they collapse on themselves. When you give the motor throttle, the engine creates a vacuum and it draws the fuel from the gas tank. The more throttle you give, the stronger the vacuum. That's why it wants to die the faster you go. I'm not saying that's what it is for sure, but symptomatically that's what it sounds like. Fuel hoses have multiple layers. So although on the exterior it looks intact, the interior portion may have separated and pulled away, and it's collapsing on itself. The battery has zero to do with it. Especially once you turn the motor over. The battery is essentially unnecessary once the engine turns over. That's why when you were saying that you think there's something wrong with the battery because the motor was struggling, I said to myself, "Think again my friend....." But for the love of everything holy, renew your membership with Sea Tow or Vessel Assist.
    But I agree with everyone when it comes to the part where you said, "I'm going to throw out the anchor.", and you ACTUALLY threw out the anchor. I started CRACKING UP! Thanks for posting this video. Most fishing channels only show the highlights of the trip- not the defeating moments.

    Well at least you are adding to the structure of MB with the addition of the anchor. I was stressed for you just watching it. My kid and I had a similar experience in MB. It turned out to be water in the fuel from a cracked tank. the starter cranked and cranked but no fire. Got home drained the fuel, added fresh fuel and started right up.

    • @WARBAITS
      @WARBAITS  Před 4 lety +1

      I’m thinking fuel or fuel filter. Boat goes in soon. How did you drain the tank?

    • @63MercComet
      @63MercComet Před 4 lety

      If there is water in the fuel tank it will separate if you are standing still or barely moving. Fuel at the top water at the bottom. In our case we stopped to fish the Bahia Belle spot and slowly idled around. The engine sucked up water from the bottom of the tank and wouldn’t start back up. You should be able to stick a hose in the tank and siphon out the water. Then fresh fuel. Hopefully that will do the trick. Probably change the filter as well. Good luck.

    @ericsphoto Před 4 lety +1

    Batteries only last 4-5 years, throw another $200 into that hole in the water. Also check fuel lines, the ethanol wreaks havoc, rots them out from the inside. Sounds like fuel issue.

    Dude the same exact thing happened to me with my 2 stroke 115 Johnson. It died out at sea and after waiting and fishing for 3 hours it started up again. We punched it back and it died again right before the dock. I ended up swimming it the last 500 yards or so with my two friends on the boat laughing the whole time. I pretty sure we had to replace the carburetor

    What a horrible day bro.
    I was at lake Murray Last week and I rented a boat. I went to cast the anchor and the same thing happened to me.

      I know this is an old comment, but I found 2 anchors at Murray last week since it’s so low! I’ve got backups!

    It looks to me like your fuel has too much water mixed in with it. Also your fuel/water filter is probably saturated with water. I put my boat in reverse to shake off the kelp stringers. Works well.

    That drone shot of the kelp was sick though!! Looks real healthy down there.

    We had the same thing happen to us. Dead, drifting right through the thick of that kelp. But, some of the best calico fishing I’ve ever had in that thick stuff. Then my buddy coughed up a fortune to get towed back. Still, great content, glad you made it back in one piece.
