- There's a lot to say about this SRPG with mixed reviews, that will soon become either a hidden gem or a forgotten game. A review code was provided by Square-Enix USA.

If you reload your clear save data you get updated epilogue snippets for a lot of the cast. It explains what was really going on with certain units like the sniper girl, Isca, etc. Based on your comments at the end of the video I'm not sure you went to the library with your clear data to look at that.
Did you stumble across that or was there an indication that you ought to do such a thing after you complete the game?
I was on the ropes to play this one but you've convinced me to given it a try. I love how your reviews are always so raw. You tell how you really feel about the good and the bad.
I just discovered your channel yesterday, good stuff!
Great game I finished it on the switch. Enjoyed it a lot.
Another nice review, Landon! Too bad I am not able to play recent games, but it is pretty good watching your reviews when they come up.
Great intro to the genre and very rare with the pause mechanic. Story is excellent and well told, characters are generally well fleshed out. Looks good and it is worth some replays.
You need to play the game in new game plus and enter the library and check the updated character info, you will learn what happened to some characters like Isca and why rias did what he did
I absolutely adore this game!! Nice review and even nicer to see you enjoyed it as much as I did.
There's a content update on March 2023
Looks Good
Sounds Good
Has a Good Story
Has Side Quests that are worth doing
What more did I need to know?
It’s a Buy!
The only problem that I can think of is the ending with the bad guys winning.
@@leslieandrews9208 Finally something different, i don't see any problems here.
The game is too short for this kind of genre I think
it doesn't have a good story at all.
And the rug pull ending was very well done, It was one of those endings that you don't see coming and those are the most impactful.
Love this game, reviewed it a month ago. Glad there is a DLC expansion coming in March 2023 my birthday month too lol. The ending really shocked me and a sequel needs to happen ASAP!
It looks pretty Interesting I think, you get a decent amount of party members also, and the graphics, and art style look good, and I like the idea of short non repetitive missions, thanx for the rundown.
I had Umarida one-shotting every normal enemies in the end game (and she's below the enemies' level) so I am very happy that a free update for higher difficulty, and Waltaquin's scenario got announced. Probably that Waltaquin's scenario is a hook for a sequel that will release immediately after.
Love your "We need to talk about" series
Don’t get why he doesn’t just call them “reviews.” I almost skip over them if I don’t remind myself what they are.
Yeah the steam reviews underline the biggest problem with real-time-with-pause games.
It's impossible to find a single difficulty that works for everyone.
Most games in this genre is 99% Tank-n-Spank. At most enemies get more stats and you need to min-max more. So the standard way to simulate "difficulty" is to make early game hard since you can't min-max enough, but the game turns into easy mode after you min-max, but since you had to spend the effort to min-max, you feel that the easy end-game is because you're just good (cuz you min-max your party well!), so you don't fault the game for being too easy later on.
Though as soon as you take that way, like making it so that tanks can't just stand there and absorb damage for a long time, or healers can't just spam heal and have to rely on predictive damage-prevention rather than just "press heal when health bar is low." The difficulty just skyrocket and suddenly only 0.001% of the players can play it without rage quitting.
lol Andrias has such FABULOUS hair in his avatar lol
I played a tiny bit of the demo on Switch and I thought it was pretty cool, but now I want to play it more. I just wish the character models looked more like the art.
I bought Bravely Default 2, Triangle Strategy, Tactics Ogre and started none yet, what do I do I buy this one as well. my backlog will be decades long.
What I hoped for in Tactics Orge Reborn and Fire Emblem Engage I actually got in Diofield Chronicles. Definitely get it if you are on the fence.
Subscribed due to the guitar behind you and of course the Star Ocean content
Glad to see someone give this game some love everywhere else this game gets trashed on.
Thankfully they just announced a free update with more story scenes
Can u do an updated review... is it now a masterpeice?
I remember my previous reply and actually want to get back on it. Bought the game for "only" €4,99 when I couldn't get my hands on Unicorn Overlord (should've bought Aegis Rim, but I mixed them up). The gameplay starts really slow but grows on you. You can do many skills and can customise just enough to make it fun while not getting overcomplicated. The story is great and a somewhat strange but still satisfying end. Took me over 100 hours to beat. I have no clue how that happened. It actually surprised me a lot. Sure I grinded some, but that much? Maybe because I am a slow reader and did all (side)quest. Much better than I first anticipated. Hidden gem for sure. For anyone who wonders, framerate on Switch is great and didn't drop a lot in combat. Some pop ins during scenes but all games have those, right. Solid 8/10 to me.
Loved your review, I got this game and loved the story it was a shocker at the end.
good to hear it's a AA masterpiece. got me more hyped to finally unwrap it and play it come March, with the new content update.
I really enjoyed this game. My gripe was that I wanted more. I understand that it didn't get a huge budget and did what they could with what they had. But without spoiling anything there are some real interesting stories and characters in this game. I would love for a follow up game or DLC for some of the great characters in here.
Others are saying that there's an update with new difficulties and story scenes coming up soon.
@@RettySpaghetti oh, traded mine in already. But the story didn't grab me and the missions just became "defeat everything"
It was very good....nowadays though I feel like these games are beaten so quick....we need more content lol should've included like some post game story where you could go higher levels and it becomes harder....love this game
I think the reason why you really like it is because it's like your favorite video game series
They just announced a new DLC coming next year for the game with a new story scenario for Waltaquin and other stuff coming with it.
Loved this game so much fun
Game looks awesome, and review is great. Appreciate it, I'll check it out.
This game surprised me as well, it's one of the few games still currently installed on my ps5 :D
I just had my first baby and the short mission and mission layout was very appreciated
It is a good game. Hope it sold well for a sequel.
Thxx soo much i will buy right now
This guy has convinced me. I'll try it
so what happen to the new game+ is ther any other story?
No power of frienship = no buy.
JK, I'm enjoying this on my Steam Deck.
Love the gushing here 😍
Digging the White Pony shirt!
People are trashing this game online. Good to hear a different perspective
Hey. I bought it for switch too. How was performance all the way through?
it's fine, i think the game looks good but drops frames when a bunch of stuff is going on on the field
Great game I thought. Shades of Growlanser in the gameplay. I’m having a blast so far.
This is a great series.
it's not a series
Did you stop putting your intro music that we mostly skip?
Also. Octopath 2 coming out next year 😱👌🏼. Anyways. Gracias for your amazing videos I always look forward for your content.
This, Tactic Ogre Reborn and Triangle Strategy... Strategic heaven! But how does one have time to play them all hmmmmmm What's the best one in your/comments opinion on Switch?
Honestly I looked at the trailer, gameplay and review, and although it looks interesting and something I will enjoy , I just think that it's too Short for the price tag they are asking. I'll wait for a sale.
tbh I missed the guitar riff intro on this one, lol
Triangle Strategy meets Xenoblade!? I’m a little on the fence about this weird battle system.. I’m more comfortable with the traditional turned based SRPG.. But I still may tackle it one of these days..
A game that made you do the side quests??? Hell hath frozen over 😁😁😁😁🌴🌴
is it that good? Because most reviews said it sucks. Gotta try it then, when it'll be on sale
Sounds like there might be dlc coming soon
wow a code from square enix?? How you did that erick xD
You write books? What kind? Where can I get them?
You definitely don’t want to read them…i tried, it does not flow well at all.
I hate games with bad endings, BUT the gameplay is awesome and it's on sale for 40I, I can EASILY but this game 😎
Japanese RTS innit
Amigo! I been waiting for a video from you to come out 😆. Bro can you do a video on the next Final Fantasy (16)that’s going to come out?
Wasn't a big fan of this game, but glad you enjoyed it
If Square Enix doesnt give you more review codes after this, I don't know what will.
The steam reviews for this game have been brutal..but it does look interesting.
the demo was awesome. I am really looking forward to this game.
Maybe the console versions are better.
The game is okay but is missing a lot
The battle system was ok but the rest of the game just felt very poor to me. Wasn't convinced by the demo
Since the coming update is happening, the sheer lack of appropriate difficulty looks to be rebalanced.
It's another one of those Times New Roman underline AI generated names RPG for the switch.
i have 52 hours in this fame, still didnt complete it yet, did the main and side quest, a very small time repeating side quest dor lvl, is anyone really finish this on 25 hours?
I'm impressed that you said the game was balanced in normal. I really hope you are right. Everybody else has been saying that it's way too easy even on hard mode, and this is what's stopping me from buying it.
It's still easy on hard for most players but they just announced a free DLC that adds a very hard mode. That should satisfy what you're looking for when it's out.
It is really easy on hard mode that I had to playing because it was ruining the fun... Lucky for me I just started it last week, so I can wait for the patch in March!
I only bought it because it’s on sale at Best Buy
If there’s one things jrpg fans will flex about is beating all the side quest in a game lol
Game was waaaay to easy even on hard, would of loved to see a higher mode.
Please make for the valkyrie elysium
The final boss in Star Ocean: The Divine Force was also disappointing, it didn't feel like I'm fighting the final boss. The fight was also underwhelming
This game is one of those "easy to pick up, but hard to master" strategy titles.
cant do strategy rpgs, makes my brain go brrrr
I didn't miss it, just doesn't look appealing to me. First impressions are important. Diofield didn't deliver that for me and many other. The way your telling about it, showing gameplay doesn't change it a bit. Gets snowed under with the other great Switch RPGs.
This game is $40 on gamestop right now. It went down $20.
combat looks like FF12
It's an average game. Still I enjoyed it. Wait for a sale people.
It's a nice game, but the limited amount of units taken into battle really made the game pass by way too quick. On these newer systems? They should have bigger battles, larger story, more tactics. Ect. The game is super short as is. Not worth the full AAA price. I feel like SquareEnix just pushed this out with, Star Ocean, and Valkyrie Profile for quick cash. None of them were worth it to be honest...... They didn't want any of these coming out next year to take away from FF16. I was severely disappointed with all three games. The only one I didn't get a refund on was Valkyrie Profile due to it having Valkyrie Profile Lenneth re-released. Square Enix gave these games very limited budget. It sucks too.... Square killed off these games without giving them more of a chance at a sequel. That bothers me most.... I am a huge Tri-Ace Fan. The company that makes Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile. Two games that competed with Square"Soft" back in the day. Square acts like it holds a grudge against them still the way these games were treated. Oh and they also released Tactics Ogre which was also direct competition with Square and later why they created Final Fantasy Tactics. Square hired a amazing director that created the Tactics Ogre game. Then bought rights from Atlus. The company that made the Ogre battle series. Square seems to be treating that brand better since they have most of the original team working for them still, but I hope.... that if they continue the Ogre Battle series with this Re-Release of Tactics Ogre? They show it far more respect that what they did to Star Ocean, Valkyrie Profile and Dio Field.
Extremely easy with dumb enemy AI.
Very repetitive.. once you build your main team you will never have to swap party member or abilities, just spam the same 4 moves over and over and over from mid game to the end to crush everything with ease.
Good idea for a game but it lack A LOT of polish.
5/10 wait for a 50% off.
I wanted to love this game, but I hated the story. The only interesting person I liked leaves the party halfway through. My bigger problem with the story was it being too realistic in terms of making EVERYONE an a-hole.
Spoiler warning.
Ending: surprise, the main character is an a-hole too....roll credits.
The whole story made all the fighting pointless.
is it autoplay android thing ? 🤣
Unfortunately, the game is just way way way too easy. Very poorly designed combat flow that gives the player way too much inherent advantage.
This time going to have to whole heartly disagree. The concept and idea of the game was good but the execution was terrible.
The game is astonishgly easy even on hard.
The story kinda of a mess but they portrait like all mature and serious when it just dont make sense.
Characters have little going on for them , most are copy paste of each other so there is no real reason to use all of them specially with only 4 units on the field at any time.
The game was quite a big disappointment for me.
I hope they learn from this experience in case there is ever a sequel because i did like the idea a lot.
Bought it day 1 and finished in around 20h. Game is a letdown, and in many respects - an unmitigated disaster. Story is bland, so are characters. Most important things are happening in between missions - and are only loosely mentioned. Gameplay is fine, but simplistic and repetitive. Avoid this title - get it only at deep discount.
And since it's your money (that most likely be wasted) - do your own research. You can either believe some youtubers opinions, or check Steam - where Diofield currently sits on 44% positive reviews. This is really some feat to get there for a niche trpg - but it shows that people, who like me - bought game - are mostly disappointed with end result.
This felt to much like an Arcade Game. The complete a level and back to base aspect is lazy imo. I would have prefered they did it the Western RPG way. Your group goes to to an enemy stronghold, and kill a boss, you don't get whisked back to base. YOu are still in the stronghold, and you have to either fight your way out or whatever. For $60 we have ourselves an XBOX Live Arcade Game. You are FAR to forgiving, the whole point of playing an RPG is to become immersed in the world. There is NO immersion, ever single town looks exactly the same, all of the enemies are just braindead automatons. It would be nice if we had an RPG that after you destroy a enemy base, you perhaps come upon items or letters owned by the enemy soldiers, possibly one of the soldiers getting ready for a marriage coming up, or find a letter from one of the soldiers daughter to her father. We are talking about an "adult" story after all.
Missions were boring and every mission is the same with a bit of variety in requirement. It's an all-in-all very boring game.
I'll just say this was one of the most boring games I've played ever with repeating soundtrack, weak repeating enemies and irritating story that put you to sleep which is a shame considering the lovely art, even the end didnt feel satisfying just like mgs v
I don't really understand where you're coming from here but to me, this game is mediocre at best and gets boring and repetetive after just a four hours in. You'd be better off replaying any Fire Emblem game imo.
This game sucks sorry I wanted to like it
Why You don't talk about Lost eidolons? Is a better Game and is indie and have very good reviews, this one is a meeeeh...
So much positivity about recent mediocre games, normally you are more critical about rpg's.
Shit didn’t look good. Saw the announcement and knew it wouldn’t be good just based on Square publishing garbage games like these
fingers crossed for dlc
That game is mediocre.
Story was average, Gameplay on Hard was too easy..., 1 time play and move on!
The story was above average, in my opinion.
I really liked the gameplay and the story. I was leveling up everyone and it's plenty of characters to choose from.
Story was actually pretty awesome. Definitely looking forward to replaying it if they add a harder difficulty.
I don't know if you have played fire emblem three houses but this game is a really bad clone of that. I played the first five or six chapters and really didn't like the gameplay. Maybe i didn't give it enough time to "get good". In comparison i thought triangle strategy had a significantly better story than this game. Honestly this is a bad mobile game that they took away gacha features and charged full price for.
This game looks solid but what ruined it for me is the combat. Something about strategy RPG combat just bores me to tears but I can make exceptions when its well done. This combat system was just dull imo. I couldn't get past it.
Skip every cut scene and get back to grinding and Battling. writing in video games has been shit for at least 15 years straight.
