  • BIG STUDIO RESULTS! This was the first time we did a pretty big assignment without my faithful Photogenic PowerLights and Softboxes in the SUV as emergency back up.
After doing half a dozen location portraits using speedlights with great results, we had the faith to leave the big studio gear in the studio.
Of course, we had our camera with spare bodies and lenses etc., extra remote triggers, light stands and an appropriate background. We had less than 8' x10' of floor space and two hours to ultimately produce 28 portraits.
Included in our Godox set-up, we have their accessory barn doors and grid spots as well as a 24x24 Godox pop-up soft box. Because of the limited space, we should have brought a tiny light stand for my background light. (It's resting on a chair.) We've since acquired one to add to our remote kit.
Because this event was covered by myself and assistant Curtis, we only had opportunities to shoot some footage before, and later, as we did post work. For an eight minute video, I think it still gives a valuable look at how we do these jobs.

Ah…. the large Larson soft box, nothing beats the flattering light it produces….I wish I can find one in good shape.

As always informative and clear video Tim thank you, we too use just Godox (2 AD200 and 2 t685) on location, including weddings and brand , never had a problem with them! So much do they are not our preferred light in the Studio too as the sync speed is much faster!

Always brilliant material thank you Tim, do you tend to work on a 2to 1 ratio rather than 3/1? Thank you.

I think you can! Here's an old video of me doing a similar gig. (with big gear, of course)
